It still wasn't my favorite but I'm glad I got the story and the closure with some of the earlier plot lines. Jasmine isn't my favorite character in previous books she was selfish and immature. Lucky for us we got to understand her better and her behavior is greatly improved from what we've seen in the past. It doesn't change her bad behavior but we understand it and can root for her. Adam was a great guy. I really liked him but he was a virtual stranger since he hadn't been in previous books in more than conversation. That continues in the early part of this book also. The early book is a bit slow but mostly necessary as to how Adam finds his way out of time and in the present. It was interesting but a little slow as most detailed plot set ups tend to be. The ending was good and gave us the necessary closure. Interested to read her Nightwalker World Series next. ...more

I don't know why it took me so long to get back to this series, but I'm glad I did. These stories are primarily urban fantasy with just enough romance to keep me interested. For those who aren't very interested in that don't be put off, Adams doesn't put the romance in the forefront. Our mystery and action remains the main objective and as far as romance goes this has to be the most adult characters I've read in a long time. When there are more important things going on no one lets the relationship stuff get in the way. There are a lot of things that happen in this story and things keep getting more complicated and not showing any signs of slowing down in poor Celia's life. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next....more

It's what keeps me coming back for more, but it has been a very long time since Ward has written a story that I didn't find myself wanting to skip sections.
As far as the main romance I love Blay and Qhuinn and I'm without a doubt pleased that Ward decided to give them there own full story. They deserved it. The parts of the story with them and about them were the parts I really enjoyed. Although since we have seen them at odds in one since or another over their relationship, lack of relationship, and friendship I would have liked to see them have some more happy moments in the story. They were at their most content in this story when they were well having sex. Because of their history, miscommunications, and lack of communication things were more in turmoil the rest of the time. Both of these guys were guarded and afraid and it kept walls between them a lot. But that was their story and we got to see these two come through all that with a HEA and I'm glad of that.
As far as the rest of the story goes. We have a few moments in the POV of the new Lesser. I'm still not overly impressed being in those guys heads. Never have been a fan of cookie cutter bad guys. It's just boring. World domination and doing all manner of bad things to achieve it. No areas of grey no real character. That has always been the lesser MO and it's nothing new. This one wasn't as bad as some of the past POVs, but still ahh I don't really care for the Lesser POV.
Xcor our newest bad guy leader is much more what I like. His is a much more complicated issue. Don't really like him because of course he is the Brotherhoods enemy. But I can't completely hate the man either. I think he has a complicated history and it is so much better getting his POV than the Lessers. I do want him and Layla to have a HEA at some point, but I think it will be a hard won HEA. Romeo and Juliet opposite sides is a classic.
Our other big storyline was from the man who took over Rhev's place on the drug market. Assail has something going on with some new assassin Sol and there section isn't so bad either. I'm sure they will have an interesting story. I find Assail and Sol both interesting and wouldn't mind reading about them.
The negative for me and it really hurt this story is while there are all these interesting POVs and I think I could like a lot of these characters for me they had no place in the middle of Qhuinn and Blay's love story. It didn't fit and it just felt shoved in there to try and force us to get to know new characters. I like to think better of Ward than to try and force new story lines in order to continue the series. Even more so because I find several of these characters interesting and would want to read their stories, but not in the middle of this book or for their books to contain tons of story lines that don't move the main story along. I'm not sure I've ever seen so many wasted words in my life and I read a lot. I hate to love and hate a story so much. I once heard a very good author say that if it can be taken out of a story it probably shouldn't be in the story and the whole time I read this story I kept thinking of that. There were over a hundred of pages that could have easily not been in this book. ...more
