Not my thing.
The writing is good though, and the plot seems interesting, but with the mood I'm in at the moment, I don't think I could be objective enough to rate this as it deserves.

Perhaps I'll give it another go in the future, but for now, it's a DNF :-/(less)

I'm sad to say it kept my interest until Holmes appeared on-scene and then we got into a very long, very tedious history lesson, and from that point on, it just couldn't recapture my attention.
Very disappointing, because I'd heard such good things about this series, and I'm such a fan of the original Holmes.

While I liked the concept behind Nexi's past and quest for revenge, as well as the idea behind the whole hybrid guardian/witch thing, Nexi herself was... well... rather obnoxious.
Add to that the fact that I really didn't like the concept of soul sisters (and wanted to beat Haven senseless about, oh, 98% of the time she was on the page), Kayden was had more mood swings than a thirteen year old girl, and the chemistry that was supposed to be sizzling between the Kayden and Nexi fizzled more than sizzled for me, and I couldn't go on.
Recommended for fans of more lighthearted, quirky, urban fantasy.

I'd thought they'd be along the lines of the New Species series (which I admit, are my guilty pleasure), but the groundwork laid by this one has pretty much ensured I won't be reading any of these.
Within pages of meeting each other, the hero forces the heroine to strip naked, lay down on the bed ("expose your vagina to me" is NOT a sexy command in bed btw), ties her up, and then, despite the fact that she's been convinced he was going to rape her, and despite the fact that she was humiliated and terrified, she's all like "Oh hey, you're gonna go down on me? Cool! Let's do this!"
Then there was the being naked in front of a large group of people, and the very clear idea that the other cyborgs (whom I presume will be heroes in later books in the series) are all about sharing humans as property, making me very leery of future books.
Soooo not my thing.
This is a VERY solid case of Your Kink Is Not My Kink (But Your Kink Is Okay).

3/6/12 - I'm officially DNF'ing this. I don't know WHAT it is, but I can't seem to get into this one. It's not bad -- in fact, the writing is strong and the universe is interesting, and the characters are even pretty cool. I just can't. get. into it. :-/ Maybe it's the estranged lovers bit -- that's not really my thing most of the time, especially when the guy pretty much "pulled an New Moon" (that is, left the heroine abruptly "for her own good" without so much as discussing it with her first).
So anyway, I may ONE DAY come back to this, but truthfully, it won't be soon :-/
I'm not actually rating this one, because honestly, I'm giving up at 56% on Kindle.

While there's nothing absolutely horrible about it, there's nothing really that GREAT about it either.
While I ADORE the "abused heroine" trope, Caila gets the crap knocked out of her on a regular basis -- first smacked around by her father, then almost blown to bits, then some kind of weird kidnapping thing happens and... yeah, I gave up at that point, because that all happened in the first half. And of course we can't forget that she sold her house, sold her car (which was a souped up classic that she LOVED) and completely blew off the fact her elderly father beat the fire out of her, all so her brothers wouldn't have to pitch in when the family business was in crisis.
Blah. It's just too much for me right now.
I may pick it up again sometime in the future just to find out who's behind all the crap going on at the trucking company, but it will be a while. (less)

The premise was good, but there were too many main characters and frankly the "romance" felt forced. I may come back to it at a later date, as I would like to see what happens later on, but as it is, this one's going in my DNF pile for now. (less)
