It is meant to be read daily although I cheated a bit and read quite a bit already. Prior to this, I’ve read several books and many stories about Catholic Saints so when I saw that this book was available to review on Blogging For Books I knew right away that I wanted to request it. This book makes for an easy to read daily look at people and events that helped shaped the Catholic Church in America. For example: Who knew that Catholic Missionaries had actually lived in Virginia 36 years before the English settled Jamestown? Not me and I was surprised to learn that and it so intrigued me that I researched a little more. That’s what reading this book has been like for me. It’s such an interesting collection of history and also helped me gain so much more understanding in regards to the sacrifices and the love for the Catholic Church. There are so many inspiring people and stories that are included in this book, some you may have heard of and many you probably haven’t.
I know that I'll enjoy this book for a long time and I'm doing my best to read it one day at a time like it was intended although sometimes I still cheat now and then and read ahead. What would I change about the book? The text throughout the book is rather plain but overall it's a wonderful book. ...more

The 4 year boy is named Colton Burpo and his story is pretty incredible. After his appendix has ruptured and infection has set in, and an emergency appendectomy is performed Colton has even more infection and requires more surgery. Some where along the way everything changes. He gets better and then this little child begins to talk about death and dying and Heaven. The story is intriguing and really made me wonder about what Heaven could be like. I began reading as somewhat of a skeptic and I'm still somewhere in the middle. The book was written well, the story sounds very convincing and believable because everything fits together. But it still seems very manufactured because of the subject matter. But then on the other hand, all the pieces seem to line up real well. The movie will be out on April 16th. This book is because it's the Special Movie Edition. In case you haven't heard, the movie Heaven is for real will be out on April 16th. I know a whole lot of people that will be going to see this movie and I may very well be among them. I wish I didn't have such mixed feelings about the book but in spite of that I still think it's interesting and worth reading....more

The writer has taken basic stories about Jesus birth and embellished them to create this thoughtful Christmas tale. Quite the colorful story teller, Scott Roloff has spun a delightful story that can be read out loud to small children or older children at this time of year and it will create wonder. There will be intent listening as questions will arise from time to time as this story becomes more questionable as each page turns. I'm glad I received this book from the author in exchange for a review because it has been an easy, fun reading for before bed....more

It is actually a much better book to me than the Chicken Soup books because it reads more believable to me. I read each story and felt a connection to each writer. Each story has it's own unique way of sharing a heartwarming message of something good even from the ashes.I enjoyed the variety and also the depth of the stories that are in this book. Every story in the book is interesting and quite readable, meaning that I started at the beginning of the book and read every single story from front to back. I don't do that very often with books such as this as every story doesn't usually appeal to me. This book was an exception. Well worth reading. I'm going to share my copy of this book as I know someone that will also enjoy reading this inspiring book....more

Abraham was actually the father of 3 of the most influential faiths; Judaism, Christianity and Islam. This is where and when the problems in the Middle East began and what has caused them to continue and escalate for thousands of years. After reading this book, the reader will come away with a deeper understanding of the history of the Middle East along with a broader sense of the current situation that we are facing in the world today. The last chapters in the book are very insightful, the Jewish perspective, the Islamic perspective and then the Christian perspective. I personally would suggest to the reader to highlight, take notes as you read so that you can really get the most of what you are reading. I didn’t have a whole lot of biblical knowledge and even so the book was very informative and easy to follow. There are also study notes for each chapter in the back. I also appreciated the glossary as it was quite helpful for me as I went along. The final thoughts and three burning questions are still going through my mind and I am still going over the timeline that Bryant Wright also included in the book. Prior to reading this book, my only knowledge of the Middle East situation was of the political type and this book has opened my eyes. Very glad I read this book! ...more

He talks about reaching out and helping the needy and he even has a chapter entitled "Don’t write anyone off” which hit something in me personally. This is a real good book to help someone that is in recovery work the 12 steps. Joe shares his experience, strength and hope with all those recovering from addictions, all who want to recover, and all who love them. This is an easy to read and simple to understand book. This is why I was drawn to the book. The style is easy to follow. I have only one complaint and it really nothing to do with Joe at all. My sponsor noticed that the book was not published by Hazelton which means it is not an AA approved book. I had no idea that there was a difference and now that I know I’m including that information here so you will know too.

It actually did not take very long to read and before writing this review I decided to reread it. The title of this book is in my opinion somewhat misleading. I just found the entire book to be too vague in many ways. Every one of the 72 ways could have been expanded on in one way or another but instead was reduced to a page or two. Also I wasn't able to find any information that was new. The cover of the book is appealing and the description on the back of the cover really pumps up the book with it's claims. Like this: You Can Recession-Proof Your Life and Get Your Life Back on the Right Track...Right Now!
After reading just a few chapters of this book, you will look to inform all your friends on the dynamics of how this book has changed your life.
As if that claim wasn't enough there's more:
Encourage Yourself While Facing Hardships Discover Money In Unlikely Places Make The Right Business Decisions Increase The Probability Of A successful Marriage Strengthen Your Resolve To Live Your Dreams
I honestly cannot recommend this book because to do so would not be right and would possibly be very misleading. I received this book from The Cadence Group in exchange for a review. You might also like:...more

The first 50 pages really pulled me into the book because I learned so many things about the Middle East both past and present. Ezekial had foretold of a time when Russia would align itself with Persia which is now called Iran and attack the nation of Israel. In the past 2500 years not one time has Russia formed a military connection with Iran. That is until recently when they signed a billion dollar deal to sell weapons and missiles to Iran. It is quite astonishing just to realize this undeniable connection from the Bible but there is so much more. I am so impressed by the way Dr. David Jeremiah was able to convey the basis for Islamic beliefs in simple terms even I could understand. This really is an answer book in every sense because it makes the reader connect in a clear manner to what Daniel and so many other prophets have told us about the last days. There is so much information in this little book that I honestly feel that anyone that reads it will learn something from it. Once I picked this book up there was no putting it down. I have read other books over the years that have had similar titles as this book but none as relevant to our present world today. Also I really like this book's size ( 4" by 6") which makes it easy to carry along in a purse or bag. ...more

I think it's perfect for keeping by the child's bed so that they can look through it before bedtime either by themselves or with a parent. I was tickled by the pictures throughout the book and I thought of my grandson and how he would enjoy them too. The book is similar to some that I have seen before for grownups, but this is the first I had seen one so simple and yet so wonderfully done. This book fits right in to a in manner to reach in the way a child would understand. Thomas Nelson Publishers have certainly done a great job with this! I even like the size of the book especially because it makes it more appealing and easy to pick up and read. My grandson will like this. God's Promises for Boys...more
