A passionate tale of military espionage, loyalty, and love.
Red Rain delves into the secrets of the fire balloons deployed by Japan towards the end ofA passionate tale of military espionage, loyalty, and love.
Red Rain delves into the secrets of the fire balloons deployed by Japan towards the end of WWII, the news blackout that blanketed these events in secrecy, and the reality of internment camps where Japanese Americans were forced to live like criminals behind barbed wire. Red Rain is an intriguing, suspenseful read filled with engaging characters. Against the backdrop of war torn Japan, the US internment camps, and tinder-dry US countryside Tim Wendel weaves an intricate story of one woman, motivated by the love of her family, willing to go behind enemy lines to discover the secrets that may help her country win the war. But in the end, who is family, where is home, and who should she remain loyal to? A wonderful new work of historical fiction.
I would recommend Red Rain to readers who enjoy historical fiction, romance, and suspense thrillers. Due to some of the adult content I would not recommend this book to young readers.

What is going on in the forested hills surrounding Pine Woods Ranch? Who is involved and how far will they go? These are the questions I continually asked myself while reading The Last Track. I had originally thought that the focus of this novel would be on Mike Brody's unusual paranormal talent, however, the suspense of the mysterious events that unfold during this story overshadow the paranormal aspects of this book. This is not, in my opinion, a negative. Filled with interesting real-world characters and laced with a tangled web of lies, deceit, treachery and greed The Last Track will ensnare your imagination and keep you turning pages hunting for clues and eager to learn what happens next!
I recommend The Last Track to readers of suspense thrillers and mysteries, especially to fans of mysteries with paranormal or supernatural elements. This is a wonderful debut of the Mike Brody series. I look forward to reading more of Mike Brody's adventures in the future.

The characters of Linger all have their own demons lingering just beneath the surface, demons that they must ultimately face. The Wolves of Mercy Falls series is filled with tragedy, loss, and love. The paranormal elements of these books, though integral to the story, are overshadowed by the deeply felt emotions of each character. The voice of each character feels even more raw and tortured in this novel. In Shiver, the first book in the series, these young adults are each dealing with the heavy weight of the emotional baggage they carry. These characters, and the newly introduced characters of this book, are not just burdened. In Linger these characters are broken. Will love, friendship, and strength of will be enough to help them pick up the pieces?
I highly recommend Linger (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, book 2) to readers of paranormal romance, young adult, urban fantasy, fantasy, and especially to fans of werewolf fiction. These books are on the darker side of young adult fantasy and may not be an ideal choice for sensitive readers.

Isobel Langley has a charmed life, or so she thinks. She's popular, dating the hottest football player, and is queen of her school's cheerleading squad. Varen Nethers is the dark, brooding, intellectual goth guy in her English class. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any redeeming qualities in Isobel and found myself wishing, over and over again, that this book had been told from Varen's perspective. The supernatural elements of this story, though at times confusing, were intriguing. Creagh combines historical fact and the haunting works of Edgar Allan Poe to create a suspenseful urban fantasy world. This book ends with a cliff hangar and I look forward to giving the next book in the series a try.
I recommend Nevermore (Nevermore, book 1) to readers of paranormal suspense, urban fantasy, paranormal romance, and especially to fans of young adult fiction. If Goodreads allowed for half stars, I would give Nevermore a 3.5-star rating.

Joy and her mom feel the need to grant these wishes whenever possible but Joy's older sister Icka watches on with disdain. Icka hints that there are more to Whispers than their mother mother is telling them and that Joy's power is about to change--for the worse. Are Whispers a blessing or a curse? What happens next may just change everything, but then again Icka could just be up to her old pranks and sabotaging ways.
I have to admit that though the concept of Whispers was intriguing I found the characters in the first few chapters shallow and unlikeable. I came close to giving up on this book and I am glad that I didn't. Whisper is a great start to a new young adult paranormal romance series.
I recommend Whisper to readers of young adult, fantasy, paranormal fiction, urban fantasy and especially to fans of paranormal romance.

Abbey and her best friend Kristen used to hang out in the local Sleepy Hollow cemetery, near the river where Kristen disappeared. Trying to understand what happened to her friend, and avoiding classmates who do not understand her, Abbey continues to wander the cemetery grounds. It is here that she meets gorgeous, mysterious Caspian. But as her feelings for Caspian grow, he begins to distance himself more and more. Frustrated and hurt Abbey wonders if she is destined to loose everyone she loves. A fabulous young adult paranormal romance that leaves you dangling on a precipice grasping for answers. Today is the release of The Haunted (The Hollow, book 2) and I have a copy on preorder. I can't wait to find out what happens next in this wonderful paranormal series!
I recommend The Hollow (The Hollow, book 1), to fans of paranormal fiction, young adult, urban fantasy, and especially to fans of paranormal romance.
Just one touch... White Cat is a fantastic work of urban fantasy reminiscent of the thought provoking science fiction novels of masters such as PhilipJust one touch... White Cat is a fantastic work of urban fantasy reminiscent of the thought provoking science fiction novels of masters such as Philip K. Dick. Holly Black has created an intriguing world that is frightening and utterly believable. Those born with the power to work a curse can alter a person's life with the touch of their hand, which is why the government has banned worker activity and citizens wear gloves in public. The government ban on working curses has created a large and powerful criminal underground of black market worker activity. Cassel is born into a worker family with crime family connections and grew up learning the art of the con. His attempts to live a normal life are continually undermined by his family and the ever present discrimination against those with worker ties. When Cassel realizes that something is terribly wrong, who will he turn to? Who can he trust? A fabulous beginning to the Curse Workers urban fantasy series. One of the most suspenseful, thought provoking books of 2010.
I highly recommend White Cat (Curse Workers, book 1) to readers of paranormal suspense, science fiction, mystery, crime drama, and especially to fans of urban fantasy. Though the main character is young, the gritty realism of this book may not be suitable for some readers of young adult fiction.
