It would be nice if Ms. Strong would expand the trilogy since the world she has developed is interesting and enjoyable. This is Domino Santori’s story. Domino has appeared in the other two books and he has made a name for himself in them. Domino has fought the change with all he is worth. He doesn’t want to change his carefree lifestyle. He is happy having a different woman in each town that he is hunting True Believers in. The Fates have other plans for him though.
Domino is the grandson of the fortuneteller in the carnival. While he believes in her powers of foresight he doesn’t want to believe in the reading that she gives him. He doesn’t want to be tied down with a kadine and never be able to be away from her side. He likes his freedom. This becomes a problem for him because he waits too long in going to his family for their help with the Transformation. That wait almost costs him his kadine when he needs to feed soon after the ordeal is over. I did like Domino and his willingness to accept Dakotah.
Dakotah Flemming has been running for so long and she is tired. She just wishes that she could find a hiding place and leave all her problems behind her. Most of her life has been one struggle after another. The carnival had become a haven of peace for her and she is loathed to give it up but the werewolves belonging to the man whose son she killed have caught up to her. She isn’t looking for a mate but her wolf knows when it has found that mate. The wolf does all it can to complete the bond between it and Domino’s wolf. It was enjoyable watching Dakotah learn to trust Domino and finally find a life that will make her happy and content and safe.
It is wonderful to see these two as they struggle against what fate as degreed as done. Neither wants to admit they are meant to be together. In many ways they are perfect for one another. There is chemistry between from the very beginning. While there are a few conflicts and the resolution of the death that has haunted Dakotah this is a love story. There is, as always with Ms. Strong, some really hot love scenes which melt the pages. This is a quick and enjoyable read that those that love the paranormal will Love. ...more

These tWe first met Fane Mercier and Cable Luske in Sarael's Reading. They were the men sent to guard Sarael until Matteo could arrive and claim her. These two have been lovers for the last two years and they have formed a deep attachment for each other. Unfortunately Fane is dhampir and he is close to the Transformation. One other problem that faces Fane and Cable is that Fane will need a kadine to help control his hunger and heat. The last problem is that Cable's family can't imagine a son of theirs being anything other than heterosexual. The addition of Kaziah would help Fane and Cable or that is a least what they both hope. This union isn’t unheard of in the vampire community of this reality it just hasn’t been done in a really long time. While these three are trying to work things out and stay ahead for Cable’s family there is also the threat of the True Believers.
Fane is all dominant alpha male before he transforms into a vampire. He knows what he wants and he is determined to get it when he finds out that it can be done. His dark handsome looks help pull Kiziah to him when he meets her. Fane's connection to Cable insures that she isn’t going to fight him much. There are steps that have to be gone through to transform a dhampire into a vampire and we get a more detailed idea of what that entails. There are also the details for taking a kadine and a companion. I liked Fane and would have loved to learn more about the relationship that forms around him. Fane is also very good with knives just as Matteo was very good with fire.
Cable is a padrall and he is in love with Fane. It is driving him crazy that he will soon lose the person that has come to mean so much to him. He never considered that there was a way to have Fane and the one thing that is missing in his relationship with the man. I didn't like Cable’s family at all. I didn't blame him for running from them when he had the chance. That family needs some serious counseling. It would have been nice to know if something could have been worked out so Cable could stay close to all of them. It is obvious that he loves his family even though they are all asses.
Kiziah is alone in the world. Her mother was killed by a drunk driver. Since that happen Kiziah has traveled around in an Airstream trail going for psychic fair to craft fair selling her dreamcatchers. She has the ability to since when she is near supernatural beings but she isn’t able to locate the specific individual. Kiziah is very open minded and that helps her accept that vampires exist and that Fane and Cable have been lovers. She has been lonely for a very long time but just hasn’t been able to pull herself out of the rut that she has dug herself into. It was very nice to read about her finding people that could make her happy and keep her safe.
I have enjoyed this trilogy so far and I am looking forward to the next book. This last book is going to be about Domino and I am glad that we will get to see him find a mate that he was not looking for. I was also very glad that Fane was able to avenge his parents and brothers. I dislike fanatics very much and to see one get the punishment he deserves is very satisfying. This is a quick and enjoyable read that fans of paranormal will probably enjoy. ...more

It is also unusual for an author to have two different realities for a paranormal race. Finally I loved the Carnival background of this series. This is a world few of us know or will ever experience. I have read about the carnies and I have seen them on TV but it is hard to understand their vagabond life style. I guess, like the Old West, the carnivals are a place for people to hide from their problems or heartbreak. There are those of the human race that need to remake themselves for whatever reason and a group that doesn’t question but just accepts is a godsend.
