It's been a while since I read BEYOND CONTROL and BEYOND DENIAL, as good as it was, was just a minor blip on the Beyond radar. But from the first few words it was like I finished the previous book only yesterday instead of 5 months ago. I was thrown back into this amazing world of eroticism, toughness and rawness I've come to crave with this series.
I loved the main couple of this book!. They were so good together, so broken together and so beautiful in finding solace, belonging, love and passion in each other. In Six I felt her longing and craving for safety and to belong. And then Bren, Brendan Donnelly, the name alone made me swoon... In Bren I saw the quite strength and his craving for physical pain to dull the emotional pain.
But it wasn’t just Bren and Six, it was the plot written around their romance that was so intricately interlaced with it. It was the other characters, main characters from the two previous books but also main characters whose books are yet to come. All these characters are larger than life and yet they only complemented Six and Bren and their story. They never overshadowed the couple that was supposed to star in this book and I loved that! It was the expanding of the world created in the first two books with new information and new characters. It was the filthy-dirty, oh-so-awesome sex scenes that will ruin your panties. And it was everything combined. I have no words for how much I loved this book and how much I love this series!
This series is one of the few erotic romance series where the books mesmerize me so profoundly I'm lost in them and completely oblivious to my surroundings or time. When I read the Beyond books I'm right there, in the Sectors, in the Broken Circle, in the warehouse, in the garage. I’m there with the characters, feeling what they are feeling, being angry and sad on their behalf, being aroused to the point of overheating at their dirty, dirty way of loving each other.
BEYOND PAIN is another amazing installment in this series that has taken hold of my heart. If you would have told me 6 months ago that I was going to enjoy reading an erotic romance series set in a dystopian world, with love scenes that consist of multiple partners who are all not in a committed relationship together, with female on female and male on male sexiness, I’d have laughed in your face. And yet here I am, confessing that this is one of my very favorite erotic romance series because it is written in a way that it just works for me. Despite the dystopian world, a world I have grown to love. Despite the f/f and m/m sex because it belongs in that world, a world that just wouldn’t be right without it and the books wouldn’t be so amazing without it. Kudos to Kit Rocha for accomplishing this feat very few authors can.
Now bring me BEYOND JEALOUSY because, man…I cannot wait for that story to unfold!
And those of you who love erotic romance and haven’t read this series yet, what the F are you waiting for? Go. Buy. Now. Run!
Fave Scenes: - Bren and Six at Cruz and Trix's celebration party > OMG, the build-up is off the charts! - the scene with Lex, Rachel, Dallas, Six and Bren after the cage fight with Elvis > Am I still breathing? That was beyond hot in so many ways! - Ace flogging Bren > OMG OMG OMG, that's all…
[Bren]“You've had a lot of kids come through here. How broken is too broken? How do you know what you can't fix?" Coop didn't answer right away. He twisted the beer bottle in his hand, staring at the label as he picked away at the edge. "No one's too broken. But you can't fix a damn thing. All you can do is figure out which ones want to fix themselves, then give them the tools to get the job done.”
Her heart pounded as the full import of his words slipped through her. The precarious balance of their relationship had tilted. He'd given her the power to ask for more, had painted a magical picture with deceptively innocent words.
The sudden burn in her chest scared her. It wasn't arousal, but something far more insidious, more dangerous. Affection, digging hooks into the painful scars on her heart, and she had to laugh it off to keep from flinging his hand away and bolting.
His loose pants rode low on his hips. She traced her fingertips above the waistband, reveling in the way his muscles tensed under her touch. This had to be the way the O'Kane women felt when they were on their knees, smug and drunk on the power of watching big tough men pretend they were issuing orders instead of begging.
She'd suck him all night if it meant listening to careful, perfectly controlled Brendan Donnelly rasp out crude commands that made his voice shake. Each groan gave her power, even as it hollowed her out. She was wet and aching, half hoping he'd put his fingers in her and get her off.
This was what she'd never known enough to crave before, the thing the O'Kanes exchanged as casually as words. Affection and warmth, the quiet sensual pleasure of warm skin and his hand in her hair. She could rub her cheek against Bren's chest and close her eyes, and every touch would be a reminder that she wasn't alone.
Orgasm didn't slam into her. It built in slow motion, the promise of it hanging sweet in the air as she clenched in anticipation. Then Bren groaned, and she knew she was squeezing him again, but she needed more than the slick sound of him plunging into her and their panting breaths. She needed that voice, stripped of its bland control, growling obscenities about the things he'd do to her.
