This book! It alternated between giving me a tight knotty feeling in the vincinity of my heart (lump-in-throat emotional? Check!) and causing shivers of heat (hot and sexy? Check!). Both Hailey and Sloan have fought battles and are still fighting them and are scarred, each one's reason/cause for that is different but deep down they are in the same kind of boat and that really shone through in this heart-wrenching love story.
Carrie Ann Ryan definitely didn't pull any punches in this emotionally heavy novella. Breast cancer, PTSD and survivor guilt are not topics you immediately expect to find in a romance novella but realistically they are topics that are part of life and I personally think Ryan handled this perfectly and admire her for having the courage to create the two main characters of this novella. I can imagine not all readers will agree with me on this but I don't care because to me it was a beautiful, emotional and realistic story. One of the most realistic ones I've read in a while.
My heart ached for the characters in this story. And it is be one that will stay with me for a while. ...more

This has also been the case with Carrie Ann Ryan. I love her Midnight Ink series and when I heard this Tempting Signs series novella she'd written was contemporary romance as well I grabbed it as soon as it released (June 2015) and then it just sat there...on my TBR. When I was looking for a quick read (in wait for a highly anticipated release —Kele Moon's THE ENFORCER) this novella jumped up and demanded to be read.
I'm so happy I did because it was a gem of a story. I really love Carrie Ann Ryan's writing. FINALLY FOUND YOU fast-paced, emotional, witty and dirty sexy. It was paced so well it didn't even feel like I was reading a novella.
I loved this novella from start to finish. It had humor, was fast-paced, had great characters, even the ones I wanted to hit in the face with a chair (you know who you are, exes and coworkers!), had a nice trope (ex's brother/brother's ex + friends to lovers) and was very romantic and sexy as all get out.
My only minor point of criticism was that I missed some kind of epilogue to see how Presley and Mason were doing along the line.
Of course I was intrigued by a secondary character, Presley's brother Ian. So I went in search of his story in the series and found it. It was meant to be because his book (written by new-to-me author Rebecca Royce) in the Tempting Signs series is for the Zodiac sign Virgo...my sign! Bought and on the TBR it is! ...more

