Somehow she makes it seem effortless while others.. other make reading it feel like work (ahem Ms. Harris.. I'm looking at you) But seriously I know for a fact there are almost 30 books in the entire Otherworld series hell will be 30 b y the time I get to most of them but it doesn't really matter I just want to know more. I really like the characters. Even the small moments seem impressive because it's logical and dare I say organic enough to be acceptable as the events unfold. I won't spoil it but from the beginning of this book Paige has one serious goal in mind and it's clear it's not working to well by the end she begins to accept that and then it works out anyway. It doesn't even feel like a cheat because that's how something work in life the moment you stop trying so damn hard it falls right in your lap. Now if only I could accept them while setting up my Squid cache this weekend I'd be good. Oh did I lose you back there for a moment? Well too bad, I didn't just listen to the audiobook while lounging around I had work todo :P One other thing I like that Armstrong doesn't always choose the most popular supes to make new character introductions with. This time around we've got more Shaman and a Clairvoyant that is clearly going to be sticking around. I know I know, we've already got vamps and wares but this is circa early 2000 ok don't think about it like it's post... well you know what I mean. Alright enough of this being coy, it's time to get onto the next book. OH O)H that's another thing. I think we *sometimes* ruin the books in the series by reading these synopses, I'm making a point not to read them with this series to see how far I can go before they stop being a fun surprise. I couldn't help it with book one of Women of the Otherworld but it's been an entertaining ride since....more

I guess I'm going to have to make a new shelf in GR for what I feel just happened. I'm really not sure if the events of this book have me wanting more or less of Molly. I was thinking more but then it wasn't perfect and those bits kept coming back and irking me. Honestly it really reminded me of Percy Jackson in content but the overall experience was whoa different. I've got to sit on this for a bit, I need to know, am I judging unfairly because of the POV or how the view from that cliff is looking right now....
Alright, let's do this. It's not the POV. It's the whole book there is a lot that doesn't work well and the more you think about it it gets worse and worse. Even someone elses,Giselle's review pointed out that during the wonderful escaping for your life action sequence scene where she instead of running, GOES TO THE BATHROOM AND STARES IN THE MIRROR? Yes. It really happens. How do those two ideas stick in your mind and you choose to put them together in the same moment. Honestly I'm open to suggestions. The author herself can reply, I swear on my life I will not shoot her down. I just want to know why instead of running, like I know for a fact I would do - and I don't run, I just don't - but if my life is in danger, literally, I will run like a crazy mofo. This large black man will run like it's going out of style. Honestly. Stares in the mirror. Done. ...more

Honestly what I was expecting and what happened were a little off (not like omg huge, just a little) I see where she is trying to go with this and I like that she is slowly putting the crumbs down. There are MANY other books out there where things just seem to happen...and for no reason at all. Here is a great example of what you can accomplish when you spend some time thinking and making things work for the end game. Some things that stand out is that where there are a lot of characters running around and new ones introduced, or maybe, old ones one explained, I like that there are plain regular humans not forgotten in all the drama. I don't remember if it's a trilogy or not but I'm banking on another novella or short story soon. I can't spend this much time away from this family. I like them to much. I ended up re-reading HMCN so many times I can't even tell you, every time I know I was still laughing. When the audiobook comes out later next month I will most likely do the same....more

Seriously, I know I burned through books one and two pretty quickly so a few details were a little vague, like was Jack or Vivian first? I'm not going to ruin it, I am just saying. But really it didn't matter. This last book makes everything perfect. I really enjoyed it. There is seriously something about (haha had to check the spelling cause I've only ever listened) Evie. She's totally KATN but doesn't let it get to her. She's pretty much like a female action star, figuring things out as they go, not always getting things right, but ends up exactly how she needs to. I bleeping loved it.
So many hilarious moments were still here. Honestly, if I can't get Alice to be my BFF then I would be ok with Evie. Speaking of friends I do like that angle. It didn't seem fake, added in, or even forced. The characters know each other, they learn, and contribute to the overall story. I appreciated it.
Hey stupid, if you don't know about the bleeping bleeps then I suggest you bleeping pick this one up ;-)...more