“You don't want to own my body," she said, the words hesitant, almost a question. "You want me to give it to you, every damn time." The expression of gentle wonder made his dick ache. "Every time." "Because it belongs to me." She scratched him, streaking gentle lines of pain in her wake. "It's mine." "Yours." He pulled open the button and the zipper on her pants and urged the fabric down, off her ass. "Give it to me." "Tell me what you're gonna do with it," she challenged. "It better be dirty. It better be filthy.”
If the party room was expansive debauchery, this room was...distilled. The hard liquor of fucking. Sin on the rocks.

He was almost blown up by a suicide bomber which turned him into a war hero and his injury led him to permanently resigning from active duty. His shitty chilhood with an addict for a mother and his past mistakes made him into the hotheaded and guilt-ridden man.
Daniel and Hope were high school sweethearts until Daniel put her life in danger and wanted nothing to do with her anymore after she got engaged to someone else while he was in military bootcamp. At least that's what they both have been led to believe.
Hope Walker is a psychologist at a women's shelter. Danny was her first love and now when she's in need of protection because of a mob hit put out on her he returns into her life. Hope is stubborn and compassionate and believes in the good she does with her shelter. I found Danny's reaction to Hope's place of work a bit excessive. I understood his aversion to shelters but to me it was too easily used as the trigger for the conflict between Danny and Hope. To be honest I thought he was being unreasonable about it and didn't get why he was so upset and ready to put all the blame on himself and make it all about him without getting all the facts first. Hope is actually trying to make sure kids under her care don't have to suffer what he went through.
I love it when I try a new-to-me author, start reading and before I know it I'm halfway through the book. This is what happened to me with Ann Mayburn's GUARDING HOPE. I answered to a call for reviewers for this book because when I read the premise, blurb and an excerpt I felt this would be a book I'd like. And I really did. Not in the least because of Mayburn's agreeable and crisp writing. Her voice and style are perfectly suited for this I/R romantic suspense with a reunion romance trope. Once I started reading I couldn't stop and whenever I had to (pesky EDJ) I couldn't wait to get back to it.
In romantic suspense it's hard to find the balance between the romance and the suspense plot but Ann Mayburn nailed it. And on top of that she writes amazingly sexy love scenes. Explicit and laced with primal need they are exactly the sex scenes I love to read. I loved the dynamics and dialogues between Danny and his friends, Boden and Omar. Despite the trashtalking that they use as a coping mechanism you feel they would go through hell and back for each other. I look forward to the stories of these friends and hope they have their own books in the future.
In short: this first encounter with Ann Mayburn's writing was a big success and I have another author to add to my ever-growing favorites list.
Fave Scene: - the guys doing tequila shots with hot sauce in it > priceless! What a way to introduce your hero and his friends - the escape from Hope's house > I didn't realize I was holding my breath until I finished the scene! - the shower scene at the safe house > holy smokes that was hot! - the scene with Rebecca and Danny > so sweet! Kids in romance novels are my weakness
Fave Quotes: Well, that settled it. She was an idiot, a masochistic fool who couldn’t wait to throw her heart back into the emotional food processor that was Danny.
She stopped so abruptly he ran into her, then stumbled back just as quickly. After glancing up and down the hall to make sure no one was around, she poked a finger into his chest. “Look, you don’t want to be here and I don’t want you here, but if you say or do one damned thing to upset anyone here, I swear to god, I will rip your balls off and shove them up your nose.”
Hope crawled over to Boden and a bright wave of relief washed through him as he reaffirmed that she was alive and in once piece. She placed her hand on his cheek. “Open your eyes, pretty boy. I want to see those baby blues.” Boden smiled and said in a weak voice, “Only if you show me your tits.” Hope gave a startled laugh and leaned back. “I thought you were dying. You survive this and I’ll find someone to show you their tits. I’m afraid if I did it Danny would shoot you.”(less)

Jeremy is Native American, younger than Tess and a dirty talker?... I'm sold! I loved this book and not only because of Jeremy. I also loved Tess. These two characters made appearances in the other two books of the trilogy and I immediately took a liking to them . In a limited page-count Kate Davies brought me an enjoyable and well-rounded character-driven story.
Of course, there will be complaints of it being too short for character-development or that the conflict was rushed but I thought it was all nicely tackled. Clean, crisp and without being over-dramatic Kate Davies handled the issues her characters had. I loved the romance and the story was, at the very least thanks to Jeremy’s dirty talk, super sexy. I liked how the conflict was solved as well.
