The second instalment in this series didn't disappoint. Actually I think it was even better (just slightly though). I love the writing and the way the story flows. There is always something going on without it feeling rushed. And the characters are the type that you admire and would love to hang out with if they weren't always getting themselves into dangerous situations (especially Rafa).
And talk about a cliffhanger ending. I need the next book like yesterday.
Overall, I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars, it is just that good!(less)

Gateway is good. Really good. I enjoyed everything about this novel - the strong writing, the believable characters, the captivating plot and the subtle but sweet romance.
Garner has written an impressive debut. Her writing is quick and engaging and the plot has quite a few surprising twists. Like I completely didn't see that coming twists and I mean none of them. And that is a hard thing to find these days. I really got caught up in this enthralling and convincing world and finished it within 24 hours.
Gateway is not all paranormal. At the start of the book Ember wakes up in a hospital after an attempted suicide. So it does deal with some serious issues briefly adding some more emotional depth to the story but it isn't a depressing read. It is still more of action-packed, mysterious type of story.
The characters are well rounded and well written. Ember, the main character, struggles with being different. She has a genuine narrative making it easy to relate and connect with her. While Taren is an intriguing character. He is the type of guy that is the first one there if anybody needs anything. Just a great guy.
There is a touch of romance between Ember and Taren. They have plenty of tension that builds up nicely as the story goes. It definitely has you eagerly reading to see if these two will act on their attraction.
Overall, Gateway is a exceptional dark and appealing paranormal novel. I can't wait to read more of this world.(less)

"Adam seems to think you've declared yourself his. But, given his record of doing that without consulting you, I thought I'd ask you myself." I raised my hands in helpless surrender. "What can I say. My mother thinks he's hot. I have no choice but to take him. Besides, it's a terrible thing to see a man crawling... begging."
Love this book! This would have to be one of my all time favourite series. I could go on and on about how amazing Mercy, Adam, Samuel, Stefan, Ben, Warren and Jesse are. Or how it is full of action, suspense, humour and heart but I won't. I'll just say read this series. It is very addicting :) (less)

He had a big automatic in one hand - he must carry concealed because I hadn’t notice him holding one when opened the door. “Oh, I hope not,” I said in between gasps. “I don’t want to be eaten. I’ve been counting on the vampires to kill me first”.
I am in love with this series! It just keeps getting better and better. Action packed, witty, suspenseful and entertaining as usual but this one was also a lot more emotional. There was tears shed for Mercy. Beware there will be spoilers further down.
In this instalment a fae friend has called in a favour from Mercy, needing her keen sense of smell to help find a killer in the fae reservation. When Zee is charged with a brutal murder. Mercy finds herself looking for the truth alone. And of course in a lot more danger.
Also in this instalment Mercy finally makes a decision in regards to her romantic situation. I am very happy with her choice. I love the spark between Mercy and Adam. But I couldn’t believe Briggs ended the book in what looks like the beginning of a naughty scene. Thankfully I have the next book otherwise I would have had to race down to the bookstore immediately.
This book also made me cry with what happened to Mercy. Briggs wrote it well, not making it brutal and leaving out details but it was still heartbreaking. When Adam came in and ripped him to shreds and they way he cared for her afterwards made my crush on him even bigger.
Overall, AMAZING. I’m off to start on Bone Crossed immediately. I just can’t seem to get enough. A big thank you to my friends at Bookers who recommended this series! (less)

To me this is Urban Fantasy at it’s best. Clever writing, action packed plot, great characters, witty dialogue and subtle romance, Blood Bound has it all. This series is quickly becoming a favourite of mine.
In this second instalment Mercy’s vampire friend Stefan asked her for a favour. She is to be a witness in her coyote form while he delivers a message to a fellow vampire. But things turn out to be a dangerous bloodbath as the vampire has a demon possessing his soul. The vampires and the werewolves tell Mercy to stay out of it. But when the ones she cares about are in danger Mercy isn’t the kind of girl to sit on the sidelines and wait.
How can you not love Mercy? In this instalment she is the same kick ass character but I think we get to see a little more heart especially in the romance department. Of course the romance is moving along at a snail pace but it works well as they have great chemistry ensuring sparks are flying whenever Mercy is alone with either Adam or Samuel. The love triangle doesn‘t bother me like it does in some other books. I think because you can see why Mercy is confused. I so hope Mercy chooses Adam though ~crosses fingers and toes~.
Overall, this is a series you shouldn’t miss! (less)

