Cat and Bones have had a rough time lately. With all the attacks on each other and their friends they've earned some R&R, which unfortunately they don't get. A ghoul figure head is causing all kinds of trouble for Cat and Bones, he's creating a war campaign against they vampires saying they wish to enslave all ghouls. He is also targeting Cat as saying she's not quite right and too powerful to let live. This isn't the first time this guy has stirred up hate and war against the vampires and this time he isn't going to settle for peace.
This book was a lot about character development and changes. Almost all the characters were starting a new phase in their lives. Cat is trying really hard to change and treat Bones like an equal and not do things behind his back anymore. She doesn't want anything to come between them. Things are also changing at her old job, new management, and some new recruits throw Cat way off balance. As always I love Vlad, he is my absolute favorite side character, he cracks me up and we got to see a lot of him in this book.
I can't wait/hope for his own story when he finds a love for himself. If/ when that happens I want Cat to give her the smack-down of if you hurt to emotionally fragile friend I will kill you. Vlad is an emotional friend for Cat, he doesn't know what to do with this true new friend that he would virtually do anything for. He's used to putting his people first, but finds that he will protect and help Cat at whatever cost. I LOVE HIM! Also we only got a little of Ian in this book, but as usually he had a real zinger one liner. I really enjoyed this book, it had me laughing and crying and I can't wait to see what happens next.(less)

The Book picks off directly where we left off in the last book with Mac in a state of extreme grief when her protector beast dies. You find out who that beast was right away, but I'm not going to give it away. I'm going to give the vaguest overview of the book because I really don't want to spoil anything. Mac then sets off on a journey to get the book at whatever cost so that she can make a new world where everything will be perfect for her. Loves one will still be there, and people she loves can have a better life.
One of the big questions that was raised in this book was what is Mac. She is not like all the other sidhe-seers, and now others are telling her the woman she thought was her mother Isla actually only had one daughter Alina. No one knows where Mac came from and she's starting to get a sneaking suspicion she might not be entirely good. There was lots of decisions for Mac to make in this book, she finally finds out who killed her sister but it isn't entirely a black and white situation. She wants to find the book to help those she loves but with quite a few prophecies over her head saying that she might destroy the world she is fearful of trying.
My favorite part of the book though was when we learned more about Barron's and the men he is with. We finally get the long awaited answers to them, though there are still some things I would like to know. Especially about his men they are all so different and they will not hesitate to kill Mac when everything is over because she knows too much. We also get a conclusion to the love triangle, I loved who was chosen and how it happened it was everything I had waited for. I absolutely loved this book it was an amazing finale to a series, and brought almost everything to a great ending. But who knows maybe one day we will get more of Mac which I would love because the end of the book says the end...for now!(less)

Ted from the Order has been black balling Kate and saying that she messed up the operation with Erra and was to blame for people dying. Andrea walks back into Kate's life after being gone and we find out where she has been and what she has been doing (FYI she took Kate's dog, I did not like this). But Andrea is back now and Kate forgives her almost immediately.
Kate and Andrea receive a job from a person in one of the previous books. They are to relocate an inventor and his project that was stolen. This beginning was pretty slow to me. It took awhile to get into just because there were so many questions that needed to be solved, there was no real sense of urgency. But when Kate and Andrea figure out what exactly was stolen and what it could do, they must retrieve it before it is turned on or many lives will be taken, including those of Kate and her friends.
This book held the same old Kate, whom I love. She had plenty of snark and jokes which are always amusing. But also in this book we more learn about Kate's family and her past. Her mother is brought up and Kate learns more about her and Voron, not all of it good. Another also makes her question Curran and what exactly his motives for mating with her were/are. Curran was also awesome. I was afraid that now that they are finally together things would fizzle and we would loose that Kate and Curran spark. But they did not everything is the same between them (still are snarky and like to tease each other) but now they just play for the fun of it. I can't wait to read the next installment in this series because by the end of the last page you will know what Kate is facing next!(less)

But when this Dominae decides she wants to make a deal with the Queen of the Fairies and the mages everything gets thrown out of whack. When Sabina arrives to the Fairy hold out where all mages are currently resided she is snubbed by the Queen and told she can not enter and listen to the negotiations with the Dominae. I have got to say I really wished Sabina would go old school Sabina and punch her in the face at the end of the book, The Queen was a real bitch.
Tanith (The Dominae) provides useful information in exchange for a peace treaty with the other two leaders, she plans to rule all vampires. She tells Sabina that her sister is in New Orleans, so Adam, Sabina, and Gighul head off to New Orleans. Throuhgout this part of the story while they are staying with a voodoo priestess friend of Rhea, Sabina grows emotionally. Her and Gighul have many hilarious heart to hearts. Sabina finally admits her fears of being with Adam as they continue to grow closer and acknowledge that this stand off isn't going to last much longer.
I Loved This Book. I thought it was amazing Sabina's growth as a character is amazing. She continually gets snubbed by the higher ups, but she takes it much more calmly than before. She really comes into her own in this book, and I can't wait to see what will happen in the next book. Because a new foe has been revealed and this one wants Sabina bad, and I can't wait to find out why!

Gin has been watching Mab's operations and learning more about Mab's businesses. Gin has been systematically taking out some of Mab's lower minions who have been hurting and terrorizing people. While on her next stakeout Gin see's that she is not the only assassin there. LaFleur who is an electrical elemental and is apparently very strong because she fries the man where he stands has been hired to take out the Spider.
Gin and Finn see that this drug stakeout was clearly a set up to lure the Spider out and have LaFleur kill her. So they go to Northern Aggression and decide to pay the bartender who told Finn the information a visit. While there Gin see's that the man is clearly in league with LaFleur but is terrified of her. But the man is clearly as tangled up in Mab's mess as Gin is because he was forced to do this or LaFleur would kill his daughter. So Gin with her new and improved vigilante streak decides that she will do everything she can to save the little girl. All while trying to not get herself as the Spider killed or discovered and also as Gin Blanco because LaFleur has added Gin Blanco and Detective Bria Coolidge to her kill list while in town.
In this book Gin grew a lot. We see so much more of her emotions than we did in the first book. I never found Gin to be cold but now she is nothing like the women she was. She is scared and confused about how much and how fast her feelings have grown for Owen in this short span of time. She doesn't know what to do with these feelings or how to express them because after what happened with Donovan Gin doesn't think she can take another hit like that. Also she is terrified of telling her sister that Gin the Spider is her sister. She doesn't know how Bria will respond and she's scared that she might lose the sister she just gained back.
As usual the supporting characters were great in this story. I love Jo Jo and Finn they are hilarious. We also got to see a little growth between Bria and Finn and I look forward to seeing where that goes. I thought that though this back had a lot of action and pushed the story of taking Mab down further, the most important part was Gin. We got to see Gin grow immensely and you can see the person that she will hopefully become. She has started helping people for more altruistic purposes instead of just for money or her benefit. Her "family" continuously adds members and she is learning to care for more people. I loved this book and can't wait to read the next book! I hope it's not the last.(less)

Sometimes he is so hard to read through Kate's eyes you wonder what he was thinking and now we know! He has a great sense of humor and he truly cares about Kate though sometimes he doesn't know why. I can't wait for more of his point of view!(less)
