I saw the trailer the other day and immediately looked for the book in Amazon and I instantly bought. As soon as I got it I devoured it in one weekend and well I can say it was very satisfactory reading.
I know that cheating is wrong and there's no way to justified but then I put myself in Rachel's shoes. I'm 28 years old and I was never the pretty one but neither the ugly one and I know what's to be successful as professional working woman (I can proudly say I’m good at what I do and I get pay well) but yet almost all my friends are fulfilling her roles as wives and mothers and I don’t have a prospect right now (not that I feel bad about it) and sometimes you can’t help but to feel a little bit stuck so in someway I do understand Rachel (not entirely though)
Rachel has always has been good student, good friend, good worker, good at everything but things for her don’t get any better. She has always has been the good girl, the best friend the one who always has to be watch her best friend get the best just because her good looks even the guy in law school that she had a crush on and admired but after having a one night stand after both getting drunk everything changes, Dex doesn’t feel guilty and he wants more of Rachel and Rachel even though she feels guilty of betraying her best friend get a glimpse at being happy with the one man that gets and he happens to be HOT. Such a tricky situation because either way somebody is going to get hurt and that’s what makes this story real, there’s no happy ending here at least not 100%.
Giffin is one of hell talented writer because she makes your empathizes with Rachel character even though there were a few times I felt she was a little to weak for my taste those were moment were outshined when she became that stronger person that was able to go for happiness. Darcy on the other side was everything you can hate in a person, selfish, sometimes mean, yes she was loyal but for what I read she made her best keeping her friend down (without even realizing she was doing it) but then I understood that her character drive was because she was the must insecure person in the world and well of course Dex, not that I didn’t love him but there were a few times, that he enchanted me with self confidence but there were times I felt he manipulated Rachel just a bit and well in the end Rachel was strong enough to put her foot down.
The secondary characters were good, I must say I loved Ethan, oh boy I wished that I good male friend I would be able to confided in, he was just lovely written and is good that the best friend wasn’t only a girl but also a boy.
In the end this is a story that treats such a sensible and moral issue that it makes you wonder if it would be really that good basing a relationship that starts by betrayal of a third person even when this third person can be somewhat selfish and deceiving? Does the means justified the end? I really can’t answer that question but I can’t tell you that this book a chick lit with a lot of heart and a very huge soul that would entertain you from the beginning to the end and may you think what would you do for you happiness?(less)

I found the story very mysterious, somewhat dark but it keeps you coming for more and more. The author throws at you a lot of twist and turns which I think that the story work so well for me. Also why I totally liked from Lisa is that she doesn't try to sugar coated the characters, for me she is one of the few authors who knows how to describe teenagers in a very realistic way and she's not afraid of using strong language to prove her point without over doing it and she also manages to make you feel for this characters.
I really liked Kendall with her OCD and all, even though this was something that really made her days rough she was manage to always keep herself calmed at least in the exterior. Jacian (and Latin which make him win many more point with me) was cool too a bit jerk yes but in the end he end ups warming up to Kendall and when he does the dynamic between this two turns out to be very good.
I do have to complain that when the author finally put everything together it leaves you wanting more about those who went missing and the mystery surrounding the disappearance yes you get an explanation but it felt a bit vague, I wish more could have been explained.
But if you are fan of Mrs. Mcmann this book is totally for you and well if you like a mystery and ghosts story this book is for you as well! (less)

Amber is a normal teenager but in the last months her world has been turn upside down decisions has been made that would altered her own existence and now the day before her life changes she wants to be herself but a beautiful stranger would change her and make her seer the things from another point of view.
As usual Mr. Schroeder has a gift to write beautiful thing with some many little words, I mean is so wonderful how written can express so much in verses. The thing that I liked the must about the book is how little by little is unfold the reason why Amber is so afraid of the next day, how she thinks she wouldn't be able to handle since she's been forced into a situation she didn't ask for. There's also Cade, the guy who's having a similar situation as her but maybe a bit extreme, I loved how both were both were there for each other and how they help each other and of course it was interesting to see how little by little they were falling for each other. It didn't felt force and I loved that.
The end was very simple yet very sweet like I said the author has a talent to write simple but yet beautiful awesome stories.(less)

