I mean it was good and the plot was interesting and the ending was rather unique. I'm trying very hard to think of a way to talk about this without providing spoilers so I shall keep it basic and not go into detail. Okay I liked the beginning of the book, hearing all about Rome and the slave trade back then and all of that was super interesting and I loved it. I found though that the book did drag quite a bit. I also didn't really feel the chemistry amongst the love interests nor did I really understand the last few chapters. In a way this book frustrated me and confused me at parts and left me feeling a little disappointed. I also wish it had talked a little more about the other characters in the book even if they were just background characters, I would have liked to know what happened with them as, if I'm to be honest I kind of preferred hearing from them at parts than from the main characters themselves. I'm not saying this book is bad, it isn't, it's very interesting and unique and there were plenty of parts in it that I liked. It just wasn't, for me personally, that amazing and I sort of had to drag myself through it which I hate doing with a book. ...more

Story itself is great, it's really interesting to get a good historical insight into the role of women in those days amongst the Indians and the settlers as I feel that so many historical romances are not very accurate when it comes to the role of women and gives them a higher role than they really would have had. So to really read of just how frustrating and hard it was for women and just how little they were thought off compared to now was very interesting though I admit a bit sad. It's a lovely love story that doesn't shed away from historical accuracy in regards to how it was really like living in those times and the interactions and tense relationship between the Indians and the English. A very enjoyable read. ...more

I liked Nicole, she's strong, independent and head strong and she's not afraid to stand up for herself and take risks. Though at the same time there were moments when I wanted to shake her during her interactions with Derek.
As for Derek there were parts of the story were I really liked him and felt bad for him and all but then there were other moments were I just wanted to kick him in the balls and tell Nicole, screw him. In fact he frustrated me and angered me so much at certain parts that I felt that it ruined my enjoyment of the story. I understand that the author wanted to give him faults and make him one of those guys that get girls saying "I can change him!" but the way he acted in some of those scenes left me feeling like if I was Nicole, I'd leave him for someone else to save.
I don't want to go into detail about the bits I liked and disliked as I don't want to affect anyone's views when going into this story, I want them to keep an open mind because who knows, the things that infuriated me, other women or even men might find hot. I guess it all goes down to our own individual tastes and personalities but anyway other than that it is a well written story with great characters, (apart from one ass, but I think I've talked enough about Derek) and it is such a shame I ended up disliking one of the main characters as I have wanted to read this book for years and was so exciting to get into it when I finally purchased it. But I'm still going to give the other books in the series a chance, as who knows, I may like the characters in them a good bit more. ...more

It was such fun to read and the characters are so likable and there wasn't a moment when I wasn't smiling. There were even times when I outright laughed rather loudly at the mishaps that seem to befall our feisty heroine. :) A wonderful read that I highly recommend....more

I did notice a few noticeable spelling mistakes though which distracted me slightly while reading.
For the male lead, on one hand I dislike him, he seems rude, selfish and somewhat stuck up but on the other hand its clear he loves Emma and is doing what he thinks is best so for that I also like him. For the female lead, Emma, once again I found myself both liking and disliking her, on one hand she clingy, seems weak willed and is happy to turn a blind eye to things and let her husband sort it out, or the other hand though she’s funny and interesting and she totally shows she actually in fact does have a back bone in the ending so for that I like her and respect her.
I couldn’t help but find many similarities between this story and Fifty Shades but saying that, this story has its own uniqueness and some big plot twists that I was not expecting. Basically throughout the story I was thinking “I know how this is going to end” only for the ending to be the opposite of what I expected. I was gapping like a fish, shocked and amazed and I confess a few tears were shed. So with that said I don’t want to give too much away so I’m shutting up before I let something slip. All I’m going to say is read, it’s a bit like Fifty Shades but SO MUCH BETTER!!! ...more
