The story shows how miscommunication ruins everything, and in order to get what you really want, sacrifices and compromise must be made.
I liked both characters, they wounded each other deeply but they affect each other like no one could. The erotica was blatant I didn't mind when they talked dirty, I appreciated it in fact because they expressed their passions freely.
I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series.(less)

It was a marriage of convenience for Gerard and Isabela, despite she being older, they are alike in most ways. Both of them have casual relationships and both were hurt from a previous love.
I liked how the story progressed, I found myself excited to read on. I could've finished this in a matter of hours if I weren't working. I liked how Ms Day balanced erotica and a good love story, how intense true love is, and she displayed it quite well, both characters have fear of rejection, of losing the other that sometimes they're irrational.
I also liked the love that blossomed between the secondary characters. I found myself wanting to read more, it's quite open-ended. I laud the excellent author as always for being versatile in both historical and contemporary erotic romance. Her stories leave me breathless.(less)

This novel reminded me how I missed reading mysteries, especially those that proves my suspicions wrong. I love how the love story shifted from the main characters to the secondary ones.
Again, Ms Wylde has caught my interest and I finished it in one reading. The characters were really amusing, but I have to admit I liked the pairing of Catherine and William than that of Emma and Richard. I'm fond of the love-hate formula 'cause a little challenge is always good for the determined suitor.
I liked how the humorous tone of the novel disguised the severity of some situations. The duke is clever indeed and this novel is clean in every sense. There was a murder but it wasn't described in gory detail, the love blossoming between the couples would make a school girl giddy and of course they could only express their desires through stolen kisses, which was adorable.
For those looking for a light read with a little bit of everything (except drama), this one's highly recommended!(less)

First, it's refreshing. Ms Wylde's writing style is seamless. I definitely liked her storytelling and I could easily imagine the characters, especially Penelope, her antics, and all the mishaps she attracts.
Second, the sense of humor - it was effortless. My favorite scene was when the duke sent for the physician, and the sequence of events after that (not gonna spoil anything here). I also liked how unpredictable some scenes were, just when I thought I've read something like it, I'm still...flabbergasted.
Third, the mixed emotions. I have to warn some future readers that though this is really a quirky historical romance, some scenes made me tear up. Yes, I was smiling and laughing most of the time but the story incited annoyance (at some characters), and I was touched by the kind treatment she received from Madame Bellafraunde, no matter what happened.
Fourth and last, the eclectic range of characters. They were brilliantly brought to life. While I was reading this I couldn't compare even one of them to other characters from other novels. They were all original.
For readers who just want an entertaining light read, this one's for you!(less)

Sharon Page is the go-to author because in her stories she has something for everyone (MF, MM, FF, MFM) If you're looking for something philosophical and totally dramatic, then this is not for you. I liked the story and the twists but I was really after her writing style of erotica. It's really raw and explicit, definitely for mature audience. I liked how strong the Althea is and how vulnerable Yannick and Bastien are when it comes to her.
Ms Page really delved more into characters, Althea's sensuality hidden by her bluestocking appearance, Yannick as the elder brother burdened with responsibilities, and Bastien's good heart and his happy-go-lucky facade. There are a lot of erotic couplings here and I liked how straightforward they were, it's refreshing to read because they have sex/make love with each other for the sheer pleasure of it, and there's mild bdsm put into play.
Since this is a historical erotica and writers have their own versions of vampires, I just didn't like the traditional coffins where they slept. Apart from that, I gave this 5 stars because I was enthralled and it really kept me reading.(less)

I browsed through the reviews here before downloading this at Amazon, and I was really disappointed with the story, especially Cassidy's character. She is by far the most annoying and tearful heroines I've read about. I tried to place myself in her own shoes and understand how one would feel if one's life was uprooted from home to live among strangers, and to marry one due to an arrangement.
My only consolation is I got it for free. I haven't reviewed books since the beginning of the year but I felt the need to justify why I gave this one a low rating.
It has been a long time since I've read historical romance and the story pace was too slow and their activities redundant, it's only the latter part of the story where it got exciting. If not for that, I would've rated this 1 star. I appreciate the mysteries but I had an inkling towards them.
It's refreshing to read "clean romance" and I must say I'm not a fan of it. Their engagement was a long one and after confessions of love due to a life-threatening situation, the author cuts the story and proceeds with the epilogue.(less)
