He meets Tara an event planner for one of his team parties and he is instantly intrigued. Tara isn't like any of the girls Mick has known she doesn't seem to care that he is a celebrity, and for the first time ever Mick is going to have to pursue a woman.
Tara is a single mother of a 15 year old boy Nathan, she made mistakes when she was younger and does everything she can to make sure her child has the perfect life that she never had. Tara is insanely devoted to her son and to her career, she's driven and nothing stands in her way until Mick. Mick won't let Tara push aside their chemistry he demands that she gives them a chance. But when they both start to develop real feelings for each other they don't know what they want. Mick as his career to think about and his agent is constantly telling him that Tara and her son are not good for his image and career. Tara is gun shy with love and she has to think about her son and her career because it won't just be her heart breaking if Mick leaves her.
I really enjoyed this book Mick was a great male lead. He was funny and determined and always honest about his feelings. He was a dream guy, a hot sports star who is down to earth and loves his family. How could Tara not love him? Mick's family was also great side characters his mom was so cute in her determination to have Mick be happy with someone. I'm intrigued to see what will happen between Mick and his sports agent Elizabeth in her book, because she did some reprehensible things to Mick and I wonder if she can ever make that up to him....more

Phoebe is extravagant and dresses proactively but that is all part of her desire to stay in control. If she controls how men perceive her than they can't overpower her. Phoebe is also gorgeous with a pin-up girl like figure she attracts attention where ever she goes.
When her father dies and his will stipulates that she must run his pro-football team for a year and if they don't win the AFC Conference Championship than the team passes on to her cousin Reed. Phoebe knows nothing of football but everyone tells there is no way for the Stars to win the championship she realizes that this was her fathers last way to try and control her. Phoebe knows nothing of football like her cousin Reed, and is basically thrown into the deep end on how to run things. With the help of the GM Ron she slowly starts to learn.
Dan the head coach of the Stars football team see's Phoebe as a blonde bimbo who is in charge of his team. He forces her to do her job after she initially resists, but finds that despite her personality and antics her can't keep his eyes off of her. Dan was a pro-football quarterback and now he is a young coach, he's a hothead and he desperately doesn't want his football team to be the laughing stock of the NFL. Slowly these two come to work together and turn the team around all the while fighting their mutual attraction.
Each of these characters have reasons to fight the relationship, and both of them are legitimate. These characters felt real and had depth to them that some other stories lack. Phoebe was an emotionally damaged person even if no-one ever saw it. She was constantly putting on a bright face and doing the best she can. I absolutely loved her relationship with the Stars players. I found them to be hilarious and I always looked forward to reading her interactions with them. This book was a fun read that had and ending I never would have expected. ...more

Her next assignment is a series on the young baseball team The Heat. She decides for her first segment she wants to interview Pace the star of the team, and the pitcher. Pace is the star of the team and everywhere he turns he hears people talking about how amazing he is, and how the team wins and looses games based solely on how he plays. He is under and extreme amount of pressure and to add to that he shoulder has been hurting him, but he refuses to allow it to slow him down. While Holly is doing her segments on the team she begins to grow close to the team and its management, this is a first for her because she is always working and moving around for her job. But when she and Pace start acting on their chemistry she thinks that maybe its time for her to start settling down. Pace is reluctant to trust Holly though because she is a reporter and he like Holly has trust issues. Holly and Pace's relationship is put to the test when injuries and drug scandals threaten to strain or break the trust in their relationship.
This book was an entertaining read. I read the second book in this series Slow Heat accidentally before I read this one and I liked the second one better. Holly was a like-able character at times but I also found her to be judgmental and hypocritical. She wanted Pace to trust her and not think of her as just a reporter but she didn't fully trust Pace either. Also I didn't like how she told Pace baseball was the only thing in his life, because her job is the only thing in her life. She only saw black and white scenarios where most people would see gray. Pace was a funny character, he had his faults but he worked to overcome them. Overall this was an enjoyable easy read, but if you want a baseball read I would read the second one....more

She wants to avoid pro athletes at all costs because she has been hurt by their egos before. But when she arrives at her school and sees how football is running everything she instantly takes a dislike to their coach and to add insult to injury he is a retired pro football player. Chris and Brett start off with an equally antagonistic relationship. Chris doesn't like Brett's sense of entitlement to all athletic funds and Brett doesn't like this new coach who is trying to take things away from his department and who seems to have no interest in him what-so-ever.
When they are both forced to work together to come up with new ideas for budgeting a large donation they both see their is more to the other one than meets the eye. Chris is hiding her past and her previous career from Brett. Brett is hiding some emotional hangups from his previous marriage and relationship. What starts off as light and casual quickly becomes more and each person doesn't know how to bring up what they have both omitted to say. But when Chris's past comes rushing up to catch up with her and leaves Brett with only parts of the story and thoroughly confused. Will he leave Chris because he doesn't know the full story and believes she is like his ex-wife. And will Christ be able to reconcile who she was with who she is now and tell Brett the whole truth.
Both must overcome their fears and emotional hangups if they wish for the relationship to work out. This was a great read and I really enjoyed it. Both characters were very likeable and both definitely had good reasons for their issues. The characters were believable and they really had to work to make the relationship work. I like it when everything isn't perfect, all good things take work and this relationship was great!...more

His team just competed for the Stanley Cup but all anyone can talk about is the big fight that two of his players engaged in when they confronted some of the players from the winning team. Both coaches decided that instead of suspension each of the players in the fight would go to a local neighborhood thats in need of help. Mark decides to take his players to his hometown where fire ravaged many of the homes. Mark and his players will help reconstruct homes and coach the summer recreational softball and baseball teams.
Rainy is the head coordinator for the recreation department of the youth program. She has been bugging her boss/friend for awhile to get her the coaches she needs for her teams. But when she sees that Mark is going to be helping out she immediately begins to panic. Mark, his brother, and Rainy all used to be good friends in their highschool days. Though Mark was a few years older Rainy always had a crush on him. But after a humiliating experience trying to demonstrate those feelings for Mark they were never friends again.
Rainy is still wildly attracted to Mark and Mark is now definitely returning the sentiment. But both want different things out of this relationship. Rainy wants a commitment and a lasting relationship while Mark takes things day to day. While they both can't fight their attraction to one another they also can't agree on what their relationship is and will be.
I always enjoy Jill Shalvis contemporary romance books. They are always light and romantic and always have an edge of humor in them. This story was no different. I really liked Mark but I wanted to slap him a few times and say wake up. Whenever he would start to admit that he was lying to himself about his life and his inability to have a relationship he would quickly overcome it and just continue on with I don't know what I want. Rainy was a great character with a large heart, I loved that guys kept asking her out in front of Mark. That was a continuing funny line for me. This was a very fun quick read and I look forward to anything else this author has to write....more