I’d been looking forward to this story since I read the first story of this trilogy and it didn't disappoint! As expected LIFE OF THE PARTY turned out to be my favorite of the three books!
Favorite Scenes: - the pool table scene followed by the foreplay scene at Jeremy's apartment > so sexy and hot - the coat closet scene > this scene was hinted at in the other two books, I was really curious about where Jeremy and Taylor snuck off to and what they did and I'm happy to say it exceeded my expectations
Favorite Quote: Leaning down, he gave her another one of his long, slow, dirty kisses, leaving her breathless. He could almost patent those. And she could easily get addicted. (less)

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The premise was super enticing and the author delivered on it too. I loved everything about this book. The characters, the romance, the setting, everything. I especially loved the humor in the main characters and how it was counterbalanced with some heavy emotional stuff. I also loved how well-suited Taylor and Luca were. They had a lot in common but dealt with their respective issues that were alike in their own way, in a manner befitting their personalities. I loved Luca's impulsiveness and his "I don't give a shit" attitude. And I enjoyed seeing him, playboy king of the one night stands fall for Taylor. What I loved about Taylor were her witty and fun inner thoughts.
Sarah Morgan never disappoints! With AN INVITATION TO SIN she had me glued to the pages from the very first sentence till the last word and proves all those Harlequin Presents nay-sayers wrong! If you know my reading preferences you’ll know I like my books HOT, the hotter the better, and DIRTY, the dirtier the better. Harlequin Presents usually aren’t dirty hot and AN INVITATION TO SIN wasn’t that either, and yet it made me feel the same way my dirty hot books do. Sarah Morgan’s writing has something about it that pulls you in and keeps your attention and don’t leave you wanting more because it gives you all you want, even when there are no explicit dirty sex scenes.
Favorite Scene: - the scene at the opera > beautifully written, very sexy without any real explicitness it was an amazing scene
Favorite Quotes: She couldn’t keep this up for much longer. She was going to punch someone, split her dress and end up naked.
‘I’ve got moves that would make you weep.’ ‘I’m sure you make women weep a lot, but I’m not a crier.’ ‘I like you more and more. You could bathe naked in the fountain.’ He reached for the chilled bottle of champagne. ‘Or I could roll this over your skin.’ Her skin was prickling with the heat and she made a sound that was half laugh, half groan. ‘Now you’re torturing me. Talk about something else, before I melt.’
‘I thought you were trying to prove to the board you’re responsible?’ ‘I’ll use a condom. Does that count?’
Turning towards her, he leaned his forehead against hers and smiled that smile that made women forget how to put one leg in front of the other to walk away.
‘We won’t be expending more energy. This was a one-time thing. We’re going to forget this happened.’ He should have been relieved to hear that from a woman. The fact that he wasn’t surprised him. ‘Fine by me. But any time you want me to make you moan again, just tap me on the shoulder. My skills are at your disposal.’
‘Bene. In that case I take you, Taylor Carmichael, to have and to hold, to sin and misbehave with until too much hot sex doth leave us breathless and knackered. How does that sound to you?’ (less)

The reason I desperately wanted to read this book wasn't because of the cover, though it's a fabulously genius cover, it was because of the title! I unashamedly confess to being a dirty-talk junkie and when a title includes any form or the combination of the words dirty and talk, I'm a goner!
So back to the book. The title set a pretty high expectation prescedent and I hoped it would meet my expectation. When I started I immediately knew I wouldn't have to worry about it. Though it wasn't the filthy dirty I usually prefer it definitely was a sexy read.
The IM conversation and the start of the relationship reminded a lot of how I met my hubby (yes we met through internet) and I was instantly smitten with Jackie Ashenden's humorous, agreeable voice and her main characters.
I loved Christie! She made it onto my fave heroines list with her witty humor, her straightforwardness and her down-to-earth look on life. She's also has bouts of self-doubt caused by her inconsiderate awful family, especially her mother, but it never got all woe-is-me and I loved that about her.
Joseph was yummy. Period. He's blunt and bossy in a sexy way and he knows and acknowledges his flaws. He has ADHD issues but doesn't let that impede him in his going after what he wants, whether in business or pursuing his attraction to Christie.
Both main characters had their flaws, they certainly weren't perfect and ironically that's what made them perfect in my eyes, because I adore flawed characters especialwhen they are well-written, show their vulnerability and I can relate to them in many ways.