First off, I loved the Gamer Truths at the beginning of every chapter.
Ash is bubbly, brazen and a straight-shooter. She lives her live by her own rules, save for the one her brother put in place: she's not to date his friends.
Vic is a veteran suffering from PTSD, a bomb expert turned IT tech. He's a bit dark and grouchy and in love with his best friend's sister. Sadly he is unable to act on it because of her brother's rule: he is not to date his little sister.
In a way I understood Porter's insistence on the no-dating-between-friends-and-family rule but it also annoyed me a bit. It was the driving force for the angst and conflict in the romance but at the same time I just wanted Vic and Ash to be together as they were so good together. Also there's a scene where Porter in my eyes goes one step too far and really hurts Ashley emotionally. I didn't like that but the grovel was sublime so I forgave him. And a lot sooner than Ash did ;)
Victor also had some groveling to do and I must confess his grovelingn was brilliant. It might have been some of the best groveling I've ever read.
The Goon Squad was back fullforce in this second book of the #dirtysexygeeks series. I really enjoyed the scenes where they got together and the brotherly banter flew around. I'm still firmly in the Wade camp as my fascination with him from book 1 just grew stronger in this one.
In conclusion: This second installment of #dirtysexygeeks really kept the promise that book 1 made. I loved the sh*t out of it and am SO ready for Wade's book now!
Favorite Quotes: “Victor tilted his face to the sky. “You know what I wish for?” He didn't wait for a reply. “I wish a woman would come into your life and make you stupid. You're going to apply every mathematical theory you know to her, and she still won't make sense and you still won't walk away from her.” Wade seemed to consider that. “I'll try not to blink and miss her.”
She laughed. “I love Wade. He's such an ass.”
Vic shifted on the bed until they were face to face. “No one is perfect.” He placed a hand on her cheek when she tried to turn away. “So, you've got to look at a person, see their flaws and then you can finally see what makes them beautiful.”
“Begging already?” How could she not when every time they kissed it felt like he was ripping something out of her? It hurt so good that it left her mindless, without ego or pride. Just heart and skin, and he made love to both with just his mouth.
Melissa Blue had me at #dirtysexygeeks and I bought this book a while back plus I pre-ordered book 2. Then it disappeared in my enormous Mt. TBR untilMelissa Blue had me at #dirtysexygeeks and I bought this book a while back plus I pre-ordered book 2. Then it disappeared in my enormous Mt. TBR until late one night there was talk on Twitter about book 2 and the author mentioned there was an office scene. You must know that I'm a sucker for office romances because for one there is a realistic chance of desk-smexing...my weakness! And when Ms. Blue confirmed rough sex and a desk would be involved I knew I had to start reading book 1 right there and then, so I'll be ready for book 2 when it releases.
Then I re-read the blurb for this first book and WTH had I been thinking not reading this immediately when I'd bought it because... H/H meet online (love this way of meeting in romances) and it was a professor/student romance and though I know there a quite some readers who object to that type of pairing, I love it.
So now for my actual thoughts on the book and author's writing: I really liked Blue's writing. She had me smiling on the first page and laughing out loud on the second. And as you all know as well, I'm a sucker for humorous writing. But it's not just the humor that got to me. The author also doesn't shy away from heavy topics as mental illness, panic attacks and something else I won't name as it would be a spoiler for those who haven't read the book yet. And she delivers this in small doses intertwined with the romance and sexy flirtations.
I really liked that the characters were "real", unfiltered and even flawed as that made it easier for me to relate to them than if they'd been filtered pillars of perfection. With all the emotional turmoil surrounding both characters and tugging at my heartstrings, I'd almost forget to mention that this book was hot and sexy. Scenes like with the audiofile or the one in the classroom when they first meet and realize who the other one is, were phenomenally sexy. But the actual sexy scenes were amazing as well. Just the way I like it: hot and emotional.
As for secondary characters there was The Goon Squad, which, next to Grady, consisted of Wade (G's older brother, astrophysicist), Victor (IT guy), Porter (engineer) and Oliver (cartoonist). I loved the sense of kinship and the bond that flowed through the Goon Squad's interactions. Humorous but also serious when need be. They're a great and intriguing bunch and I can't wait to read all their stories.
I had a sort of love-hate thing with Lauren, Eva's sister. One on hand she annoyed me but on the other I could also see where she was coming from. But in the end she was redeemed and I'm kinda shipping her with someone and I really hope that will happen in the series. (ETA: I had a convo with the author about this and she has other plans for Lauren and I'm okay with that)
Melissa Blue is a new-to-me author. Another one in the year I decided one of my reading goals was not to read too many new authors...yeah...uhm, that's working well for me :) But I have absolutely no regrets because this first encounter as definitely worth breaking my resolution for.
Favorite quotes: All she had to do was lift her hand to feel the rough brush of his five o'clock shadow. Just rise to the tips of her toes and his mouth would brush hers. Then she wouldn't need to breathe in his scent. He'd be inside her, using his tongue instead of words to soothe her.
“Something's distracting me.” He whispered in her ear, “I can stop.” “I can choke you if you do.” “Might like it,” he murmured.”
“You're slobbering all over my chest.” Her laugh was watery, but he just kept looking at her as though she was something precious. “Grady, I love you so much.” His gaze turned serious though the smile held. “Kind of picked up on that a few snot bubbles ago.”...more