I choose this series in particular because I have heard nothing but praise about this book and I thought it was time.
The final verdict? I loved it. The story get you all wrapped in it from the very beginning, I do have to admit that at first is a little slow but I think that is necessary because once Mrs. Moning take you into his Fey world, you gotta pay attention to every detail because eventually everything would click together in some point of the book or in the others books coming.
What make this book so good to me was Mackayla, she was the combination of Elle Woods (Legally Blonde) with Buffy the vampire Slayer but in her early days. She was an everyday girl with a high sense of fashion but she had spunk and not to mention a lot of courage because not anyone would have flown to a different continent to find out about their twin sister murder. She had to make a 360 change in her life and with all the complications it could bring she does it without thinking. The other good thing about Mackayla is that evolves, into a stronger and more independent person of course with the help of Barons (going there in just a few words more) and her survivor instincts kicks making her more stronger through all the book. I have to give kudos to Mrs. Moning for giving us a kick ass heroine but with a good heart and of course a very high fashion style.
So then comes Jerricho Barons, the warrior, taker, user and another few adjectives I could use to describe him. At first I was kind piss off at him for being an ass with her but at first he just want her not to get into trouble but as soon as he realize of her “ability” then his force to take her under his care and at first he user her for his own purpose but in the end he little by little warm at her and we to read a few sexuals moments between this two and of course it comes the biggest mistery of the book, who and what the hell is Barons? Mrs. Moning gives nothing away.
And of course I can't forget to mention the Seelies who are the beautiful ones but the ones that can makes you sex slave which bring us to Vlane, the sexy Fey Prince, who "needs" Mac and of course make her have very sexy and hillarious moments and then are the Unseelies who are the ugliest one but they are dangerous and are being released and controlled by the real antagonist of the story the Lord Master. Which also you don’t get much information about just to know that it was the person that it was involved in the murder of Mac's sister and of course everybody have ulter motives and hidden agenda with Mac and believe me that's not a good thing.
Like a mention before Mrs. Moning is a really gifted author because she submerges you in the Dublin Fey world and even though is fantasy book she makes a wonderful job describing the human personality. Her writing is elegant, very descriptive and also natural.
This is a kick ass beginning for the series even with a slow start but very strong ending and of course I already devour the second book (review coming soon). Mrs. Moning has become one of my favorite authors.(less)

This is definitely a bit different from what’s out there, I can even say there were parts of the novel where I found it a bit too strong for teenagers but I guess the nature of the story called upon some of those scenes and to be honest I loved them because it wasn’t cheesy it was just how I would have described (that is of course I had the talent of Mrs. Haye).
Theia is a girl who always has been told how to behave, how to dress or even how to sit by his strict (bit of an ass) father but after one night she see a burning man falling down from the sky her life changes and everything knows goes upside down. The one thing a like about Theia is that even though she was a bit too goody goody for my taste you get to see a lot of character development and in the end of the book almost the last few pages I was OMG you go girl! And Haden, my dear beloved Haden, a mysterious, gorgeous and very charming boy who wanted Theia but at the same time wouldn’t dare to take was she was given. He’s mysterious and at first you don’t know what he’s up to but little by little thing are revealed I was very surprise and I was very relieved it didn’t have anything to do with werewolves, or vampires or fey. I also was completely mesmerized with their relationship there was a tension, longing, passion and even it was a bit sexy (if that's the right word) that eventhough I got frustrated with Haden for being so Hot & Cold with Theia but slowly he starts to give in and that's when chaos starts to ensue. I wish I could say more but I don't want to spoil you, you must read it.
I liked the secondary characters the strong Donny and the mystic Ames . They both had an important part in the book and in Theia's life. I liked that her two best friend where there for her always even when Theia thought she was loosing her mind they believe in her and helped her through. I also found myself loving Gabe, he was SO funny and sweet with Theia and ultimately patience with Donny (loved that couple).
The plot was very well developed, like I said before you don’t know much about Haden or why does he suddenly appear in school and in her dreams but little by little the truth comes out and boy I wasn’t expecting that one. The only moments I found the book a little slow when the whole gang (you will get to meet them when you read the book) got reunited sometimes those scenes seemed a bit forced but I knew there were necessary because everything couldn’t be about Theia & Haden. The only thing that I have to say about the antagonist of the story is totally creepy and I don't see how but hope that in books to come they would be able to beat it.
The good thing is that the book will keep you guessing and just when you think things are not going to be alright for these two, things work out not perfectly but they do work out. Looking forward to Dreaming Awake but the waiting would be long because it would be published not until 2012.(less)