This is the beginning of a new series, trilogy, for Ms. Strong. These are all shorter stories and as so don’t have the detail that some of her other stories do. Ms. Strong does put in enough background so you can follow what is going on but there were a few questions that I am hoping will be answered in future books.
Matteo Cabrelli is a vampire, but not in the sense of horror movies or Count Dracula. His race is alien to this world. Like most of the vampires that I have read about over the years he is dominant and just a little arrogant and overbearing. He has waited for a long time for a mate and having to hunt for her has tested his patience, not that he had much of that in the first place. He is caring for Sarael for the most part. He does make a few mistakes but he tries to do better when he realizes what he has done. I like Matteo and I would have liked to read more about him.
Sarael Castillo has live with the Carnival since her mother brought her there when she was a small child. Her mother deserted her. A fortune teller raised Sarael after her mother left. In many ways Sarael is quite naïve and innocent. She is still a virgin and she has known no other life than the carnival. Being a carnie has given Sarael some street smarts but she is definitely ill prepared to handle someone like Matteo. She gives it a good try though and in doing so almost gets herself in more trouble than she can handle. This story is the perfect illustration of too little knowledge being a bad thing.
There are some interesting secondary characters that I would like to learn more about and there is a villain that gets what he deserves in the end. This is a suspense story though there are bad guys that could have made things very tense. This is just two people trying to find their way through a relationship that was started before Sarael was born. Ms. Strong has some steamy hot love scenes throughout the story, more than might have been necessary, not that I am complaining. It would have been nice to have Sarael explain to Matteo her fear of being bound. I think that would have alleviated some of the misunderstandings that caused problems in the beginning. There is some bondage and a flogging in the story but that is about a far as things go. This is a quick fun read that most paranormal fans should enjoy. ...more

I have usually built up such expectation of the character that no one can do them justice. Ms Sinclair was smart with her Masters of Shadowlands series when she wrote about Master Zachary in the first book. There have been several stories with Xavier in them and he is such a larger than life character. He is in the realm of others that lead a select group of alpha males, men like Tyler Winterman from Joey Hill’s Nature of Desire series, Matt Kensington from Joey Hill’s Knights of the Boardroom Series, Jonas Wyatt from Lora Leigh’s Breed series and Julian Lodge from Sophie Oak’s Texas Sirens series. There are, of course, many other examples of this type and we the reads love all of them. I am sure that an author finds it hard to live up to what the reader might think this special might be. I have never been disappointed in one of these stories but it still makes me anxious to have someone be less than I have seen him to be. I am very glad that was not the case in this instance.
Xavier is such a contradiction. In Dark Haven he is in control and all powerful. He is the one that everyone turns to in order to make things right are to make sure that punishment is handled with compassion and more than a little ruthlessness. In this story we find out that he is so much more. He is caring, loving and very intelligent. He handles, puppies, displace single mothers and abused mothers with the same caring and compassion that he shows in the club. I think that Abby sneaks up on him in a way he never expected. He is lonely in many ways and doesn't realize how much until he starts dealing with Abby on a regular basis. I love that he rescues horses and feed abandoned puppies. A warm spot developed each time he helped Abby overcome a problem or encourage her to get in touch with her feelings. By the end of the story Xavier had become another of my very favorite heroes.
Abigail Bern is a professor and is in need of paper to publish to save her job. She has broken up with her longtime boyfriend because he is a Dom and she thinks that she isn't. It is a remarkable journey for her to find out she is submissive for the right person. It isn't long before she realizes that she never really trusted her old flame and that she trust Xavier with her emotional and physical well being. Over the course of the story she comes to realize that she has let her father’s behavior effect how she deals with the people in her life. I like Abby from the beginning and I was glad that she got her happily ever after.
I will be up front and warn you to keep tissues handy as there are some very sad parts to this story. This is also one of those BDSM stories that is more intense than some people are comfortable with, this is Xavier we are talking about after all. There is exhibition, spanking, nudity, toys, bondage, anal sex and a very public and intense punishment scene. There is also some wonderfully hot sex scenes between these two. I am surprised my reader didn't melt. We get to see Logan, Becca, Virgil, Summer and Rona in this story. Becca hasn't had the baby yet. We are also introduced to the Dark Haven enforcer DeVries. I understand he has his own story. Overall I loved this story and for those that love Joey Hill and Sophie Oak you are going to love Cherise Sinclair and this book. ...more

As always these stories are too short. There never seems to be enough detail and they are often unsatisfying. There are authors that can pack a good deal of emotion and background into a novella to really make the reader feel like they have read a full length book. This story while well done is still short on something.
There is emotion in the story especially at the end but maybe it is that Grace Holcomb seems so mercenary. I understand in this time period marriages among the gentry were often arranged and had little to do with love but Grace is just so blind to the possibility. Most of this blindness is her father’s greed to have a titled gentleman as a son-in-law. Grace has been raised to be the wife of a titled man and that is all she knows. Unfortunately it takes the entire story for Grace to even question that she might want.