There were a lot of things I liked loads more this time around and I really did appreciate the effort that went into it. Again though there were some flaws that still irked me. I know every book can't be perfect but sometimes you want to hope for perfection (or pretty damn close to it) you know? No joke, the amount of times Evie makes a poor decision and Lend accepts her apologies without any...reservations is really unrealistic. I mean what the bleep was that all about.
We pretty much start off with Evie doing exactly what she's always wanted to be doing. Living a nice, healthy, normal life. Knowing how my own life is - this is a tragic mistake. Thankfully she gets caught up in all the drama fairly soon. I for one was perfectly ok with it.
Without ruining the read for others I will see there were some bits of this part that just seemed to be put in there so that you would be kept in anticipation. I'm not saying it was wrong - or it left a sour taste in my mouth - it was sort of obvious. Introducing new information without any resolve or letting people live their mess without any recourse begs the question what going to happen to them next.
I did like the book though. Still it's right up my alley. I was laughing at the fun and awkward moments. The weird ones were necessary and we also had a couple life lessons sprinkled in there in case your mortality was in question before reading. All of this I was grateful for. It didn't try to hard and I had a nice pleasant feeling the majority of the time.
Simple put, if you were a fan of the first one you aren't going to find too much to complain about the second go around. If you fit that description pick it it up. Enjoy.
Two last things, thank god he wasn't a leprechaun and "Hello, Hell" < "Burning". Just saying.

I know for a fact most of my brain was thinking "oh hell no you can't give it the same rating as Fallen!" which is kind of sad. This was a much better story, characters actually lived throughout the pages, oh and I didn't want to slit my wrists thinking about how pointless the good vs (not so) evil fight was pretty much every 5 minutes of listening.
I did like this book but it did have a couple faults. There was a lot of weirdness with the lack of exposure Evie had and frankly there are times where I remember I in fact am not a female - some of those uber girl crushing moments are lost on me.
The story was decent. Evie's not an idiot. She's young but again not an idiot. It didn't take her a million pages to figure out what was going on and she has just enough indecision when it mattered to make the read worthwhile.
Really it's cute and funny and I loved it for that. Also I do love that snarkiness. Overall it does exactly as advertised and for that I am grateful. I had enough moments where I went through the emotional gauntlet coming out on the otherwise enjoying the ride. I'm hoping that we at least stick to the same formula for the next book. I'm looking forward to it....more

I know I've always been a fan of the smart, witty, dark humored variety but really it hadn't occurred to me until I picked up the short story Death and Waffles (Necromancer: A Novella). Once I knew what I was getting myself into I pretty much as quickly as time (my bandwidth) would allow Audible to download the book for me started listening this and LOVING EVERY MINUTE!
I really liked (a) it wasn't all boy meets girl (b) everyone was still a person (c) even when things were crap there was still sarcasm on Sam's side :-) Honestly, I was so much of fan of this book I knew pretty much 20 minutes in that when it was over I was going to be so sad cause there wouldn't be any more to read. That said I'd start raided other peoples shelves on GR to find more books like it (thank you Flannery for Paranormalcy it's right up my alley).
Oh yeah that book, you've came here for a review right? This one's got everything, necromancers (...), vamps, shifters, even a harbinger (whom I hope you already know and love). Everyone is pretty much trying to get along, doing their own thing, living among all those boring humans. Having jobs and all (hehehe) except for this one badass who apparently has been killing not so random but pretty specifically in fact so until someone figures out what todo about that they're all up the creek...
Like I said it's fun and witty - with loads of fun moments that will have you laughing. I must say as for audiobooks this one is great because the voice of Sam has some artistic moments that shine. He really reads it very well. I won't spoil it for you but you definitely know where the emotion is.
Currently I'm still getting my dark humor fix but when Lish McBride finishes up whatever is next I will be sure to take the plunge no matter what it's about, I don't even care if it's about emo fluffy cotton balls in denial, I'll be there. Hold Me Closer, Necromancer is a definite recommendation to all who are curious. ...more
