The authors's expression of his fear as he runs to where he hopes it's safe is well done and him trying to be brave as he does makes him easy to relate to immediately. Nik is a polar opposite. He's big, dominant and nothing seems to rattle him...until Morgan expresses a sexual interest and won't take no for an answer.
I liked the Ms. Scott allowed an emotional bond to grow before they took they next step and had their relationship turn physical but once it did, it was sizzling hot.
The plot moved smoothly forward over the two weeks with some important case stuff going on in the background. When they reach the courthouse, the plot really speeds up and lots of story is bunched into the final pages. There is also a little jumping in time that distracted me a bit. By the end there are still a few plot threads left dangling but I'm thinking those will be handled in a later book.(less)

It reminds me of the TV show Bridezilla, with the crazy fiance who won't let her future mother-in-law death get in the way of her wedding. The author's expression of her over-the-top selfishness in the face of her boyfriends grief is nicely done.
The mystery in this one is good with lots is unexpected clues, twists and turns galore, and the usual quirky characters so you won't get bored. As you'd suspect, Marcy's shop plays an important role and once again the author pulls various needlecrafts into the story line, along with new and old characters as they wander in and out the front door.
I was surprised with the appearance of Marcy's ex-fiance, David...and is this guy a jerk, showing the reader how lucky our heroine was to have not married him. His scenes are nicely written, allowing Marcy some closure. The books pacing definitely isn't that of a rollercoaster but it's steady up until nearly the end. There it slows and abruptly wraps up, which I found rather disappointing.
One thing that's started to bother me is Marcy and the romantic triangle that seems to be developing between her and the men in her life. The juggling of the two, under the nose of the other, is getting annoying. Its making her appear indecisive and I hope it doesn't drag out much longer. (less)

His old-fashioned attitudes drive her nuts and makes for some good chuckles. There are plenty of red herrings and interesting backgrounds as this novice investigator works on her first case.Having her start off as a police sketch artist is unusual and unique, but I'm not certain how that will play into the future books. I didn't guess who the villain was until the end so the author must have been doing her job when she kept me off-balance with his identity. The pace isn't like a speeding freight train and it doesn't plod either, and the story is well written. I look forward to the next release.(less)

It's a romance but its also a police procedural where Brandon and Nick are involved in a task force investigation. I like these guys and watching them try to work together was interesting, but worrying about being outed puts a big strain on their relationship and eventually Nick leaves, almost breaking up with him. The author does a good job expressing the frustration of both men but manages to realistically work them through the problems to a solution they can live with.
Overall-the story is well written, has a complicated plot with interesting secondary characters, and is filled with witty dialogue, blistering hot sex, lots of misunderstandings between Nick and Brandon and plenty of action. Enjoy.(less)

The pairing in the other two books was typical shifter mates but this one caught me totally by surprise with the creative mating of two unexpected species...an Bengal tiger and a never seen before Asian elephant. I loved that Ms. Richards even had the other shifters in the book surprised by what Gordon's animal was...it was a nice touch.
Gordon is a sweet, mild mannered man with a troubled past that makes him reluctant to get too close to others, but his feelings haven't stopped him from being a good and caring doctor. I appreciated his willingness to be uncomfortable for the sake of his patients and that his human physical characteristics resembled those of his elephant...a little thick in the middle for example. His fear of hurting others with his animals size and greater strength is handled well, as is his attraction to his mate...which he initially fights.
Despite Gordon's fear, Grady isn't giving up on his mate and is willing to do whatever it takes to claim the one he's been waiting so long for. But they have other problems as well and Ms. Richards has nicely integrated some nasty poachers into the plot that they and the others we've previously met have to deal with.
The conspiracy to eliminate the shifters is found to be widespread and looks to be a continuing problems in upcoming releases. They have some dangerous men to deal with, so expect the action here to carry over to the next release as they hunt for Grady's kidnapped partner. Enjoy.(less)
