While on board, she encounters a young man who fills her in on the history of the town and the unfortunate incident of an older cemetery being flooded when a dam was built. Thinking the young man a little shallow and arrogant, she soon learns he is the grandson of the man who caused the town of Asher Falls to spiral into a literal ghost town.
As she meets other town residents, she becomes increasingly worried that she was brought to the town for reasons other than a restoration job. But she does find a few gems, one being an abandoned bait dog that she rescues and names Angus who turns out to be a faithful friend to Amelia.
While this second book stayed with the Southern atmosphere, AS manages to also create a deep, oppressive feel to the mountain town and adds in a few truly creepy characters. ...more

As action packed and fast moving as the rest of the series, this final book in this series was everything I had hoped for. Well, maybe for there to be more, but at least we have other characters to explore. ...more

The book follows three story lines - two from Jorg's POV - the main one being present day which also happens to be his wedding day, a flashback of four years ago and the third story line follows journal entries from Katherine, which help give a well-roundness to the whole story.
As most would agree, Jorg is a hard person to like but somehow you find yourself rooting for him and hoping he makes the right decision when faced with an obstacle. He shows signs of maturing in this book but still has is far from being a 'perfect' person or leader. Yet his unfailing desire to face all obstacles head on has inspired many of his followers who will defend him no matter the consequences.
This being my second time to read Lawrence, I am happy to say that I was not disappointed in his writing style. I loved it in the first book and loved it even more this time. He has quickly made himself one of my favorite authors and looking forward to reading more by him. ...more

Very entertaining read, with lots of dark humor. And the footnotes, oh the footnotes. I'm pretty sure I was reading them out loud to anyone who would listen. Quick, fun read. ...more