Lately I have been reading just pretty much young adult books but I thought I give adult urban fantasy a go and I’m so glad I did. Moon Called was action packed, witty, suspenseful and addictive. When I finished it I wanted to run straight down to the bookstore and get the next one but unfortunately I had spent my weekly book budget.
The plot is fast moving although there is a lot of world building but that is to be expected in the first instalment of a series. I liked the world Briggs has created with werewolves, skin walkers, fae, vampires and magic.
I loved Mercy instantly. She is loyal, stubborn, smart, tough and has a lot of sass. Kind of the gal I wish I was. There is a bit of a love triangle happening even if there isn’t a lot of romance in this book. Adam is delicious, he is the alpha male of the pack, need I say more. While Samuel is Mercy first love and another dominant werewolf. I’m still not sure if I can trust him with Mercy's heart. As you can imagine two stubborn werewolves with there eye on the same mate makes for some funny scenes. They other secondary characters are a interesting and entertaining bunch with Zee, Stefan, Warren, Kyle Jesse and Bran.
Overall, I loved every minute of it and I need the rest of the series NOW!(less)

This Is Shyness is delightfully different. I have been thinking for days now, how I am going to review this totally unexpected, completely original but brilliant book.
First of all the world of Shyness is so unique. It is like the rest of world is normal and this one little suburb is covered in constant darkness and full of unexplainable things and not really anyone knows about it. At first I question the world a little bit but then I got pulled into the story thanks to Hall's remarkable writing and just went with it and focused on the adventure these two characters, named Wolfboy and Wildgril, where having.
Leanne Hall writing is simple but beautiful. It is not overly descriptive but you can imagine the world, the adventure and the characters emotions perfectly. The book is written from both Wolfboy and Wildgirl's points of views and flows from one to another effortless.
Wildgirl and Wolfboy are both edgy, charming and real characters. Both have issues that are avoiding. You can't help be drawn to these two and wish you were surrounded in darkness and there on the adventure with them. The romance in this book is very subtle, just the way I like it.
'I can't believe how funny she is. I've hit the jackpot here. If I was different person, if my life was less complicated, if I had more to offer her than just sadness, if I didn't feel so tired from the weight of the entire world pressing down on me, then this would be the moment I would try to kiss her.'
There is one little thing that may bother some readers about this book. At the end I was with left with a couple of little questions. It left me wondering if Hall going to write more on this world. If she did I would be lining up for it on release day. However just a warning if you like your books wrapped up perfectly with a bow on top this may annoy you.
Overall, This Is Shyness is refreshing read and outstanding debut. I can't wait to see what Hall has install for us next. (less)

I had high hopes for this book since I love Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampire series. Thankfully Ill Wind didn't disappoint. It was an action packed, witty and unique read that left me craving more.
Rachel Caine writing is never slow, the action starts from page 1 and doesn't stop. She also knows how to surprise you throwing in plenty of twists and turns that you never see coming. The character are interesting and instantly likeable. Joanne is an awesome character - strong, independent, witty and doesn't take any crap. She is easily going on my favourite female character shelf. And David he is a interesting character that left me wanting to know more. I kind of got a bit of a crush on him after the hot tub scene. I loved the romance in this book too, it wasn't the main focus and also was steamy without being smutty. The only problem I had was I found the weather talk a little bit confusing at first but as the book went on it got easier to understand.
Random Thought for my friends at Bookers: I'm not sure what year this book was published but in the story Joanne buys some velvet purple pants (I kid you not) and every time they mentioned (which was quite a lot) all I could think of was this http://images.buycostumes.com/mgen/me... thanks to Kim :)
Overall, I really enjoyed this first instalment and I now off to buy the rest.(less)
