Why did I read this? And am I glad I did?
I could tell this was a short read once it downloaded onto my Kindle. I did not know it was only 59 pages. I wouldn’t have been able to tell you that it was that short unless Amazon had it listed. Things moved fast, but I’ve seen things move faster in full length novels. I cared about the characters. I laughed. I teared up. I swooned.
This is another gem I found via Kelly. It is a testament to how much I trust her that again I did not put the book down when I came across a poorly structured paragraph within a page or two. I didn’t notice another one and would have missed out on good story.
I am without a doubt finding more books by this author.

Why did I read this? And am I glad I did?
This is yet another book I came across via Kelly. I almost put it down during the first chapter when Carly cringed twice in the same paragraph. However, I ended up enjoying the story. I have a hard time putting down books I’m really into and an even harder time getting back into the story a couple days later. So I’ve been reading more novellas at night and saving the full novels for weekends. This was steamy, a touch funny, a little cheesy, and overall an interesting start to a series. The fact that my guy is a car guy probably made this book a little hotter for me. Gotta love when it’s considered bad luck for your mate not to climax :)

Why did I read this? And am I glad I did?
After a mind-numbing week at work, I couldn’t bring myself to pick up Through the Ever Night due to the fact that I knew I wouldn’t be able to follow enough of the story.
So I started with a reread of Alien Revealed and was very pleasantly surprised to learn that more of the series had been released during my down time. I think I enjoyed this one even more than the first.
Tortured and yet strong female lead? Check. Strong male lead that wants desperately to help her, but may lose everything if he falls for her? Check. Mind reading and sexy tattoos (um where can I get those btw?!)? Check. Overall interesting plot and well designed intro of future leads? Check and check.
It’s rare and wonderful when I find myself wrapped up in the characters and mystery of a novella.
Highly recommended for those looking for a smexy escape. I’d start with the first in the series in order to not be too confused.(less)

Felicia rated this book 5 stars in all categories on GoodReads. She told me not to read it yet and wait for the rest of the series. I didn’t listen :)
You probably noticed that I did not rate it 5 stars. However, I think this has to do more with me not having read many (or really any) historical romances. I liked the couple. I loved the setting. I really enjoyed the plot.

I didn’t want to leave Hell
Why did I read this? And am I glad I did?
Sarah wrote a review for this book last week. I may or may not have been sold based on the swoon-worthy boy and this line of her review:
To put it succinctly, when I finished the book, my thoughts on the romance could be distilled into one word: phwoar.
I was not disappointed. I was hooked by the first paragraph.
On my first day at Warwick High School, if you’d have told me I would choose to go to hell for any of the students, let alone Warwick’s queen bee, I would have laughed. Or maybe I would have stabbed you with a ballpoint pen (it was kind of a rough day.
As much as I really loved this book, I’ll openly acknowledge that the fact that this is the first YA I’ve read in over a year probably had something to do with that. But really, I did love this book. The world was original and disturbingly well-developed. The author mixed the right amount of humor to balance the dark. The boy was 100% swoon-worthy. And the main reason this book got such a high rating… I liked the character development and concept of how hell encouraged (or discouraged) it.
The book left me with a smile on face and had me instantly searching for the release date of the sequel.

Why did I read this? And am I glad I did?
Another find via Kelly :) This sounded like a fun, sexy fantasy/sci-fi novella… and it was. While sometimes I read a novella and don’t feel like I need more of a back story, this time I did. Don’t get me wrong, it all makes sense. I just wanted more explanation. I enjoyed reading this (I even picked it up after putting it down for a few days), however, I didn’t feel a connection with the romance which left me questioning whether I want to read the next in the series or not.(less)
I put this on my TBR after seeing the movie trailer. While I’ll review the movie later on, I will say that I probably wouldn’t have picked up the book after seeing the moive. I’m not just glad I read this book. I’m forcing it on anyone and everyone. That being said, it’s not for everyone. There is a lot of cussing. A lot of gruesome scenes. A lot of emotional and social questions that mixed with the poetic writing style really hit your core. All of which was left out of the movie.

In Six Words too many pet peeves to enjoy
Why did I read this? And am I glad I did? My sister sent me a link to a book written by someone in her year at Harvard Law. She knew that I read YA and had heard her classmates raving about this book. I wonder if the people loving this book read much YA. I'm guessing not.
Don't get me wrong, the book has good bones. The plot was interesting and the mythology was well-thought out. The characters themselves weren't too bad.
So what didn't I like? The book is borderline novella, which I think is most of the problem. We meet the instant love interest within a few pages. There is a weird love triangle half-added and uber-rushed. And there is the classic, beautiful, smart girl that just happens to be home alone all the time so that there is no parental interference with the plot. There were other small things that I'm not going to nitpick.
Overall, I finished the book, but I wouldn't recommend it. But I seem in the minority.