I actually liked this book a whole lot because it didn’t carry the emotional baggage of a teenager having special and unique powers, it was a very fun read ahd it was different but a good different and even though it doesn’t carry the emotional weight of others book I think is there were the strength book lies a fun read but very well plotted.
Evie is your typical teenager, the girl gotta lot of spunk and even though she have a very unique and when I say unique it goes above the charts she tries to live her life as normal as she can. Even when her best friend is a mermaid and her ex is fae with a very bad obsession with her but things starts to get crazy when supernatural beings start to disappear and being murder and she start to hear voices in her dreams which link her to those same disappearance and murders.
The author does an excellent job transporting you to the paranormal world she has created. Evie works for an association which trying to keep a leash over all the paranormal being at first Evie thinks she’s doing what’s suppose to be job but after meeting a certain cute shape shifter she learns that Agency may have a double agenda.
There were a few moments where the novel turns a bit too teeny booper for me like I felt I was reading Gossip Girl with paranormal characters but it didn’t happen often and not to mention I was always laughing because the hilarious situation that was Evie was often put herself into.
The relationship between Len and her was VERY cute, nothing too passionate but yet it was very nice to read about this two, the second characters were good too, they didn’t just hang there but really become part of the story and the antagonist you would never even guess where and how it comes from and I like that the author keeps everything under wraps because it keeps in suspense. The one thing I have to complain was the end of the book, it was a bit to abrupt for me but I guess
So if you want to read a fun but good story Paranormalcy is your book, I can assure you would have a fun, action packed and entertaining reading. Evie is definitely a charmer but with a good heart and she would totally win you over.(less)

I must say that there are part of the book which are unique and very interesting but the are others which I find a bit flat and lacking of the magic that makes a book extraordinary.
The book is narrated from the first point of view through the eyes and voice of Clara which for me was a decent young female heroine there were times I would sympathize with her character and tried to understand what she was going through but there was sometimes I just didn't care enough about her and so this happen with Tucker and with Christian. The author did I find job constructing the plot and creating the setting but when it was time to get to explore the characters there weren't much depth into them.
The romantic relationship was something that left me wanting for more, I get the whole I hate you but I love you thing but I just didn't understand how they actually felt in love with each other, no I'm not going to say which of the two lead males I'm talking about, so there is no development in that area and for me is all about developing the relationship between the main characters. The relationship with the other one was also a bit weird for me because there suppose to be a bond but I never found it and I wish that could have been explained a bit more like I said the main problem of the book was the depth of the characters.

After Sophie brush with death she have to resume her life once again, with an overprotective mom and a very different Weston but this different is good he doesn’t want to take her time with Sophie for granted and be with her as much as she can but attention has been drawn to Weston and his company after Sophie’s aftermath and now Wes secret is in danger to be revealed and his life may be in danger.
I thought before writing this review how I would describe Wes and Sophie’s relationship in this book and they only thing that came into my mind was corny but don’t get me wrong is not a bad corny, a good corny, the kind of corny that you read and you don’t want stop reading it and the corny that every girl wants in her life. I couldn’t help to fall in love with their relationship even though they were attached to the hip in this book and Shelena found the way to write those scenes as something natural, as they were both meant to be this close and they were sharing each and every minute together. Did I find it obsessive? Not at all…. I find it very romantic.
I loved Weston in this book, he was surer of himself, more loving, more caring and sexier and I loved that he was willing to put everything in the line for Sophie even if that means putting his life on the line
The only thing that I find lacking was the antagonists of the story, we are still in the dark about whom or what they want and though I was happy that this was Sophie & Weston book I would have a little more about them and their motivation behind their scheming to get their hands on Weston.
So I wish I could say more about the book the plot because it would ruin the whole experience but if you liked the Pace I can assure that you are going to LOVE The Broken Lake I think 2010 is my year of reading awesome books and I can’t wait to get my hands on The Iron Quill.
Thanks to Michelle (Windowpane Memoirs) for me letting me participate in the The Broken Lake Arc Tour. (less)
