I was thinking along the lines of lots of erotic scenes with little to no story but it's the other way around. This story surprised me and in a good way too. There's always the sexy trademark of Alpha heroes, and equally Alpha heroines who can give as good as they got.
There's a little mystery here about some relationships, and learning to trust someone no matter how difficult it is. There's a short time frame but I expected that....more

I thought it was one of those Christmas-themed short stories and was pleasantly surprised to see that isn’t the case. Ian finally grew up to look like a man instead of a boy and he’s looking for true love…in a lady Vamp. This hope was thought of in a logical sense, Ian good man that he is, doesn’t want to lie about his true self. He’s really adorable and since I’m a fan of Scottish Highlanders it was easy to love his character. He went to Horny Devils to find his mate but it’s really not the place for that. He confided to Vanda and though her intentions were good, it didn’t turn out as planned. Toni has suffered a lot of rejections and I admire her 4 morning affirmations. From the start, it was obvious she and Ian would suit because he flirted naturally with her. They rile each other up and it was amusing. I also liked Carlos and knew somehow he’s not just another neighbor. I think the gay acting is just a front. I think Sabrina and Teddy would have something in the future. I like the developments here, especially the slow addition of shapeshifters in the series, and that they’re working for the Vamps. In the previous book, Phil shifted a large wolf and saved Heather by stalling Louie. Ms Sparks writes fluently and she really does captivate me with her stories. The characters are an eclectic mix, from past to present, and her Vamps have a dose of pop culture. I’m glad there are many more stories in this series to devour. ...more

Jean-Luc is a jaded French vampire who wants to exile himself for 25 years in the most unlikely place – Texas. It’s fun to read a vampire story in a rural setting, like in Charlaine Harris’s “Stookie Stackhouse” novels, but the two series are incomparable. Ms Sparks gives us a plus-size heroine, which Jean-Luc found refreshing. He’s tired of skinny models that are really shallow. I like Heather’s strong will and Jean-Luc was kind to her irritating ex-husband considering the things he said. Some people are just normally deranged and unreasonable. Heather is also perceptive so her suspicions are spot on. Her daughter is adorable too. I enjoyed the small town setting, there are the usual characters, Coach is equally annoying by the way, and her friend Sasha was really full of herself it’s no wonder she was easily manipulated. We have a new addition of a supernatural being who’s not exactly a new character. Jean-Luc really knows how to put on the charm and his skills in seduction. I enjoyed their moments together. Looking forward to Ian’s story, it really got me excited....more

I didn't read the description so I didn't know what to expect, but it worked out well for me.
There's the usual instant attraction between mortal and vampire but what I appreciated is the parallel sides of both the Vampire and human world. I just love the vampiric counterparts, DVN is really amusing.
After four years, Darcy still couldn't get over the truth that she's a vampire. It took a mortal, Austin, to set her straight. I love the reality show and the goings on, it's easy to imagine watching it on primetime television.
Aside from all that, my annoyance with the ex-harem diminished when I tried to understand where they came from and what era they lived in. They surely made a lot of progress and came a long way to being empowered.
Darcy again is presented a choice, something she didn't have before. I was a little disappointed with Austin at first but he soon proved his love for Darcy in a very clear way. I just love how science and fiction blended well in this story.
I'm looking forward to the next in the series!...more

Ms Showalter, again, impressed me with her storytelling and the knack for presenting unresolvable conflicts.
This is a story of sacrifice and it's really painful. Both Olivia and Aeron, even Legion (the brat) made sacrifices. It tells of living life to the fullest and that's my favorite part. In the first chapter, Aeron and Paris were discussing mortals and their carefree ways, which was baffling to an immortal like Aeron. We know we'll die someday that's why we're living the way we want to.
Aeron was a big a-hole to Olivia at first, he has his reasons and I really felt for her. No matter how fragile she looked, the fallen angel hides tenacity behind her delicate look; both Wrath and Aeron couldn't help themselves. Olivia wanted to really feel, to be alive as a mortal and do what mortals do, but no matter how she wants to do something bad, her pure nature stops her, and that's really admirable, resisting temptation.
Olivia and Aeron's first time together was explosive. I was expecting something more gentle but hey, it worked! Scenes were really hot and I felt their bond and not just the physical.
A lot of developments happened and I can't wait for the next story!...more

The characters are really flawed and meant for each other. Who better to match with Death than Anya, Goddess of Anarchy?
Again, I'm impressed with the conflict presented and impressed that through one's sacrifice could one attain the unattainable.
I really liked Anya and her unpredictability. I didn't mind the stealing part, it's a certain compulsion that distracts her from doing something irreversible. Lucien pushed her away many times because of his insecurities but she forged on until he believed she truly desired him.
Their intimate dealings were very sensual and exciting, very well written and the crude language added to the arousal. It is in these scenes where the 2 are very vulnerable.
What I appreciate about this story is the adventure in it. The demons get to travel to find the artifacts, which reminds me of other novels but purely for scientific research. They are trying to defy a Titan and I liked the balance shift. I'm thrilled to learn of other demons' stories, especially Reyes and Danika, whose emotions towards each other always run high....more

Gena Showalter really entertained me with the story, I liked the blood and violence, the love story, sex scenes, and the mystery of breaking the curse.

We'll still see the Lanie and Lucien here, both of them arranging for the impossible mating to work between Jackie and Zane.
Both of them eventually worked it out and the couplings were downright primal. There was just a right amount of history, sex, and coming to terms that they're both mated. There's violence too, by the way....more

This reminded me of a Japanese anime I watched because vampires are feral, soulless beings.
I felt like I was watching a movie cause this one has the makings of a good one. The author set the mood well since I was caught up in the "we might die today" feeling and the characters were diverse. There were some scenes that annoyed me cause some of them were immature.
The events that followed were unpredictable cause I always sensed that danger lurked around. In a time of tragedy, self preservation kicks in and some deep-seated longings come out in the open. It's also good that the author conveniently mentions bits of history through some characters' musings.
All in all, this is a good read but it's really not my type of thriller....more

I'm a fan of shifter novels cause I can't resist a sexy alpha. Given that it's a short story, I knew what to expect when it comes to the pace, characters, and erotic couplings.
I obviously enjoyed it cause I wanted to know how Lanie would acknowledge what she's really feeling. Lucien is aggressive because that's the Alpha's nature and he does things the only way he knows how. He gets to the point. I liked that they did "couple" things together and Lucien was sweet and caring. I didn't even mind the time frame when they fell in love. I believe in instances of knowing your one true love by instinct.
The scenes between them were really hot and Ms Persaud really built up the tension between them. Their intimate times together were both passionate and primal. I liked Lanie cause she's kickass. There was a slight misunderstanding between them when it came to Lucien's intentions but that would be resolved through the direct way.
I'm looking forward to reading the next! This is a good start of a series....more
