I just love when you finish the second book in a series, and it's just as good as the first. That's the case with Miss Scandalous. Raven and Charlene are back again, with more drama and heartache. This book sucks you in from the beginning, and once again I couldn't put it down. I love how Nicole's writing and characters are so real. You feel a wide range of emotions when reading about their life, and wonder if things will ever be "normal" for them, after all they've gone through. I highly recommend this book and the first in the series, Miss Nobody. I am anxiously awaiting the next book in the series!
I really loved this story. It was very well written and I couldn't wait to read the next twists and turns in Charlene and Raven's stories. Charlene abandoned Raven, she then was raised by Charlene's parents. Raven gets to the point in her life where she wants to know more about her mother, and starts digging for answers. At the same time, it seems like Charlene could give a crap less about her daughter, and is only on a selfish mission to stardom in Hollywood.
Truths come out, lies are kept hidden and there is some drama along the way. Raven falls in love, Charlene also falls in love, but both of their relationships are complicated in completely different ways. Through this book we read each of their stories, from their point of view and it keeps the pages turning. This book did not disappoint and I am excited to read the second part in the series. I am so glad the author contacted me, otherwise I may never have found this great story. I recommend this book for anyone who loves a great story....more
I loved this book as much as I loved the first two in the series, Life as We Knew It and The Dead and Gone. This book brings the main characters Miranda and Alex together. Like the others, this story has you at the edge of your seat. You want and need to keep reading to see who will survive and who doesn't. Food and supplies are hard to come by and you never know what's going to happen from one day to the next. I highly recommend this book! No disappointments here! I just found out on Goodreads there will be another book to this series. GEEKED!! :)...more
I love when you read a series, and the second book is just as good as the first. This book follows Alex, a teen who lives in New York City, when the Asteroid hits the moon. His struggle is much different than Miranda's, from the first book in the series, Life as We Knew It. Alex's parents disappear in the madness and he is responsible to take care of his two younger sisters. Imagine being so hungry and desperate, that you need to steal valuables from dead bodies to survive. This is Alex's new life. What these characters have to go through is unimaginable. This book is a page turner and I could not put it down. I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves apocalyptic books. Don't let the "Young Adult" label fool you. These books are for everyone who enjoys a great read!...more
I loved this book from start to finish. Written in diary form, Miranda tells her story starting with the day when a meteor hits the moon and knocks it off it's axis. This causes the moon to be closer to earth, and triggers worldwide natural disasters and extremely cold temps. There are food shortages, people dying everywhere and the flu makes it's round too. How do you survive with little to no electricity in a world that's technology driven?
This book is the first in a 3 book series. The storyline makes you think what if, and that alone makes you want to keep reading to see what happens next. I highly recommend this book to anyone, even though it's aimed toward a young adult audience. ...more
I've never read a Diane Chamberlain book that I haven't loved. She is such a talented author, and has a way of writing that makes you want to read more. This book was no exception. As a Mom, I felt so bad for Susanna losing custody of her son, especially when she was a good Mom, but didn't have the funds to fight like her cheating ex husband did. I really don't blame her for taking off and starting a new life somewhere else, even though it wasn't easy. There is nothing like a Mother's love for her child and sometimes you do whatever possible to keep them close. This book also has a love story. Susanna chooses to leave the love of her life, Linc when she takes off without even saying goodbye. The struggle they both go through is hard, but their love is strong and maybe someday they can be together again. This is a page turner from beginning to end and I really liked the story....more
I loved Wisdom's character from No More Time Outs, so I was excited to find out there is now a sequel! With death hanging over Wisdom's head, he decides before he dies, he needs to set his family on the right path. Both of his brothers are still a mess, both lost to the streets. His sister and preacher father haven't changed either, and are still out cheating on their spouses. Wisdom knows he needs to pull the family together for his mother's sake. If he's giving his life for his sick mother's replacement kidney, he needs them to make some sacrifices as well. Wisdom comes into some crazy drama and obstacles during his week long journey to bring his crazy family together. Some of these people in this book have completely fallen off their rocker and will stop at nothing to get what they want. I also love this book is set in Detroit! One of my favorite cities!
This book is non stop action, just like Slater's other books. I love how he switches between main characters, alternating chapters, so you see it through everyone's eyes. I didn't lose interest through the entire book, and I was anticipating what the next round of craziness would be. I really liked the ending and how everything turned out. Great read!

Detroit City is the Place to Be, is a great title for this book. It describes how I feel about the city perfectly. I had the chance to go to Detroit with my sister Shannon, in the summer of 2011. We visited the Heidelberg Project, met Tyree Guyton, saw Michigan Central Station, and even ate at an awesome artisan deli in Corktown, called Mudgie's. These are just a few places that makes Detroit, the amazing city it is today and in the future!
This book describes Detroit's history, it's people and what might happen in the future. It mentions true crime stories, info about the failed auto industry, describes various structures and neighborhoods, and corruption within the city government. The descriptions about the city landscape are very accurate and real, even though you really have no idea what's it's like until you see the city with your own two eyes. The author did a fantastic job researching and writing this book and I was hooked from page one. ...more

This book is a very interesting and easy read. Asabe is a great woman, and no matter what her husband does, she is loyal, and stands by his side. He decided to take on a second wife and eventually a third wife to become pregnant with a son because Asabe is not able to conceive. Not everything works as planned and alot of heartache and struggle follow with the new wives and the children they have.
I really liked this book alot overall, but the editing was definitely lacking. It did not take away from the story by any means, but just could've been better. I would check out other books by this author.