TBR and I'm so glad I did.
I love this series and the characters in the family that forms the backbone of it. The strong bond, sense of belonging, the tight-knit family and the humor are the things that stand out to me and keep me auto-buying and reading whenever a new book comes out. I love, adore the scenes where all the members of the family are together and the banter flows freely and easily. And I adore the scenes where they close eanks and band together around the people they love when things get tough.
The plot was intriguing in itself and by the way it was mixed with the romance and character development. I loved how it was revealed little by little with small hints here and there leading up to the big reveal and the wrap-up. Ryan does this in a great way with every book.
Griffin is one of my favorite Montgomerys and I loved reading his story. As per usual Carrie Ann Ryan delivered a sexy and emotional read that I enjoyed immensely. I'm really looking forward to the next two books in the series, both of which have been subtly hinted at and set up in this one. ...more
From the first page of this book (and to be really honest, from the moment he appeared in the first book as Marley's smartmouth brother) I lo4,5 stars
From the first page of this book (and to be really honest, from the moment he appeared in the first book as Marley's smartmouth brother) I loved Chad! Beneath that self-deprecating, joke-cracking, larger than life smart-mouth is a sweet guy yearning for love and acceptance.
If you gift your characters with humor you have a very fair chance that I'm going to love your writing and books. Humor just gets me everytime and Megan Erickson definitely has me on her hook and is reeling me in further and further with every new book in this series.
The banter and verbal sparring in this one was just epic! I have no other word for it. I especially loved when Chad and Owen would try to one-up each other in making the other one lose control with dirty talk. Because we all know by now how I feel about dirty talking.
I had so much fun reading this book! Chad and Owen are such polar opposites with Chad being a free-spirited ADD type while Owen is rule-abiding and a bit OCD with order. They really aren't into each other at first except for the crazy chemistry attraction and they hate that they want each other. This created a wonderful (sexual) tension-filled read that had just the right amount of angst to it.
Oh and have I mentioned how sexy this book is? As might or might not be known I rarely read m/m romance. This has a few reasons but the main one is that most of the m/m sexy times, especially when not in a ménage setting with at least some female involvement, just doesn't 'do' it for me. There are exceptions to my 'I don't read m/m' and that is when the book is part of a series I love from an author I adore. That's what lead me to reading this Megan Erickson m/m romance and lo and behold: the sexy times totally worked for me and definitely 'did' it for me as Owen and Chad set the pages and me on fire and I will never be able to see a bow tie and not think back fondly to a certain scene in this book.
In conclusion: Megan Erickson has been added to the (short) list of authors that have the power to make me read outside of my comfort zone. I loved this m/m romance as much as the other books in this series and I loved reading Chad and Owen's story!...more
First 5 stars of 2016 as I just loved everything about this book from start to finish!
My first thought after reading the first chapter or two was: WhFirst 5 stars of 2016 as I just loved everything about this book from start to finish!
My first thought after reading the first chapter or two was: Why didn't I read this sooner?! Because OMG I'm in love with Megan Erickson's writing and her Gamers series!
Erickson's awesome writing style combines scorching hot and sexy with humor and emotion. This is my kryptonite! And she did an excellent job of having me go through it all as I could be all hot and bothered on one page and having trouble holding back my tears on the next. And I loved it all.
This book ticked all my 'so sexy' boxes! It had dirty talk, role-playing and even a bit of spanking. In a recent review I commented on missing sexiness, urgency in the sex scenes and this book illustrated exactly what I missed in that other book by giving it to me in spades. It was super sexy yet never crass or over the top. The sex was balanced perfectly with the characterization and emotional side of the story. Well done, Megan Erickson!
I adored the secondary cast as much as the main couple. Of course Austin and Marley (couple from bk 1) were there and I loved seeing them after their HEA. Sydney is at the top of my fave kids/teenagers in romance novels-list And Ethan! OMG I want Ethan's story so bad! Physically scarred, emotionally damaged and recluse are magic words to me when it comes to a male character that entices me but I also glimpsed care, dry humor and old school gentleman and that just about did me in.
It's two out of two for Ms Erickson with this series as I loved this second book as much as, if not more than the first book. I love everything about her writing! It is so good I just flew through the book and suddenly I was at the end. I read it in practically one sitting and that's rare for me lately. ...more

