It's been quite some time since i read anything that doesn't fall in the category YA, paranormal romance or urban fantasy so this book was a much needed break!Stuart manages to grab you from the first page into her world and you just can't put down this book until the last page! From the first chapters you get sucked into a world of mystery, action, violence and betrayal so well written that it's almost impossible to stop reading!
Bastien is your typical alpha male and even better. He is ruthless, manipulative and doesn't feel guilt or remorse for any of his actions, but despite that he manages to be sexy and have a sensitivity hidden really good behind a mask of total indifference.Compining all those elements you get an amazing male hero, perfect for the setting of this book.Chloe on the other hand was just ok for me...There were times where i really liked her character and others where i just couldn't stand her stubborness and found her reactions a bit inconsistent...But maybe that's just me,i'm always weird in some things!
All in all,it was a really good book that anyone who reads romantic suspence should try reading.I know for sure that after Black Ice i will definitely try other books by the same author
I had really high hopes for Princess Avenger by Bernadette Rowley. I may haven't read any reviews about this book prior to me picking it up but still,I had really high hopes for Princess Avenger by Bernadette Rowley. I may haven't read any reviews about this book prior to me picking it up but still, from the premise I was certain that I had an amazing story in my hands. And although in some departments, Princess Avenger delivered what the premise promised, in others, it didn't fair so well I'm afraid.
For the first 1/3 of the story, Princess Avenger was everything I was expecting it to be. There was an intricate world building, a strong and independent heroine and a very mysterious and sexy hero. I mean, everything at the beginning was indicating a fresh and unique story, having all those elements I'm searching for. But before I even reached the middle of the story, my initial thoughts about Princess Avenger started to change rapidly. I found myself tired and a little bit bored, so I had to put it down, read another book and then continue with it. I don't usually do this. When I start a book I either put it aside or finish it. I rarely pick up again a book that I stopped reading. But I had to give it another try because like I said, at the beginning I really liked it. And my three star rating reflects mostly that part and the fact that even if I couldn't connect with the story, Bernadette Rowley's writing style is pretty good.
My main problem with the book was with the world building. It was rather ambitious, but Princess Avenger never delivered in that area. It's mostly a fantasy novel with a focus on romance and let's face it, the beginning and end of a fantasy novel is the world building. At least for me. But unfortunately in this story the world building is loose and vague. Details are never given about how exactly the world ticks or what is going on. The whole plot is based on the fact that the reader takes everything described as given and never asks any why's or how's. And that is a major failure for me. Maybe the fact that Princess Avenger wasn't really that long a book, explains why the world building was a little bit vague. But still, I just can't take everything for granted.
The other problem is that Princess Avenger is primarily a romance and then a fantasy novel. And I have nothing against that, if and only if, the romantic plot isn't explored against the basic plot of the whole story. And sadly, that was the case with Princess Avenger. After a point, everything was focused on the romance between Alecia and Vard and everything other was lost. Never explored. The whole book was about them and all the other interesting things happening at the same time where just completely brushed off. There wasn't a balance. And still, if the romance was good, I may still not be having that many problems, but their romance was also sort of lukewarm. Maybe because both Alecia and Vard (especially Vard) felt so distant. As for the rest of the characters, they might as well haven't been there. There was no character development or there was, but a minimum one.
All in all, Princess Avenger was a rather ambitious attempt that I'm pretty certain that it could have been so much better. There was potential in there. But unfortunately, it failed to impress me and catch my interest. ...more
OMG!I really didn't expect to like this book so much!Surely Morganville Vampires is a series with a certain hype but i didn't know what to expect of this book, plus,i didn't read any reviews before reading it which turned out to be a really good thing!Having not read i single review i avoided any even minor spoilers and that made me like this book even more because of the many unexpected turns in the plot. Most of the things weren't obvious and i found myself constantly turning the pages to see what happened next.
I liked every single character in this book.Though Claire is the main heroine, all of the surrounding characters are fairly good developed,at least as much as a first POV narration allows.I loved both Shane and Michael so much that at points i couldn't decide who was sexier...Claire is a fantastic character. She is smart, she's self dependent and she doesn't think that everything evolves around her.Granted, she's insecure at times, but who teenager isn't?
And i really enjoyed the sence of companionship this book has.It has been some time since i encountered a company where everyone really cares about each other.
The plot of this book is really good and engaging. It's full of action but not really overstreched scenes where the reader is tired or bored.Rachel Caine knows exactly where to end one scene end begin a new one.The romance is seizling although not the main focus of the story, something i also liked very much.My only complaint is the ending...I understand the need of a cliffhanger ending but not when it's done so obviously deliberatelly. The last chapter felt like it belonged to the next book or that it needed a few more lines at least.Fortunately,i immediatelly started the next book and my impression was that the last chapter was in fact the first one in the next book.I don't know ifi t's just me (and believe me i do like cliffhangers) but i felt that the ending was abrupt just to leave you wondering...
To sum it up,Morganville Vampires is a series any YA fiction fan should read. It's fresh, full of surprises and an utterly engaging read!...more

The plot was all over the place and nothing like the suspenseful erotica title I was expecting. The element of suspence was unfortunately put on hold in favor of as many sex scenes as one could read and then some more. The result was a story whose sex scenes I mostly skipped because there's a limit to how many different ways the main couple can have sex before I get bored out of my mind. Such a pity because this one sounded like a story right up my alley if there was a balance between the sex scenes and the rest of the story....more

Forbidden Magic was an utter disappointment for me I'm afraid... I have seen the mixed reviews on Goodreads, but still I thought that I should give it a try. After all, the premise sounded more than intriguing and Cheyenne McCray is a big name out there.
So, I picked it up, only to be quite certain from the very first chapters that I wouldn't like it. I just had that feeling and I knew that no matter how hard I tried, I wouldn't be able to get into this book. And I'm sad to say, that my opinion of Forbidden Magic didn't change as I kept reading. Somewhere after the middle of the book I just started reading this on the fast forward. I just skipped the various and informative sex scenes and just read whatever grabbed my attention. As it is, I don't think I missed much...
The first thing I noticed were the incredibly cheesy names... I could maybe go with Hawk (the hero has wings...) and Silver (the heroine's hair are blond) but Moondust??? Please! But the cheese doesn't stop there... The problem with Forbidden Magic is that is far too cheesy and far too predictable for me to enjoy it... There's immediate lust and even if the sex part between Hawk and Silver arrives a little bit later than what I expected, Hawk's constant hard on as soon as he laid eyes on Silver and Silver's tightening womb caused every single time Hawk moved, irked me to no end... And since I'm talking about cheesy, I can hardly refrain myself from mentioning that incredible scene were Silver and Hawk perform the ritual to call more D' Danann warriors through a perfectly nice blowjob! Nothing more powerful than that guys!
Anyway, Forbidden Magic leans more on the erotica side with paranormal elements than a paranormal romance story. There's too much sex, a bit meaningless at times, and those scenes where Junga, one of the demons, has sex in various positions and with various partners were completely unnecessary. There were at least three scenes where that Junga chick explores the submissive side of her human body and why should I care?
The plot like I said is cheesy and predictable, the character development barely there and even though the writing style is good, I'm afraid it couldn't save the whole book for me.
All in all, Forbidden Magic has received so many mixed reviews for a reason. Sadly, I find myself with those reviewers that didn't like it although I think that it's more a matter of preference. For some people to love it, it must have some qualities that I failed to notice.
