I LOVED Alex and Katy in her other series, but Layla was just so annoying. She was CONSTANTLY being rescued and her love interests just weren't interesting. The guys were pretty much hot, and that was it. Roth was the most interesting character, and I still didn't like him that much. The love triangle was annoying and so were most the characters. The plot was mildly interesting and unique but not interesting enough for me to keep reading....more
Ok, so this is my review for the series, and be warned, I'll probably be comparing it to the Lux series as well. First, what a great ending to a serieOk, so this is my review for the series, and be warned, I'll probably be comparing it to the Lux series as well. First, what a great ending to a series! I thought it was perfect with so much emotion and tied up the series nicely. Next, wow, Armentrout REALLY puts her characters through the ringer. I mean, the poor heroes and heroines in her books just have every obstacle out there thrown at them. Don't get me wrong, I think it makes for a great story when those situations don't overpower the meaning of the story, and I don't think it did in this series. The books were SO funny and I was laughing and crying in the end. The plot line was really good and character development wasn't bad. Alex was a pleasure read about and all of her internal monologues and witty comments just made the series. I have heard from multiple reviews that the series is very similar to Vampire Academy. This is true, at least for the first book. The plot line and characters are pretty similar to those found in Vampire Academy, but by the 2nd or 3rd book, the storyline takes a complete turn from where Vampire Academy goes. And personally, I liked these better than VA.
Ok, so here the comparison part. Lux, for those of you who don't know, is JLA's other 5 book series but instead of Greek Gods, it's about aliens. I seriously loved both series. Both have their strengths and weaknesses, and if JLA could somehow combine the series and make a snarky alien half-blood, it would be just pure awesomeness.
Plot: I'm going to have to say that I liked Covenant's plot a wee bit better. There was a lot more action and depth to this plot then there was in Lux. Don't get me wrong, Lux had a great plot, but I felt like there was a lot more struggle to find happiness in Covenant which I think made for a better plot.
Character Development: Again, I'm going to have to say Covenant was slightly better when it came to development. Mainly because of the main characters. Alex developed quite nicely from a immature girl to a mature woman who knows the meaning of sacrifice. Katy I felt didn't develop as much and stayed the same throughout the books. I still really liked her, but she needed a bit more development.
Character Personalities: I LOVED Alex's personality, but, I loved Daemon's more. The Lux character's had some of the BEST personalities I have ever read about. I only really loved Alex and maybe Seth. But in Lux, Katy, Daemon, Dee, and Luke are some pretty dang awesome characters.
Romance: I liked the romance in Lux a little bit better even though Katy and Daemon's happily ever after came much easier to them than Aiden and Alex. I am NOT a fan of love triangles. I understand Seth's involvement, but I hate the love triangle thing and that put me off when it came to Covenant.
Depth and Themes: Covenant I think was better when it came to exploring themes and creating depth. Was it perfect? No, in fact, I would still consider both of these series pure brain candy.
Great series! Be warned, there are a lot of deeper and darker stuff in these series. I would recommend for older teens....more

I actually really enjoyed these books for many reasons. My favorite part of this series is definitely the dialogue and humor. Armentrout created such witty characters so props to her for that. The humor is just pure awesome. This has to be one of the funniest series I've ever read and I was seriously laughing through 5 books. The banter between Katy and Daemon makes the series what it is. These elements make for fun brain candy books and that's pretty much what these are. There is really no depth to the books, the plot is pretty repetitive, Katy gets hurt, Daemon freaks out. However, although this situation happens a lot of times throughout the book, I wasn't too upset about it. Daemon's protectiveness was sweet and makes girls swoon.
I really liked Katy, even if I think there could of been more development with her. I absolutely loved how she was a book blogger, and the jokes she made about blogging was awesome. Fun reads, I will definitely be reading more of Armentrout's books. WARNINGS: Sex: There are a lot of intimate scenes throughout the books as well as a lot of innuendos. Violence: There are a lot instances of torture as well as death scenes. Parts can get a little graphic. Swearing: Lots of swearing, you've been warned. ...more

I just save my 5 stars for books that have a little more depth to them. There really is no depth to these books, but they are so much fun to read. I laugh so hard while reading these, and humor instantly makes a book 10 times better. These are an awesome escape. There is a lot of mushy romantic scenes that do get a little overbearing but like I said, really no depth, and pure brain candy....more

Fun storyline about the kids trying to escape the evil adults. I felt like more should of happened then them just getting captured and escaping every 50 pages, which is what pretty much happens throughout the 2nd and 3rd book until the end and everything is resolved. Fun adventure to read and escape for a few hours....more

I really liked the idea and whole premise of the book. I thought the plot was interesting and even the dialogue wasn't bad. But there were just way too many wholes in the story. The writing I felt like wasn't that great and I felt like some of the decisions that the characters made were just kind of weird. But I REALLY hated the love triangle in this. I'm not a fan anyways of love triangles, and I only tolerate them if they are done correctly. This one was not, I really hated how she kept jumping back and forth and couldn't quite decide who she liked more. UGH! Some of the lessons about bullying I thought were really good and the storyline isn't bad. Which is why I'm so upset that the rest of book didn't do it for me. I really like the concept, and I haven't decided yet if I'm going to read the rest of the books. ...more

My absolute favorite thing about the Beautiful Creatures books was Ethan. He was such an awesome narrator and I loved being in his head. I found myself missing that in this book. I didn't like the 3rd person perspective and while Ridley and Link are entertaining, it just wasn't the same. The book is just OK. The storyline is Ok, I do wish that more of the old characters were bigger parts of the book. Who knows, maybe they will be in the next one....more

I'm bummed that The Beautiful Creatures movie was so sucky because this series should really be made into something. I think it would be better for TV personally. Anyway, I thought this book perfectly summed up the series. Lose ends were tied and the entire book was so suspenseful. I seriously got nothing done all day because I had to find out what happened. Ethan continued to be a superb narrator and probably one of my favorites. Even in the crappy situation he was in, he didn't lose his humor and I continually enjoyed all his witty comments about everything. I also liked the part where Lena was the narrator. I was concerned that she was going to a useless wreck like she was in the second book. Instead she was a strong character who was trying to keep her emotions in check while she solved the problem ahead of her. The character building of all of the characters continued to be awesome. All the supporting characters such as Ridley, Link, John, and Liv were well done and developed so nicely. I especially love the Aunts and I got such a kick out of them. The town of Gatlin was so well created and the entire theme was well crafted. I love the morals and themes of this book, love endures, sacrifice is necessary, live life to the fullest. The book was heartbreaking in the best way and I'll be pondering this series for the next week.
Is the story drawn out? Yes, it is also slow at times. However, I am ok with this because the reader has such an awesome narrator who even makes the slow parts entertaining. I highly recommend, and these books will go on my favorites shelf. ...more
