Short enough that you can read it in one sitting, but fleshed out enough that the horror of what the vampires who run the blood farm are willing to do shines through. Kinda creepy and kinda gross, yet Sian and Taz still manage to rock in the middle of all of it. *thumbs up*

I pretty much dug everything about this story. I do wish that it wasn't serialized so I could have read it all in one go, but... I can live with that. I liked it. I liked that Lyssa has this thing she battles against. I like the idea of Thorne and Lyssa together. If they can work around their Alpha, that is.
All in all, a fun, fast, naughty read with lots of (you guessed it) potential. *thumbs up*

It wasn't terrible but coming into the story at book 4 left me without any idea what was going on or why Alex was in the predicament he was in. I'm always down for a little werewolf lovin' but... I don't know. I like my werewolves less rapey, more cuddly. With teeth.
That said, the writing wasn't bad, the story just needed a bit more to really pull me in.

While I can understand (and enjoy, in a literary sense) dominance games, their tryst in the forest felt more like sex by force/conditioning than something between a beloved Beta and his mate.
Which brings around my second point, I got the feeling from some of the things that were said that the wolves were choosing mates as well as bringing new members into the pack but... I don't get it. Orion chose this kid but he wasn't for him. A little more explanation would have helped in that regard.

I don't know if it was the writing style (lots of telling, not so much showing) or the characters themselves (the VERY canine mannerisms of the guy were more disturbing than sexy) but this book wasn't for me.

It's a nicely naughty (while still being very sweet) friends-to-lovers read that made me want more! And with the group of friends Kristi and Cam are surrounded with, I'd have to guess that there are plenty more stories to tell.
But enough about their friends, lets talk about the LONGING that Kristi's had for Cam FOREVER. She's wanted him since they were in college but she thinks she's "not his type" based on the other women he's dated. Meanwhile, Cam's got a hard-on for Kristi but circumstances (the two of them never being single at the same time) makes him keep his distance. Apparently, the stars aligned this time around and they were able to do naughty, naughty things to one another when no one was looking.
Bottom line: the book worked for me. I liked Cam. I liked the crazy eyes both of them got when they saw the other with someone else (even when it was innocent). The sex was hot. The friends were fun. The potential for more sexy shenanigans in the future makes me grin.

I have a bucket full of like here. My only complaint is that we didn't get to see all that much of Vikar's bear form. It's a minor thing, overlooked by the naughty sexin' and the sheer amount of blood Vikar can spill when he's in his Berserker state. I think I have a total soft spot for Berserkers. I think I'd like to read more books with them in it.

I can't remember the last time I picked up a sexy sci-fi book and this one made me giddy with sexy sci-fi joy. It's hard not to fall for a book with characters as fun as this.
Stone... Stone, Stone, Stone. I like his devil-may-care attitude and his ability to seduce the panties right off of Rose. Honestly, I just liked the guy. He might be a little rough around the edges but he goes after the things he wants and he doesn't leave his lady unfulfilled. I appreciate that in my sexy sci-fi heroes.
Rose is an interesting mix of minx and innocent. She's drawn to Stone and yet she doesn't want to give in because she doesn't *quite* trust him. Until she does give in and she realizes how very, very giving the former pirate is. Again, this is an excellent trait for a hero to have. I approve.
No joke, I am ALL OVER the idea of more of these books. I like the world. I like the characters. I like Cathryn Cade's writing. I'm having WAY too much fun dipping my toes into the sexy and I want MOAR!

There's a smidge of backstory about Rory being the nerdy neighbor, but otherwise it's all about how Melissa attempts to use her feminine wiles to turn Rory into a man-sized pile of goo. No, wait. That sounds dirty. She attempts to control him using her patented hand-job technique. Then they screw. The end. All things considered, it's not bad, just really short.

I didn't quite understand the significance of the Wiccan group that Jeremy is involved with but I'm holding onto a thread of hope that somehow it's connected in book 2. I liked the idea behind this story but it feels incomplete. Erol mentions making Alim bear his child once and then ... that was it. He did have his wicked way with Alim but, really, he seemed kinda peeved that he was stuck with someone he hadn't chosen. And poor Alim has Erol all up in his business and he's liking it but not wanting to like it.
You know, I don't really know what to think about this one. I think it just needed more. The idea is there but there wasn't enough story to fully flesh it out. Plus, I'm having a hard time envisioning how poor Alim is going to have a little dragon baby. *thinks about this* *thinks some more* Yeah, I got nothing.
Here's to hoping there's a sequel that explains things satisfactorily.

While there were times I was frustrated at the lack of communication between Cat and Jamie but I could also see *why* it was so hard for them to simply smile and let go of the past. They had both hurt one another and letting go of that hurt isn't as easy as hearing someone say they're sorry.
All in all, it was a nice historical novella with intriguing characters.

Torture, sexual torture, a woman who survives by sheer force of will and her journey to battle back from that dark, dark place she was taken to. It's not for the faint of heart. That said, I think author Shayne McClendon did a really outstanding job of capturing Daphne's fear and pain as she fights to pull herself together again.
It's not pretty, but neither were the things that were done to her.
As far as other characters go, Ryan has also had a tough life. No, he wasn't tortured but mentally he's just as twisted up as Daphne. He's a man who has done things that most people could never contemplate doing. He's a man who tried to do good things after his world fell apart and instead found himself in the middle of a nightmare.
My one niggling little complaint was that the characters said each other's names CONSTANTLY. Every time they spoke it was "Ryan this..." or "Daphne that..." This didn't *ruin* the story for me, but I did notice it as I was reading and I kept thinking "If you're talking to one other person and you're the only two in the room, is it really necessary to keep saying their name?" I will freely admit that this might be a ME-thing, though. Freely.
Dark but with a nicely powerful message that strength can be found within. I wouldn't recommend this to everyone because of the themes and the violence, but those who are brave enough to give it a try might be surprised at how layered and complex the characters are.

I always feel vaguely guilty that I like books were the hero goes through a transformative process (usually conversion to a werewolf, as it turns out), fights the feelings that another male rouses in him, gives in and ends up finding sweet, sweet release. But I do like them. So I'm going to go with it.
#NakedWerewolves can take their sexuality in any direction they choose in my book. Way to go, werewolves!

That said, the two couples who hook up don't mind having sex with other people in the room but it was pretty vanilla sex despite the voyeurism.
I did like the book overall but there were a lot of coincidences that happened to bring our two main characters together. However, at one point it was pointed out that sometimes weird coincidences happen and you just have to go with them. Which is true. Trav and Ariel stumble across one another more than once and once Trav got the courage to lay his cards on the table, things worked out nicely.
Fast, sexy, and sweet. A nice little story to get lost in.
