But, that said, it was an incredibly thrilling book, which is what I should expect from a good crime novel.
But like I said, beware: this book is not for the faint of heart nor for those easily prone to bad nightmares.

And some follow up thoughts. I read an article yesterday by a woman in Britian about not only this book but also books by James Patterson that graphically depict brutality towards women. This review summed up my beliefs and thoughts. I especially agreed with one statement in the article about how Larsson's book was interesting for the wrong reasons ... just another example of what Paul says so accurately ... for some strange reason we are drawn to darkness. Anyhow, here is the article:

Follett does an incredible job of bringing his characters to life and taking you along with them through the dramas of life. You feel the agony of defeat, the darkness that can overcome individuals, and the hope that can spring forth from unexpected people in unexpected ways. In fact, the only draw back might be that Follett is too dramatic with his twists and too graphic with his character flaws. Then again, for a story to be redemptive, it must first help us see the depravity of living.(less)

Whether you agree with Rob Bell or not, this book makes a compelling argument for how America has come to represent some of the biblical characteristics of Egypt and Rome.
Another great reason to read this book: it helps you understand the whole of Scripture by looking at the metanarrative, something for which Bell is especially gifted.(less)