Barrett Adlaine is a self-made man. He has come up from very little and accumulated quite a fortune. He hasn’t considered needing a wife until he meets Grace. He has known her for most of her life but he is stuck with what a lovely woman she has become. It isn’t long before he is courting Grace and trying to win her heart.
There is only one very short love scene in this story and while steamy it was not very fulfilling. There is only one other character in the story worth wondering about and that is Sir William. I felt very bad for him when Grace rejected his suit. I hope that he finds his happy ending soon. ...more

Both are about woman that have had a very nasty childhood, orphaned or abandoned, living on the streets, one is rescued by a caring individual as a teenager and the other struggles into her twenties. Both stories are hard to read because I know that there are so many children that this happens to. It is sad that the government and society is more concerned about criminals in jail and prison then they are about children, senior citizens and animals.
In this story we find out about Rainie, one of the trainees at Shadowlands. She has had a very bad childhood and it has affected how so views herself. It does help that there are those that continue to bully her for her past. Rainie has put herself through school and has gotten an MBA. She is smart, compassionate, caring and loving. She is also one of the Shadowland brats. She doesn't really want a permanent relationship because she has been hurt in the past. She wants to wait until she has some more polish and can find a place where no one knows her past. She has avoided Jake Sheffield because she is so attracted to him. It is fun to watch her deal with Jake when he takes over her training to teach her to say no and mean it. This pair burns up the pages with chemistry between them.
Jake is a new Master at the Shadowlands and he has wanted Rainie for a long time. She is just what he is looking for in a submissive. Jake is just getting over a failed relationship and isn’t looking for anything permanent. Leave it to Master Z to take matters in his own hands and get the two together. Jake is a vet and an Army veteran. He is also partners with Saxon in a veterinarian practice in Tampa. When they have to fire their receptionist Jake asks Rainie to take her place. This is the perfect way for Jake and Rainie to really get to know each other. The sparks fly as these two become involved. It is sad the Rainie's confidence is shaken by a nasty mother of a groom and a bitch in heat. It takes Master Z stepping in again to get these two back where they should be.
This story also has Marcus and Gabi's and Vance, Galen and Sally’s wedding in it. I loved the scene where Rainie takes Galen’s mother and Gabi's mother to task for their nasty remarks before the wedding. I am glad the Ms. Sinclair included the wedding since it was beautiful and heartwarming affair. We also get the proposal for Cullen and Andrea. It was kind of funny and very sweet. I am glad that they finally able to get married. With Rainie taken there is only one trainee left and that is Uzuri. I hope that she finds someone soon.
It is a little sad that this book seems to be a prelude to ending the series. I know that not every series can go on forever but it is always sad when a great one comes to an end. Now I don’t know that the series is coming to an end. I haven’t seen anything from the author on this matter. I love this author’s writing and I always look forward to any new books she writes.
Finally the warnings I always give for this genre. There is some bondage, wax play, anal and spanking. This is a BDSM story so there is Domination and submission and all that entails. ...more
Just as I was beginning to despair that Dr. Thomas “Thom” Peters was going to drink himself to death he finally finds a reason to turn his life aroundJust as I was beginning to despair that Dr. Thomas “Thom” Peters was going to drink himself to death he finally finds a reason to turn his life around. It has been reading each book and seeing Dr. Peters slip farther into madness. I hadn't caught in the earlier books that Kitty Markham had a thing for Dr. Peters. I am very glad that it was Kitty and Devlin that rescued him and gave him a reason to dry out and start to live again.
Thom Peters has been living with the Peninsula War for ten years. Each day he has fallen father into the bottle and meaningless sex. The nightmares won’t go away not even when he exercises until his muscles are exhausted. It takes Kitty seeing him so worn and exhausted for her to take matters into her own hands. She makes Devlin go and bring Dr. Peters to her house so she can try to help him. Thom realizes that there are people that do really care about him and that Kitty has a soft spot for him. That is the turning point for Thom. He goes through withdrawal and works on getting his health back. Kitty and Devlin keep the nightmares at bay so Thom can start to get a full night sleep. It takes some weeks for Thom to get back on his feet and tries to go back to work. During those weeks he forms an attachment for both Kitty and Devlin. He cares deeply for both of them and when he realizes that Kitty wants a permanent menage he sets out to help her make it happen.
