I'm only on page 6 and I'm having a hard time convincing myself that I should keep reading.
I'm still plugging away at this book. The story is improving and is distracting me from some of the grammatical issues and typos.(less)

The first third of the book kept me very interested and curious about what would happen next. After that, I grew slightly bored and tired with all of the fight scenes. I'm sure they were necessary, but I (personally) found them a bit tedious.
I had a hard time keeping all of the Captains and boats straight in my head. That's probably a shortcoming on my own part and not on the author's. I did enjoy this book and would recommend it to anyone looking for a YA historical novel, with perhaps a bit of fantasy? (less)

There were some great descriptions in this book "who could barely hear through the mass of crusty white hair sticking out of his ears".
But there were a lot of places where I found myself thinking, "Let's get on with the story," and I'd skim (sometimes even skipping pages). And I found the first couple chapters difficult to get into. I kept asking myself if it was necessary. And no, I still don't understand what the woman looking at Zoe's apartment had to do with the rest of the book.
Would I buy another book by this author? Probably since I have a hard time remembering whether or not I've read certain authors' books before. Would I enjoy it? I dunno. I'd guess no.(less)

As a children's author, Elysabeth Eldering has a great understanding of what kids will read and enjoy. I recommend everyone with kids learning about the United States geography gives it a try.
The only reason I don't rank it higher, is because I don't have kids and I'm not really interested in geography. :)(less)

Loree Lough has a great style that's easy and fun to read. Even though her books are inspirational Christian fiction, her style isn't overbearing and doesn't appear to be proselytizing. When I first read one of her inspirational books, I was nervous because I didn't expect to like it, but while religion is an important part of her stories, there is still a story beyond that which is intriguing and captivating.
I can't wait for Loree's next book to come out.(less)

I'd never heard of the radium dial painters before, so it was great learning about them while being entertained by the intriguing characters and all their realistic foibles. Ms. Stout's distinct voice made it seem like I was listening to the main character, Helen Waterman, tell the story instead of reading it. I laughed with the characters and found myself near tears at some points of the book. Shelley did a great job making me care about all of the characters, even the ones that weren't very nice to the main character. I'm looking forward to Shelley's next book.(less)

I literally skipped pages and pages of the book. And once I reached the point where she was rescued, I couldn't bring myself to read any more.(less)
