When she was a young girl she was horribly abused by her mother, she was so traumatized by what had happened to her that she repressed much of her early youth. Most things that happened before she was sent to live with her aunt are a blur and she prefers to leave it that way. Her two best friends were murdered a year apart from each other on the exact day and the exact way. Charlene or Charlie believes that this year is her turn. She was been training since her second friend was murdered, but she knows that training might not be enough. So she accidentally enlists the aid of D.D Warren a Boston police detective.
D.D is instantly skeptical of Charlene and her story. D.D was investigating the murder of a pedophile when she first saw Charlene and chased her down. This was the second murder of a pedophile that had happened in a few days within each other, so when Charlene flees the scene after D.D see's her lurking she is instantly suspicious. Throughout the investigation D.D. starts to see connections between the murders or pedophiles and the murder of Charlies friends and that connection is Charlie. D.D begins to wonder if the psychological damage that Charlie suffers through may also be leading her to commit murder to protect people the way that no one was able to protect her.
This was a great story that constantly kept me guessing. Every time that I thought I had this story figured out a new question and theory would be thrown up and create doubt. This story was extremely entertaining and suspenseful. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story and never saw the ending coming. It was a great ending to a great story! (less)

I absolutely loved reading it. This was set in the world of the Badass. Gwen met her ideal man at a bar she went home with him and then woke up all alone, terrified that her shot a him had gone by. Except he came back a couple times every week and woke her up, their sex filled relationship lasted a year and a half before things took a turn. It was all because of Ginger, Gwen's pyscho-sister-from-hell. Ginger decided to screw every badass in Denver and now she is on the run, and now to get to Ginger people are gonna start to look at Gwen.
When Gwen is threatened Hawk is forced to come out of the dark and protect what is his in the light of day. But while Hawk decides that he wants more to their relationship Gwen decides she is done, she doesn't want to be in this badass world and she doesn't like this jerk who invades her space. This story continues back and forth with each person holding back secrets while trying to stay safe, not just safe from people trying to capture them but keeping their heart safe from the other person.
This story had a lot of action as well as romance. What I loved the most about this book though was when the action stopped the story kept going. It wasn't just oh everything is all right now and they lived happily ever after. It had a few chapters after the action ended and it had a great epilogue. I think all books need a great epilogue or you just don't feel as if the story is complete. Well this book had it all and I will definitely read more by this author! (less)

I loved that she was a genius wanting to be a normal girl, and I liked the fact that she saw patterns in everything (I'm a big fan of the late TV show Numbers, Digit was very Charlie). But I really didn't like how she figured out the terrorist plot I thought everything after that was just very far fetched.
At times I actually thought to myself this is all just very hard to believe, so that I think took a lot out of the book for me. I would get drawn into the story and then something would happen and I would be like Really? So this was a fun quirky book, but I don't know if I would read anymore about this character.(less)

Jade just made me upset with this book continually changing her mind and being overly dramatic when it came to Garret. I will probably finish the series just to see what happens. (less)