This one tells more of Keith and Maggie's stories and the struggles they go through after Maggie is released from jail, which happens to be the same day as Sara disappears. There are alot of tough situations for both Maggie and Keith and they happen to go through alot of the same feelings and emotions. I love that Andy has a girlfriend, and Marcus and Laurel have a great relationship. This is your typical Diane Chamberlain book, which has some of everything including drama and mystery. It touches so many topics which keeps it interesting throughout the book. She has a true storytelling talent and this was as good as the rest I've read by her.

The island setting was really interesting too and fit into the story perfectly. The ending was a huge surprise and I did not see it coming. I really liked how it all turned out in the end, besides what happened to Maggie. This book was such a page turner, and I was up a couple of nights until midnight reading it, not being able to put it down. Good thing I was on vacation and didn't have to get up early the next morning!

Kayeen Thomas does a great job combining urban fiction with historical fiction in this novel.
Moses, the main character, who's also known for his very controversial name, is a popular rapper who lives life for music, women, drugs, drinking etc. The fast life is leading him down a very rocky road. He gets shot by a rival rapper's crew and during his coma he gets transported back into slavery.
I cannot even describe the torture and pain Moses had to endure as a slave. It is so heartbreaking to know these horrible things happened in our history and how some of these brave souls survived. Life on the plantation was well described and very real feeling. I also loved how the past and present time were tied together. Overall, I thought this book was phenomenal and I cannot wait to read the sequel. The author did a great job!

It is everything you would expect of a street lit novel, and it was addictive from page one. Ruffneck is ruthless. At age 8, his parents were murdered right in front of him, and from that point forward, he was dead set on revenge. Detroit is the perfect setting for Ruffneck's gritty and dark story, and the storyline was exciting throughout the whole book. I loved the serial killer tie-in and especially liked the scene inside the Michigan Central Train Station, which I got to see for myself last summer. It is quite the amazing structure!
It's not that often where you find a book that you love from start to finish. This book was exactly that for me. I really enjoyed it and the story was solid through the end. This book is the second I've read from this author and both have been great. Strebor Books is also a great publisher, so I know when they've published it, it's going to be quality.
I received a copy of this book from the author to read and review. It has not influenced my opinion in any way.

Forget about reading it because this 15 minute book has nothing to do with most of the description. When I say 15 minutes worth of reading time, I'm not exaggerating whatsoever. I know you can't expect much for $.99 (which is what I paid, but now B&N ebook price is $5.99, which is complete rip off), but give me at least an hour's worth of reading.
This book covers less than 1 day in Karmen's life, the day she met Jazzy. She meets him on the corner, gets in a car with him, and he buys her whatever she wants, they go out to dinner, he gives her 5 grand, and get their groove on. They already decide she's his main girl even though they just met and damn near fall in love. We get the hint he's a pimp. End of story.
So where does Jazzy's fist come into play in this book? Did Barnes and Noble rip me off and sell me an incomplete ebook because half that description isn't even this story? What a waste of time. I will not read part 2. It took me longer to write this review than it did to read this SHORT, SHORT story. Ugh.

I learned so much about food, how to raise it and living a mostly self sustaining lifestyle. This is a great life that alot of us would love to live, and it's cool to read the process written out in great detail. I could just taste and smell the wonderful, fresh food as I was reading about it. I am a sucker for any fruits or veggies especially if they are garden fresh or canned homemade. Kingsolver writes in detail that makes you feel as if you were there right along side of her wishing you had access to these awesome foods. I will be keeping this book because there are some great recipes in it that I can't wait to try this summer!!
I rated this book 3.5 out of 5 stars. The reason it didn't get a full 5 stars? Some chapters had entirely too much rambling info. I did skim over quite a few parts here and there just to get back to the story. This book also took me 3 weeks to read, which means, it didn't hold my attention quite enough to want to finish fast. It was overall a great read though and packed full of lots of great info!

A little girl, who they eventually call Alice, shows up in the middle of town. She came from the wilderness and cannot speak or communicate. Julia Cates, a psychiatrist, gets called in by her sister Ellie, who is the police chief in town to work with the little girl until her parents are found. It's not easy, but Julia and Alice have a special bond, and they start to make progress getting Alice used to life in the real world.
I felt this book was well researched and had a great storyline. It combined a little bit of mystery along with a love story and it hooks you from the very beginning! I would recommend it to anyone who likes Jodi Picoult or Diane Chamberlain!

What is wrong with people?? The things he put Jaycee Dugard through are unimaginable to any normal, sane person. It makes you want to never let your children out of sight. Jaycee is a survivor, and she is one of the few who actually got lucky and got to go home, even if it was 18 years later. This is not a easy book to read as far as how heart breaking it is. Me being the sappy Mom I am, shed tears a couple times, thinking how horrible it was for her Mom and Jaycee.
Jaycee explains life before and after the kidnapping, as well as her life in between. She not only came out as a survivor, but a mother of two girls. This is a must read for anyone!
