I thought the concept of the book was good but when I started reading it it didn't really grab me. I liked the book and I read it but it wasn't a book that I couldn't put down either. This story is out Brynna a fallen angel who is now a demon, and she escapes from Hell so that she can try and be redeemed. When she gets to Earth she witnesses a murder of a nephillum and she learns that he isn't the first.
This book deals a lot with fate Brynna believes that every situation she is put in is because she is meant to be there for some reason. One of the things she believes she is supposed to do is to protect a young nephillum girl from this serial killer and also old demon enemies of hers. This book had a slight romance aspect with a Detective that Brynna met but she said that she can't really get involved with him because he can become addicted to her so I don't really know where that is going to go.
Overall this book was enjoyable and I will see where she goes with this series, but I didn't love this book. I can only hope that the sequel can expand and improve on the groundwork of this first book....more

She collects souls and ushers them to the "Door", where they can make the choice to cross over or they can remain on Earth for eternity as a ghost. Everything seems to change for her when a new tenant arrives to rent the apartment below her. Gabriel is gorgeous and with meeting him everything Maddy thought she knew is know thrown aside. She discovers magic/powers that she never knew she had before.
Gabriel also informs her of who her mysterious father is, and with this knowledge she learns of her status in an entirely foreign place. Her mother was murdered when she was thirteen and she has lived alone with her gargoyle Beezle. Maddy has a much bigger destiny than she ever expected and it is filled with new rules and policies that she doesn't understand or agree with. Because these new restrictions will limit her decisions about who she can be with, and what she can do because with her new status she is forced to follow these rules or she will be punished.
I enjoyed this book. Maddy was a likeable character, and she was very determined. I didn't care for how forbidden one aspect of Maddy's life was (you'll understand if you read it) I think it might have put to big of an obstacle in her path. I loved Maddy's interactions with Beezle, you could truly see how much they cared about each other and that they were each others family. I was also glad of the way those posed Maddy's father and that she was instantly forgiving him or making excuses for him just because he was her father, he left her and she never knew about him and she made sure he knew that. Maddy was a strong capable, passionate, and smart heroine and i can't wait for the next book!...more

She discovers sheClara found out 3 years ago that she is part angel, and that she was born to fulfill a purpose in life it is her destiny to do this. She discovers she has wings, is smarter, stronger, and faster than regular humans, and she has now started having visions of what her purpose will be. She dreams of a fire and a mystery boy who she believes she will have to save. This visions leads her, her mother, and her brother to Wyoming where she has to enroll in a new school to be closer to this mystery boy. This boy of her dreams is named Christian, and she is instantly attracted to him, problem is Christian already has a girlfriend Kay.
Clara tries everything she can to get close to Christian and figure out what she is suppose to do in this vision. At this new school she meets new friends like Wendy, and Angela, and then there is Wendy's twin brother Tucker. Tucker and Clara have an antagonistic relationship at first they are always teasing and fighting each other. But when everyone leaves for the summer and Clara and Tuck start hanging out more often she begins to develop feelings for him, and starts to question what her purpose and visions really mean.
I liked this book, but I didn't think it was as good as I anticipated it to be. I didn't enjoy Clara's mother because I felt she was always telling Clara what to do without giving her reasons. She wouldn't enlighten her about any of the angelic ways and that put Clara at risk. If she truly believed that the information would endanger Clara she should just say that when Clara asks. Also at other times when Clara would say something to her and she would reply I thought you knew was very frustrating because she never told Clara so how would she know.
Also Clara's brother Jeremy seemed to have a lot going on but we never really learned what any of it was. Clara commented a few times on how his wings were darker than she had previously thought but we never learned why. Finally Angela was a mystery because I think there is a lot more going on with her than was told. There were many cliffhangers at the end that I would have liked at least some of them answered. There were almost too many unknowns left a the end of the book that I felt like their were more questions and unknown plot threads than was right for a first installment book. ...more