I have always had a fondness for the kind and compassionate doctor. He is one of those gentle but brilliant souls that make the very best doctors. Unfortunately having to decide over and over who was to live and who couldn't be save took a toll on him. Ms. Kane does a good job of showing what so many veterans go through on a daily basis. Thom never tries to commit suicide but he was slowing drinking himself to death. Thom is a good doctor and a good friend. He is intelligent, has a wonderfully dry sense of humor and isn't afraid to admit that he cares as much for Devlin as he does Kitty. Thom is also very brave and strong willed. There aren't many that can survive withdrawal from liquor or drugs. It pleased me to see him fight for his life and the life he wanted with Kitty and Devlin.
Devlin is a product of his environment. He was raised in the slums of London first as a prostitute, then a con and thief until finally he was the boss. I have to respect Devlin he has worked to be a better person and he cares for the people that work for him. He loves Kitty and will do anything to make her life better. However Devlin can be ruthless when he has to be. He is the one that is keeping the peace in the worst areas of London. Devlin is also the dominant partner in this triad. He likes taking control of Kitty and Thom, especially Thom.
Kitty we have met before. She is a friend for Kate Randal. Kitty took over the dress shop that Kate started. She has worked very hard to appear respectable and hard working. She is happy with her life for the most part it would be perfect if she could just get Thom to notice her. Kitty is strong willed, intelligent and very passionate. She is willing to do what needs to be done to get her way. She is also not afraid to take Sir Barnabas James to task when the mood takes her. Kitty is the glue that holds Devlin and Thom together. She is the one the two men will do anything to keep her happy.
I loved seeing Kitty go up against Sir Barnabas. He tries so hard to act put out over helping these three find happiness. I know under all that bluster is a lonely man that needs a pair of mates to keep him happy. I am hoping that Ms. Kane will find a story for Barnabas, Simon and Hastings. There was just something about Hasting that is screaming for a smart, mouthy woman to make his life much more interesting than it currently is.
This story is a m/m/f, m/m story so for those that don't enjoy this type of story please be warned. There is lots of sex in this story and it is as hot as we have come to expect from Samantha Kane. Even though I have waited for this story for a long time I was not disappointed when I finally got to read it. I love this series and I always look forward to a new one. ...more
This is the second half of Daniel and Harry’s story. The first half of the story is about Christy, Harry’s wife. She is pregnant and her father-in-lawThis is the second half of Daniel and Harry’s story. The first half of the story is about Christy, Harry’s wife. She is pregnant and her father-in-law and cousin are trying to kill her. She runs to Daniel hoping he will help her. Daniel of course tries to refuse her but a kidnapping attempt later and she is safely living with Daniel. Harry at this point has still not returned from America and no one has heard from him in sometime. Harry does finally arrive at Daniel’s door and starts a campaign to win Daniel again. Harry also wants to find a way to make Christy happy knowing that she wants to be a real wife and Mother.
This is another of those stories that it is hard to write a review about. It is very difficult to not give away a major plot device. Daniel has never stopped loving Harry but he just can’t forgive him for leaving. He wanted Harry to be safe and the only way to do that was for Harry to go back to England. Daniel just can’t seem to get past Harry leaving. There were times I wanted to shake Daniel until his teeth raddled. You can have Harry and keep him in a war zone. I know that Sir Barnabas James got rid of Harry hoping that Daniel would finally come to love him but Daniel never seems to realize this. Daniel does come around but heavens he makes everyone miserable while he makes up his mind.
Harry isn't completely free of blame in this relationship. He did just leave without much of a fight. I understand why he left his wife in England while he went to America. Harry was hoping to earn enough money so he wouldn't be dependent on his father’s money. This is something Daniel never realizes. Harry needed to be independent in order to live the life he wanted. Unfortunately that meant that he had to get married so he would money to strike out on his own and become independent. Also his time in America taught him how to take care of himself and those that he loved. I liked Harry’s persistence and patience. I also liked that he is a caring and compassionate man.
We are introduced to a new character in this story, Robert Manderlay. Robert is a boyhood friend of Daniel and a constable. Robert saves Christy from being kidnapped and he comes to care for her as the story moves along. I like him very much. He is a protector. I think that he will make Christy a very good husband.
I had thought that Simon might finally have found someone to love. He was very taken with Christy in the beginning but he just couldn't come up to scratch. We get a very small glimpse into why he doesn't want a relationship, but that glimpse is not enough to tell what happen to damage him so badly. I had hoped that he would form a menage relationship with Christy and Robert. Simon needs someone to show him that love can overcome so much.
Someone else that needs to find companion is Dr. Peters. I am glad that his story is next. The man is haunted by the war and someone needs to pull him out of his bad dreams before he drinks himself to death.
There are places in this story that read like a three stooges movie, if it can go wrong it will and sometimes with amusing results. There ae also some very sad places. Be warn that this is a m/m romance so that is what most of sexual encounters are. There is one scene between Simon and Christy. While there is a mention of bondage and Harry is definitely the dominant partner there is no other domination and submission in this story. ...more
