It's been awhile since I've read a good thriller, so when I discovered I won this book through First Reads on Goodreads, I was super excited!!
Elizabeth Haynes tells a great story, that's disturbing at the same time. The book itself is slow moving, but there's enough to keep you interested, and eventually it hooks you.
I love that the book alternates between the main characters Annabel and Colin. It also tells the stories of the victims, and it turns out there are many of them. Annabel is a police analyst and Colin is a loner who is creepy as all get out. People are dying left and right from what looks like natural causes, but there is much more than meets the eye. Annabel and Colin eventually meet, the story takes more twists and turns, and eventually everything falls into place.
The ending is edge of your seat, and the book is very good overall. If you like a good thriller, then this book is for you!
I really loved this story. It was very well written and I couldn't wait to read the next twists and turns in Charlene and Raven's stories. Charlene abandoned Raven, she then was raised by Charlene's parents. Raven gets to the point in her life where she wants to know more about her mother, and starts digging for answers. At the same time, it seems like Charlene could give a crap less about her daughter, and is only on a selfish mission to stardom in Hollywood.
Truths come out, lies are kept hidden and there is some drama along the way. Raven falls in love, Charlene also falls in love, but both of their relationships are complicated in completely different ways. Through this book we read each of their stories, from their point of view and it keeps the pages turning. This book did not disappoint and I am excited to read the second part in the series. I am so glad the author contacted me, otherwise I may never have found this great story. I recommend this book for anyone who loves a great story.(less)
I just love when you finish the second book in a series, and it's just as good as the first. That's the case with Miss Scandalous. Raven and Charlene are back again, with more drama and heartache. This book sucks you in from the beginning, and once again I couldn't put it down. I love how Nicole's writing and characters are so real. You feel a wide range of emotions when reading about their life, and wonder if things will ever be "normal" for them, after all they've gone through. I highly recommend this book and the first in the series, Miss Nobody. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series!
I was excited to read this book since I'm a huge lover of memoirs. Poetry isn't really my thing, but I'm always willing to give any type of book a try.
This book was average compared to other memoirs I've read in the past. Parts of Amber Dawn's story were very interesting, but overall it lacked a complete memoir in my opinion. The poetry was good. I love how when reading about someone's life, you learn about people who's life is so very different from your own. This book is overall a decent read, I just wish it would've been a little longer, and more in depth.
I won this book from First Reads on Goodreads. That has not influenced my opinion in any way.(less)
I was super excited when I found out I won this book through First Reads on Goodreads. I am a huge fan of dystopian fiction, so this was right up my alley. The book was just average in my opinion, and read more like a mystery, than dystopian books I've read previously. That was my misunderstanding though. The story moved fairly slow and was somewhat predictable. It's not a waste of time, but I've read much more interesting stories. It was my first Finnish crime book, so I definitely found that interesting as I love to read different types of books.
Overall I rate this book 2.5 out of 5 stars.(less)
I was super excited to find out I won this book through First Reads. I have some Carl Weber books on my bookshelf, but haven't had the chance to read any yet.
This book was very good! The drama and the characters had me turning the pages, and staying up until 1am trying to finish. Daryl is a main character everyone would love, especially the ladies. This story had a good variety of characters. The ending was somewhat predictable, but still had a few surprises and I enjoyed it alot. I will definitely be reading more books Carl Weber very soon.
The only complaint I have with this book is the misspelling of Daryl's name on the dust jacket. Throughout the whole book his name is spelled "Daryl" and the dust jacket and Goodreads description is spelled "Darryl". In my opinion, this is a mistake that should've been corrected before books were sent out for printing. He is the main character. Kind of important.
I really don't know much at all about the hotel industry, so this book was a huge eye opener for me. Jacob Tomsky comically and cleverly tells the story of his experience working in hotels, and what goes on behind the scenes. He totally makes it seem like the hotel industry is brutal, and after reading this book, I would never want to work in a big hotel.
I loved the stories about the crazy hotel guests and the types of relationships some of them formed with the employees. I learned that if you have any outrageous mini bar charges on your bill, whether they were from you or not, if you dispute them, more than likely they will be removed. This book is full of fun facts and stories and it will keep you reading from start to finish. I really enjoyed it overall. It's a funny glimpse into a life nothing like mine. That's why I love memoirs so much. (less)
I loved Wisdom's character from No More Time Outs, so I was excited to find out there is now a sequel! With death hanging over Wisdom's head, he decides before he dies, he needs to set his family on the right path. Both of his brothers are still a mess, both lost to the streets. His sister and preacher father haven't changed either, and are still out cheating on their spouses. Wisdom knows he needs to pull the family together for his mother's sake. If he's giving his life for his sick mother's replacement kidney, he needs them to make some sacrifices as well. Wisdom comes into some crazy drama and obstacles during his week long journey to bring his crazy family together. Some of these people in this book have completely fallen off their rocker and will stop at nothing to get what they want. I also love this book is set in Detroit! One of my favorite cities!
This book is non stop action, just like Slater's other books. I love how he switches between main characters, alternating chapters, so you see it through everyone's eyes. I didn't lose interest through the entire book, and I was anticipating what the next round of craziness would be. I really liked the ending and how everything turned out. Great read!

This book is the first of two books in a series. I actually read the second one, The Other Side of Goodness first, not knowing there was a prequel.
Gabrielle Mercedes has had a rough life and it seems that all odds are against her. After almost losing her life from an attack late at night, after work as an exotic dancer, she decides to check out a local church. After attending and making a few friends, she decides to join and give her life to God.
There are issues with the church congregation learning of her past and not liking it, as well as people embracing her with open arms. Gabrielle goes through alot of struggles, but keeps her head up and stays away from the devils grasp.
This book is great overall and keeps you interested from start to finish. I'm not much of a Christian fiction reader, but this book definitely has an awesome story to tell.

This book is a very interesting and easy read. Asabe is a great woman, and no matter what her husband does, she is loyal, and stands by his side. He decided to take on a second wife and eventually a third wife to become pregnant with a son because Asabe is not able to conceive. Not everything works as planned and alot of heartache and struggle follow with the new wives and the children they have.
I really liked this book alot overall, but the editing was definitely lacking. It did not take away from the story by any means, but just could've been better. I would check out other books by this author.

Detroit City is the Place to Be, is a great title for this book. It describes how I feel about the city perfectly. I had the chance to go to Detroit with my sister Shannon, in the summer of 2011. We visited the Heidelberg Project, met Tyree Guyton, saw Michigan Central Station, and even ate at an awesome artisan deli in Corktown, called Mudgie's. These are just a few places that makes Detroit, the amazing city it is today and in the future!
This book describes Detroit's history, it's people and what might happen in the future. It mentions true crime stories, info about the failed auto industry, describes various structures and neighborhoods, and corruption within the city government. The descriptions about the city landscape are very accurate and real, even though you really have no idea what's it's like until you see the city with your own two eyes. The author did a fantastic job researching and writing this book and I was hooked from page one. (less)