One thing puzzled me a bit: Joseph "met" Christie in an online game forum on one of his employees's computer and chatted with her a second time using said employee's handle...Later in the story Joseph has created a profile of his own but I kept wondering about how he did it the second time as the employee had returned to his computer.
I think I liked this book so much because it touched so many aspects of my own life. Not literally of course, it's fiction after all, but it had more parallels than any other contemporary romance I've ever read. This made me very partial to this story and its author.
I also beyond loved the humor in this book. Jackie Ashenden has a very humorous voice laced with a lot of dry wit and I've said it before and will say it again: humor gets me every time! Combine it with sexy and sensuous and I'm a fan for life! I'm so glad I requested this book in exchange for a review. So! Glad! It has made my 2013 favorites for sure!
Fave Scene: - the interview > awesome turn of events scene - Joseph's big grovel > so good! LOVED!!
Fave Quotes: Being at home watching TV or reading a good book was much more interesting than the endless round of socializing Marisa seemed to do.
Sex with Greg [note from reviewer: ex-boyfriend] had been...well, comparing that with her experience with Joseph was like comparing an original master to a copy painted by apes and then photocopied one million times.
Joseph sat back in his seat, composed. As if he hadn't delivered the kind of kiss that made a stone curl its toes. If a stone had toes. (less)

My Review: A world-renowned plastic surgeon and a roller derby girl/barista. This can only be lead to an awesome romance story, right?
I met Jared in THE REBOUND GIRL, book 1 of the series, as the jackass ex of the heroine. Admittedly I didn't really like Jared at first when he first appeared in that book but by the time I got to the end Jared had redeemed himself quite a bit and I was looking forward to his book. Through the grapevine (aka Twitter) I learned his heroine was going to be a roller-skating girl and this spiked my interest even more.
Jared is authoritative, self-deprecating and a little smug. Gretchen is frank and direct. I adore how the characters Tamara Morgan writes are flawed and far from perfect and how they embrace that while finding love. They make them perfect in my eyes and I love them so much more than those characters who are seemingly perfect and flawless. The flaws and imperfection of Morgan’s characters make them characters I can relate to and empathize with and it is the best way to engage my full attention.
I love Tamara Morgan's writing and her heroines and with THE DERBY GIRL she spoiled me with writing that put a smile on my face from page 1 and a heroine that was once again made of awesomeness. Gretchen was witty and outspoken but beneath her tough exterior she uses as an armor, both in behavior and appearance, there is vulnerability and a hint of insecurity she manages to mask with sharp humor and a healthy amount of brawn.
Both Jared and Gretchen use their outward appearance and/or demeanor to battle disapproval from others. THE DERBY GIRL is all about acceptance, for both Jared and Gretchen. And Tamara Morgan did a great job of showing that in the characters through their actions, POVs and back-stories and the romance. I've found that her books are very character-driven. Which is something I love. In THE DERBY GIRL there are a few plotlines but even there they serve the character development more than they are actual plots.
I really loved this second book in the series and I can’t wait to see what great characters has in store for me next in this series! I have a suspicion but Tamara Morgan has been known to surprise me so I’m not speculating much and will just wait and see. In the contemporary romance part of my (digital) shelves, Tamara Morgan and this series take top spot.
Fave Scenes: - The lecture at the community college > awesome scene and prime example of Morgan's writing skills. Oh and the aftermath was very sexy - the date at the derby game, up till and including the bathroom scene > I'm repeating myself but see my remarks at the previous fave scene :) - Jared's declaration of love > I was smiling through my tears
Despite him driving a ridiculous car, his face was one Gretchen knew well. Dreamed of often. Occasionally fantasized about licking. But only occasionally. And always under the most sanitary of conditions.
She laughed. “That’s sweet, but you can go ahead and stop acting like you’ve just discovered your dick and won’t stop until the whole world has admired it with you.”
Her friend Caitlyn called him a panty disintegrator. One strong look, and satiny undergarments all but combusted on the spot, flung themselves at the nearest unsuspecting passerby. Good thing Gretchen’s undergarments were made of sterner stuff. She had specialty no-ride hotpants—a staple of roller derby girls everywhere. Those suckers didn’t move without express permission from the owner first.
Ill-fitting swimsuits with untamed pubic hair creeping out the seams had a way of equalizing people.
Sensation crashed around him, her lips the center of the storm. He could have remained like that for hours, exploring the little jolts of pleasure that erupted at every tiny movement of her tongue against his.
His hands gripped her thighs tightly. “Woman, don’t you know that the only words coming out of your mouth when you’re half-naked and spread wide open are yes, more and, if you’re so inclined, fill me, you beast?”