She and Raphael come home and her first visit into public is to investigate a vampire attack at a private school where her two half-sisters go. This vampire brutalized and killed two children because he was told Raphael was gone and there would be no repercussions. This was the start of many horrifying events that young vampires committed throughout the book. These vampires were being influenced by a very powerful being, and some were being forced to do these horrific acts. This outbreak also co-in-sided with the awakening of an Ancient Archangel.
This book also held a lot of personal things for Elena. She found out quite a few secrets about her families history, and one of them was just shocking. Her father was his usually jack-ass self, and I can't wait for the day when they have a no holds barred verbal fight. It makes me so angry and sad for Elena whenever she talks to her father I just wish she could just put it all out there and either reconcile or cut each other out of their lives. We also got to see more of Elena's half-sisters which I enjoyed because it got to show a positive family connection that had never existed before.
Elena also was forced to realize that everything has changed for her. People no longer look at her the same way as she was. She is no longer the strongest Guild Hunter, and now she must hold secrets because her allegiance is to her archangel. This is especially painful for Elena because the Guild is really the only home she has ever known, and it's a shock for her to discover that she might not completely belong there anymore.
Something I really enjoyed about this book was learning about some of Raphael's Seven. These characters are amazing and I can't wait to find out each of their stories. Because it seemed that almost all of them got a some tidbit of personal information leaked in this book. I really hope she writes books about Illium, Jason, and Aodhan. I think all three of these have big issues that I can't wait to unravel. I also liked to see Elena growing with some of the Seven, though I still can't understand her relationship with Dmitiri at times it seems as if he wants to kill her, at others he seems to enjoy her. This was another great addition to the series and I can't wait to see what happens next. ...more

I really enjoyed the main character Willow, I thought she was real with her emotions and was just an extremely likable person. Alex was also a great male lead, he was young but you could hear the amount of horribly things he's already been through and his old soul matches perfectly with Willow's. Both these main characters had no childhood whatsoever. They were forced to grow up fast and be adults at a young age, this made them different than other kids their age and it also forged a stronger bond between them.
Alex hunts angels, he has since he was eleven years old. Angels aren't like you would expect they feed of the energies of humans and if a human is feed from enough times they will eventually get sick or completely loose their mind. Also when you've been fed on by an angel you get something called angel burn, which means that you don't see the angel as harming you. You see a beautiful creature that you have been blessed to see and you are loved. Most of those that have been fed on by angels join the Church of the Angels the fastest growing fad in the world. These angels are only just the first wave, there will be more to come unless someone can stop them.
Willow is a sixteen year old girl. She lives with her mom and aunt, and she's psychic. She can see peoples past, and their future when she touches them. One fellow student Beth comes up to Willow and begs her to do a reading because she needs to know what choices she should make. Willow does the reading with great apprehension, and what she sees changes everything. Beth has seen a real angel and she wants to go join the Church. Willow tells her that this path will kill her eventually and that she shouldn't do this, but she pushes too hard and Beth makes her decision. Later that night Beth's angel comes to see Willow he grabs her hand and discovers that Willow is half angel half human, which is suppose to be impossible, and also that she has the power to destroy all angels.
The angels immediately put out a hit on her, only to have their assassin realize that this girl isn't an angel like he was led to believe, and that he is being played by the very things he hunts. Alex takes Willow and tries to protect her as best he can, he hates angels but if Willow is something that can make the angels afraid than he wants have her on his side.
This story was a new and creative twist on angels, and I really liked it. The characters were engaging and well developed. Though these two teens had an instant attraction they built a relationship slowly from the ground up instead of just jumping into something. I felt horrible for Alex everything he has ever cared about his been ripped away from him, I hope he gets more happiness in the future. i also can't wait to see if there are going to be anymore angels that are good as opposed to those angels that enjoy feeding on humans. This was a great start to a series and I excited to continue on in Willow and Alex's journey....more

The hollywood IT boy of the moment loves to party and indulge himself with paid escorts. In a desperate attempt to help him Serena follows him to the new hot club to try and dissuade him from being there. But before she can find her charge she is waylaid by the Arch-demon Julian. Julian is one the most powerful demons but he has grown bored with how easily corrupted humans can be. He then lays eyes on Serena the beautiful angel, and he decides that he wants her soul as well as her charges.
Serena has a self sacrificing complex. She will do anything to help anyone even strangers. So when she meets Archer and is reluctantly attracted to him she tries to stay as far away from him as she can while still protecting her charge. Julian won't be dissauded though and he manipulates situations until she is forced to spend a week with him in Vegas where he has a new club opening. But during this week together things begin to change between the two. What once as just attraction begins to develop into something more. Both characters are put on shaky ground, Serena doesn't want to "fall" and become a demon, and Julian doesn't know if he has the power to stay away from Serena even though he know it might cost her her angel status.
Serena and Julian aren't just struggling with their feelings for each other, they are struggling to survive. A demon from Julian's past is hell-bent on getting revenge on him and seeing that he cares for Serena, Serena becomes a target as well. No one is safe not even Serena's charge who is also in the mix. This story was very entertaining. I thought that Serena went from disdaining Julian and believing there was no good in him to being in love with him and willing to risk her angel status too fast. And Julian went from wanting to take her soul to not wanting anything to hurt her. While I think that these emotions are good for the characters ending up together I felt the transition was a little abrupt. I will definitely read any future books though and am eager to see what happens with the demon who is bent on revenge. ...more