Thoughts to follow, no rating as it's probably a case of 'it's me, not the book' and YMMV.
My thoughts on this DNF: I admit I only sought out this book because of tweets commenting in how dirty sexy it was and I have a fondness for dirty books. Then someone (Maria Rose) commented that fans of Kit Rocha would love this book and I was done for. It went from wishlist to reading list in a mere few seconds and before I knew it, it was the next book to read.
Then I started it and admittedly I don't do well with extensive worldbuilding, hence my preference for contemporary romance over pnr and UF or fantasy. However, as with Kit Rocha's, I was immediately drawn into this dystopian world Megan Crane created as the backdrop for this romance.
Once the initial worldbuilding was set up the romance began and I must confess that I had some trouble with it. This was caused by once again expectations. For some reason I had built this book up in my mind to be something very dirty and it's probably a case of YMMV but for me it didn't reach that level of filthy, sexy dirty that makes me inhale a book and unable to put it down for one second.
Normally When I'm reading, I try to do it every single minute that I can: in bed before getting up, during my 10-min commute to work, in my breaks, during commercial breaks while watching TV, in bed before sleeping. Literally every chance I get. The fact that I was too easily able to put it down should have been a warning to me. I wasn't as drawn into it as I should be. And I think this mostly had to do with the pace and internal thoughts versus dialogue/action ratio. The only parts that would spike my excitement or make me read faster were the dirty bits and this may sound jaded but despite them being nicely written and somewhat dirty, they didn't completely blow my mind as some other sexy books/series have.
When about 30% into the book I started skimming to dialogue and/or sex scenes I knew I should give up trying to force myself to read this book and making it work for me...because it just wasn't... When you have been reading like a few pages a day for 8 days and you're only at 40% when before this book you were finishing a book every two days, it's time to admit defeat. I stubbornly went on until 47% but even the first full-on sex scene between Tyr and Helena did nothing for me. So hence my first DNF of 2016...at 47%
But I will reiterate that it's probably me and not the book so if you like post apoc with little dialogue and okay sexy scenes, definitely try it because the world is fascinating. ...more

I read this novella for Wendy the Superlibrarian's TBR Challenge first theme: 'We Love Short Shorts' and because I started catching up with this series at the end of last year so it was a two birds, one stone situation.
I met Eve in the first full-length story of this series and admittedly I wasn't as eagerly looking forward to her story as I was Jenny's (TOO FAST TO FALL). Can't explain exactly why but she just didn't stand out to me in the cast of secondary characters that were in that first book. But Eve's story surprised me and I ended up liking it way more than I thought I would. Hero Brian was completely new to me as he wasn't mentioned anywhere prior to this story.
The novella-length of the story didn't leave much room for in-depth character development, especially considering how little we knew about especially Brian and in the end it left me wanting to know more about them, their past and their back-stories but this being said I still really enjoyed this novella as Victoria Dahl's writing never disappoints in its sexiness and its ease of reading. Also the way the romance was set up it worked as a novella as the couple already had an emotional history together.
In conclusion: I flew through the story as it was a fast-paced, hot, enjoyable and quick read that satisfied my need for a Victoria Dahl fix....more

This was a quick and enjoyable hot read. I was drawn to it becauseof the younger man/older woman match up and I was also curious about this new-to-me author and if I would like the writing. I can say that I did, even if it was a bit different from the erotic romances I normally read. Yet, the characters, the sexy times and the story were really well done and I enjoyed the story. At one point I was afraid it was heading towards the kind of erotica I don't prefer to read but the author pulled out a HFN that satisfied my need for HEAs in the romances I read. ...more

