I picked this up because I LOVE Carina books, and I was just intrigued by the title. I'm a HUGE fan of Beauty & The Beast, so any book that hints at that theme I'm game. And this was like getting the prize in a cracker jack box! (OK, Cracker Jacks of old, because the new prizes suck, lol!)
And this title FAR from sucked!
I adored it from the first AWESOME, smokin' HAWT, sexy scene. Imagine me driving down the freeway at 80 mph listening to this crazy erotic sheet smexy scene! I was positive that everyone who drove by me knew how steamed up I was, lol! And they didn't even actually HAVE sex!
WOW, Jax Garren KNOWS how ratchet up the tension and steam up a scene!
And Therese Plummer is SUCH an awesome narrator, she lays in ON, guys!
Hauk is my verra favoritist kind of hero ~ HUGE, muscled, growly sexy voice...and even better? He's scarred, tattooed and pierced!
Oh, you sexy, SEXY man!
And once he meets Jolie, a Burlesque dancer who just happens to be the daughter of a man who stands for everything Hauk despises, he locks on. She's IT! (Be STILL my heart!!) Hauk belongs to a secret society, the Underlight, who endeavor to out corporations nasty, profittable secrets. Jolie actually believes like Hauk does...and she sees beneath the scarred face and body to a man who stands for what is right and just.
It's only that...CAN she get beyond the scars to be with him physically?
This is book 1, and while the story line for this one is wrapped up, the actual story of Hauk and Jolie continues on to book 2, How Beauty Loved The Beast. I'm usually not a huge fan of this ~ I like my hero and heroine to be TOGETHER before the book ends, even if their story arc continues onto other books, i.e. Nalini Singh's Raphael and Elana. But DAYUM, you guys....this series is FABULOUS!!
I just finished book 1 on my way to work today, and already I'm almost done w/ book 2!
I can't STOP!!
What wonderful, flawed, personable characters. If you haven't heard about this series, lemme tell you, go look for it!! I bought the Kindle edition AND the Audible edition, since I already know this one I'm going to want to reread/relisten. AND if you buy gthe Kindle edition, you get the audio discounted!

But we werWe met and got to know Mira in the Midnight Breed series as a child ~ we saw her take to Hunter, and become friends w/ Kellan & Nathan. But we were left wondering who would become her mate in the future. While I had no doubts I'd love this books, and Lara Adrian never fails to deliver w/ exellent writing packed with emotions and superior world building, I was anxious and curious to see where she'd take the Breed. If you follow the series you know that basically the world as they knew imploded in book 10, Darker After Midnight, when the secret of their exsistence was exposed to the world, and they lost their beloved home base.
Edge of Dawn picks up 20 years after the end of the last book, Darker After Midnight. The Breeds are out in the open now, but still struggling & fighting for their place in society, and being hated and ostacized by humans. Mira and Kellan were seperated several years back, and Mira has believed Kellan to be dead all that time. She's grieved him, missed the love of her life, and dedicated her life to fighting for the cause. When she learns that not only is Kellan still ALIVE, but that he is essentially and enemy she's hurt, betrayed and shocked. Not only does she not see a way for them to ever get beyond that, she sees only death, and death by the Breeds at that, in Kellans future.
This book was SO great! I loved the sturggle Mira & Kellan had to go through...while it was sometimes painful reading it, and I was sure there was no way to resolve their conflict, I absolutely LOVED seeing them rediscover one another, and learn about the world through one another's eyes. While life wasn't EASY for either of them, their romance WAS up until the break in their lives...watching them rebuild that bond, that trust, was just awesome.
I so enjoyed seeing all my old fav's from the Breed series again, and seeing the good they've found, and the fight they are still up against. While the dynamics have changed in the series, the storytelling has NOT ~ Lara Adrian at her BEST!!
I DO want to mention here that while you COULD read this book as a stand alone, you'd miss out on Mira's back story, which is awesome! ...more

Powell, to the degree that they've begun to rebel.
Psychologist Cassandra Powell has agree to come work for her father on Project Zodius, evaluating the soldiers ~ on her 3rd day on the job, she meets Michael Taylor, GTECH, and MORE. Against all her instincts, Cassandra is drawn to Michael in a way she can't control, and he's more than returning her interest...they've only begun to build a relationship when the unrest between the GTECHs, and General Powell, her father, hits an explosive point. The GTECHs have split into two groups, led by twin brothers, Caleb and Adam Rain, Good and Evil ~ and it appears to Cassandra the Michael has sided with the Adam, the Evil GTECHs, or the Zodius.
Two years pass, and the Gov't and Gen. Powell are ready to take on the Zodius, led by Adam Rain ~ and his second, Michael Taylor. He's convinced Cassandra to come back to the states and help him subdue this evil ~ but when Cassandra runs into Michael again, she can't control her feelings, or the Lifebond they had only begun to form when he'd left her two years before. She's quickly thrust into the war between the 3 factors, and realizing that Michael is not the bad guy she thought he was, but someone she wants to love...
I could SO go on about this amazing and wonderful story that is so full of secrets, lies and loyalties torn ~ but I don't want to give anything away! Ms. Jones did an amazing job of introducing us into the world of GTECHs without an information overload ~ when I read the glossary, I thought I'd be overwhelmed, but she seamlessly weaves details into the story where we pick them up naturally, withought having to think about it.
She totally drew me in, and the relationship we see build between Cassandra and Michael is at times wonderful, at times painful and frustrating, but 100% believable. I zoomed through this book ~ and already can't wait wait for the next! I'm totally imersed in the war that is quickly escalating between the two fraction of the GTECHs, and with General Powell...........
Don't think twice about buying this one ~ Michael is a hero to die for! ...more
