Ms. Calmes has done it again. I loved this story from the first page to the last. It's a heart-warming character-driven story filled with love and redemption as homeless Weber discovers just how valuable he is to the ones who love him. I admit there were times I wanted to club the man for being dense...that he couldn't see how important he was to Cyrus and what a difference he made in his lover's life.
Be aware that Frog doesn't have much in the way of external conflict, so if you're looking for lots of action and adventure, I suggest you look elsewhere. It does have a smooth plot flow, good character development, vivid descriptions, great emotions, bantering conversation, sizzling sex, believable personal backgrounds, cute kids and a great romance between Weber and Cyrus. I'll be reading this keeper again in the future. Enjoy. ...more

It's prompted me to take another look to see if my memory of how much I enjoyed it was accurate.
And I did. Here's the review.
The premise for this one is unusual. Normally the main characters in a romance of any kind have few, if any, physical limitations. To have a problem as severe as the one Andre is recovering from--well, it's off-the-chart's surprising. To start a new relationship while recovering from a life-changing health crisis isn't what you'd think would work in a romance but the author skillfully weaves patient and speech pathologist together in a manner that works.
Yes, there are rough moments for both men, as you can imagine. Andre's had a stroke, can't talk well and has partial paralysis. The author's done a nice job explaining the medical terminology and the recovery process in enough detail to understand what's happening, while still allowing the focus to stay on the growing relationship between Ryan and Andre.
But--Andre's limitations do impact his relationship with Ryan. He's afraid, angry and frustrated. And he has two sons to consider, along with an unpleasant ex-wife--and the author weaves them all in nicely into the plot.
As you can imagine, because of Andre's health, there's a lack of sex but that doesn't mean there isn't a great deal of intense emotions. So, at heart I guess I'd say this realistic story is solidly written, has interesting, well developed characters for it's length, and a smooth flow. I liked it and hope you do too....more

I can't really say enough good things about it. As part of the Bittersweet Dreams titles I almost passed it up but the reviews here gave me the incentive I needed to give it a try and I'm glad I did. At heart the story is about Jamie and him growing up in an abusive home (his mother), the realization of this gay sexual preference and falling in love with Darian. After six years it's too much to bear and he ends it all, leaving behind a furious friend and crushed lover.
Mr. Kelly has created three great characters and told their story in three ways. By Jamie's journal entries over a period of years, flashbacks to Matt and Jamie growing up and present scenes with Matt and Darian as they meet and grow into a new relationship.
The story is filled with pain, anger, fear, and abuse and Mr. Kelly has taken these emotions and woven them together with Jamie's family, friends and lover and turned all the pieces into a whole I couldn't stop reading. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. ...more

I’ll be perfectly honest; I rarely read historical novels, no matter who the author, but I’m happy I took the chance on this one. Not only did it introduce me to a new wonderful author, but it’s given me the opportunity to read this great series.
The storyline is written in two sections…almost like two stories, and Drake is the man who ties them together. I have to say I loved Ansel, and had a real feeling of sadness when he was killed outside Foray. I wasn’t certain what would become of Drake as he sank deeper into depression, or how Ms. Lorenz would go about saving him from grief. The introduction of Jackson’s character and his offer of a job was just what Drake needed…he needed someone else to help, someone other than himself to focus his attention on. And when I discovered Jackson was playing matchmaker between Drake and Logan, I liked him all the more.
There are few secondary characters in this story, but when they appear, they play a vital role, leading the story into an important new direction, and adding more depth. The most important of these are Tomas, Logan’s son and Joss, the young orphan who becomes Drakes page. The relationship between these boys and the men of our story is tender, caring and heartwarming, showing both Drake and Logan as loving fathers.
I can’t recommend this well-written and plotted historical gay romance enough. It has everything needed to make a great read…love, honor, death, angst, blistering hot passion, and the chance at future happiness between two intriguing and likable men. ...more