TOO FAST TO FALL by Victoria Dahl - 4,5 stars I loved this story so much! I met Jenny in Grace's story: CLOSE ENOUGH TO TOUCH and I immediately liked her. In her own story the like turned into love as she was everything I expected her to be as the speed and cars loving heroine. She was genuine and compassionate and pairing her with Nate was a great idea. I also liked Nate but to be honest not as much as Jenny. He was hot and yummy but sometimes a bit quick to jump to conclusions. I loved the romance and also really liked the plot that was well executed despite this being a short novella. All in all, I really loved this novella and I'm looking forward to the next Jackson Hole story.
ALONE WITH YOU by Shannon Stacey - 3,5 stars It's been a long time since I read a Kowalski story, though technically neither hero nor heroine is a Kowalski but they are repectively friend/business partner and employee of Kevin Kowalski. It was only when I'd already started reading the story that I realized it was part of the Kowalski series and I'd skipped like 3 books/stories from where I'd left off with the series (HORROR!!! for this read-in-order obssessed reader) but I was already on chapter 2 so I just kept on reading. I liked this story but didn't love it as it felt a bit rushed and especially at the ending it went really quickly emotionally speaking. I also found though there was nothing really wrong with the sex scenes, they did feel a bit mechanical, I missed sexy and emotion-driven sexy times. This may have had something to do with the small page-count. What I absolutely loved was the story with setting up the pub so in conclusion I liked the story and I really need to catch up on this whole series ...more

Sort of review will follow soon, I need to gather my thoughts so it won't be gushing rambling non-sensical gibberish... :)
I just finished and am still reeling. In a good way...a very good way! This book! This series! These characters! This author! This writing! I just can't! It's all so good. It all resonates with me. It ticked all my boxes. I read it in fits between work and revisions on a freelance translation gig and every single moment I wasn't reading I was thinking about the book! About Casey, about Ilda, about the plot, about the super sexy sexy times. And even wondering why the heck hollywood and/or TV producers/execs haven't picked up on this series because seriously people!!! This belongs on a screen! Preferably in weekly episodes on TV so I can add it to my list of 'shows that are worthy of getting on my DVR-ing roster'.
Now that I've let the gush out I might be able to say something remotely comprehensible about the book itself. This is a series you really need to read in order. And I'm not just saying that because I'm a read-in-order-fanatic. The ongoing suspense plot, that is brilliantly divided in small subplots over the course of all the books out to-date and undoubtedly those coming in the future, is one that you don't want to fall into 3 books in. It's all connected and I just can't wait to find out more about the what, who and why.
In every single book of this series I've read Harris does an excellent job of mixing the suspense and the romance of this series. The balance is perfect! The plot is mindblowing and keeps you at the edge of your seat with developments and turns you just don't see coming and in this book the romance, despite touching some known tropes (that I LOVE to read but) that not everyone loves, also held some surprising moments that made me appreciate Edie Harris even more than I already did.
CRAZED took me through the complete gamma of emotions: fear, excitement, surprise, heat, joy, endearment, laughter...you name it, I went through it! The only reason I'm not giving this book the full 5 stars is because I felt the villain was not dealt with in a for me satisfying way...this was the only tiny, minimal, minor issue I had with this book.
That epilogue had me chomping at the bit for the next installment because this series is a definite keeper, auto-buy, auto-read, favorite! Edie Harris to me is the Queen of Brilliant and Addictive Romantic Suspense and I will shamelessly fall at her feet to beg for more in this series that is so good I turn into a babbling lunatic instead of a eloquent book reviewer! ...more

I made the mistake of reading a few reviews before I started reading and those reviews weren't good and had me worried a bit. Just a bit as they weren't from trusted fellow-readers and from readers I don't hve much books in common with. And it turns out I needn't worry at all as Karla Doyle once again delivered a sexy and emotional read with characters that didn't take the easy, cheesy route and had to work hard for their HEA while making me work for it just as hard. I can imagine some readers will not like Paige and some won't like Alex either but I loved them both. And their development throughout the book was done excellently. There was one thing I didn't really like in this book and it had to do with a secondary couple. In the end it worked out fine but it came to close to stuff I'm not comfortable with in my romance novels. If it had been with the main couple I would have really disliked this book.
I enjoyed this one a lot though and it was totllay worth the long wait for it but I really hope the next book will come a bit sooner as it is one in a series I love and I'm dying to read that story. ...more