“There isn’t any chance your grandmother is about to come home and tell us to get off her lawn, is there?” Jared asked, pulling back to give them time to breathe. It was a good thing too, as Gretchen had somehow forgotten the most basic of human needs as she reveled in the soft, sweet depth of him.

QuickScore-Verdict: Though the explicitness I've grown used to in Cari Quinn's writing was dialed down a bit in this novella, it still was a sexy read. And there was definitely humor too, subtle and at exactly the right moments. And though it was a very short story, within the 60 pages Cari Quinn painted a complete picture of the main couple in this character-driven, romantic story. I only complain about the shortness of the story because I’m greedy and want more.
I loved reading NO DRESS REQUIRED. It had the trademark Cari Quinn humorous writing style I have grown to love so much and I loved the trope. As the friends to lover's and best friend's big brother/little sister's best friend crush are among the tropes I most like to read in romance. I must honestly admit that I did miss the explicit, intense heat of Cari’s erotic romances but this didn’t prevent me from enjoying the story for what it is: a sexy and sweet contemporary romance.
If you’re looking for a quick, sexy read to get an introduction to Cari Quinn’s lovely writing voice, NO DRESS REQUIRED is it!
Favorite Quotes: She sighed. All in all, the day hadn’t proceeded as planned. She’d lost her car—though the cops seemed certain they’d find the perp soon—her dress, and her pictures, and now, her mojo was flagging. She truly didn’t want to abandon her romantic scheme, but this was Jake. She couldn’t halfheartedly seduce him. It had to be a full out, slay him dead seduction, or she’d have to try another day. Possibly after alcoholic inducement.
Noelle met his gaze with such intensity that the air sizzled and snapped. Surely that much blood flooding his previously frozen member couldn’t be healthy. But he wasn’t about to waste this amazing, absolutely unreal chance. To hell with shutting down, his body had decided it was all systems go. “We’re standing on a street corner,” she said quietly, snagging her fingers in his T-shirt and pulling him closer. Too close. There wasn’t a way for him to deny what she made him feel when her body fit to his. She boldly rubbed against the obvious proof of his interest, a surprisingly provocative smile flitting over the lips he ached to taste. All he needed was one forbidden nibble. A bite. An endless lick that started there and ended up behind her ear. Enough to last him until he could throw her across her bed and bare her body to his hands and his mouth. Every part of her, his to cherish.
“Hey.” His voice poured over her like hot, rich coffee. “You must be freezing. Why’d you take off my coat?” Because it smelled like you and I wanted to roll around in it like a dog on the first day of mating season.
The words caught in his throat. Words that would likely cause him pain if she didn’t feel the same. At least he could keep his dignity if he didn’t tell her. But he had to be honest, with her and himself. “I never expected this. I’m not ready.” What a cop-out. Worse, it was another quarter-truth between them. Ready or not, he’d already fallen. Onto big, jagged rocks that impaled his heart. “Because of Maureen?” God, no. Because of you. You’re so much and I don’t know if I’m enough.

INFATUATION is the first book of Melissa Schroeder’s I’ve read for review and the third one in total. I read her first two Harmless books way back when I didn’t even fathom reviewing the romance novels I was reading. So when this book was offered for review I grabbed it with both hands!
And I do not regret the grabbing! With a heroine (Shannon Dupree) who is strong, capable and positively a woman whom any man would want standing in his corner and a Navy Seal hero (Francis ‘Kade’ McKade) who is sexy, quiet and commanding Melissa Schroeder gave me an awesome read.
Melissa Schroeder knows how to crank up the heat in the love scenes. The start of the book set the tone and it didn't let down till the very last page and word. The added subtle hint of BDSM just made it all the more interesting. When sex scenes in a book give me goose-bumps I know I have a scorcher in hand.
And next to the burn-the-pages heat there was so much more to INFATUATION. Starting with the small, subtle military plot of a mission gone FUBAR and the consequences of that to the members of the team. But there was also great characterization and a cast of secondary characters that were intriguing to say the least.
Schroeder has a writing style that I took a liking to from the very first page. She combines heat and emotions with humor, great characters and fabulous dialogues, making this book fast-paced and character-driven. Reading INFATUATION makes me want to go back and start the Harmless series again from the start and review them all.
INFATUATION is an awesome contemporary, erotic and military romance that was such a joy to read, I finished it in 24 hrs while having to work. It was sizzling hot and emotional. The two things I always seek in the erotic romances I read. (less)