In Six Words a grim reaper I'd love meeting
Why did I read this? And am I glad I did? After finishing up the first in this series via audio book, I instantly picked this one up. I loved it just as much(if not more) than the first book. Again we have a main myster that in non-paranormal with a good mix of paranormal mysteries and tension.
Charlie was as amazing as usual. Hilarious. Confident. Crazy. And learning more and more about herself.
As much as I love Reyes, I feel like I don't know him very well. I'm really looking forward to the next book. I've heard I get to know him better AND he gets some competition!
I'm thinking I'll pick up the eBook for the next in the series... only because I'll want the story faster.
Thank you again to Felicia for introducing me to audio books with this amazing series :)(less)

In Six Words: did not live up to expectations
Why did I read this? And am I glad I did? There were two main reasons I did not like this book : (1) It had been far too long since I read the first in the series and I did not have take the time to reread it. (2) The main character lost her umpf.
Let’s take it back a step… I really enjoyed the first in this series. I thought the characters had depth and a sense of realism that made the mythology work. I’m not a huge fan of angel themed YA books, but I was intrigued by the Upstairs, Downstairs, Bound, Fallen, and especially the Siders. I still am. To be honest the mythology was the main thing that got me through this one. That and Madeline.
I loved Madeline. Had the book been about her and Luke more and less about Eden it would have had a much higher rating. She is messed up, crazy, easy to hate and love. I’m torn on whether I’ll read the next one, but if I do it will be to see more of her. Luke is amazingly complex. You can’t quite figure him out.
That brings me to Eden. She seemed lifeless. I understand that it was on purpose… to a point. But at what point does making a character blah go too far? I wanted to know what happened to Gabriel, Madeline, other Siders, even Az… but I didn’t really care about her. I don’t remember disliking her. I just don’t remember her.
All and all, I finished the book in one night. I was entertained, but I would have rather been reading something else. And yes, I may even still pick up the next book.
My Recommendation : Go ahead and read it if you have read the first one. If you haven’t started the series yet, maybe wait until the last one is released and reviewed.(less)

fell deep into the devastating darkness
Why did I read this? And am I glad I did?
I really enjoyed the first in the series. I LOVED the second in the series the first time I read it. And while I didn’t love it as much, I still really enjoyed the second in the series the second time around. I honestly believe that if I would have reread the whole series or had read this right after the others the first time, this would have been a much higher rating. Much higher. I was still having problems reconnecting with Rhiannon and character connections are usually what make or break a book for me.
That being said, I still really enjoyed this one. Parts of it reminded me of one of my five star series. The pacing was almost too quick, but it was similar to the others in the series in that respect. It was dark. It was heartbreaking. It was humorous. It left you wanting more.

Holy cow… I read a book that wasn’t a reread AND I did it in a weekend!!
So I finally finished my Sookie reread and started the newest book… and then got depressed by it… and then saw reviews implying I’d hate the ending… so Sookie is going back on the shelf until the next book is released…
This led me to pick up something else. I’m not sure why this one came to mind. If I’m being honest, it could be because my Kindle was sorted alphabetically. Regardless, I saw the title and remembered how much I enjoyed the first two in the series. Real characters. Snarky laughs. Steamy alpha men. I was not disappointed.

Why did I read this? And am I glad I did? I started this in November. Yes, November. I was attempting to knock off more of my "series" shelf. I was "really into this one" on December 03... then tried to start it again on January 08... and then picked it up again a few days ago. Now I don't want you thinking that this was so boring that I threw it aside and forgot about it. I really did enjoy the story and holy hell was Reyes fun (well as fun as truly tortured heroes get). I was just in a reading funk and literary did not have make time to read.
I also feel like because I haven't been reading as much, I was more critical of this one. The ending fell together just as easily as the others in the series (or any other series similar to this one), however, it bothered me a little. Would I have been pissed if things didn't work out? Of course! That didn't stop me from thinking "Well didn't that come together conveniently!".
Reyes, as the container of the demon Pain, could not feel pleasure and needed to hurt himself in order to calm the beast. For those who read a lot of paranormal romance, the idea of shoving a knife in your leg to get off may not seem crazy. I'm not going to pretend that I wasn't fanning myself off during that particular scene. But imagine telling a co-worker about it... yeah, not gonna happen, right? Again, I think this is something that is only crossing my mind because I've been out of this "world" for some time.
I liked the characters. Liked the romance. I'm not sure how I feel about this series pulling away from the main characters so often to build the character for the other lords (for future books). I love this to a point, but it seems to happen a lot more than say the Dark Hunter or BDB books. All in all, I'm still looking forward to the next in the series.

In Six Words entertaining enough but a little predictable
Why did I read this? And am I glad I did? I had seen a couple reviews for this and needed an escape read. This did the trick. The dating service plot device was creative and worked better than I expected. The main characters fit into the typical PNR roles. Overly-caring, doesn’t-know-how-hot-she-is virgin and insanely attractive alpha male. There was enough build-up of the side characters that I’m planning on picking up the next book, but they didn’t take away from the main story in this one. A few hot scenes. A few fights. Nothing that intense. According to my GoodReads updates I felt there were a lot of flaws in this one, but at this point I just remember liking it enough for just entertainment.(less)
In Six Words entertaining, but wanted character development
Why did I read this? And am I glad I did? I came across this on NetGalley and having really enjoyed Poison Study, I was hoping this would be similar. I really liked the first half. I was disappointed when I had to put it down to work the next day. However, after finishing it, I was left feeling blah. The characters were missing the depth that I need to see. The world wasn’t developed enough to get a sense of space or even time (was it medieval? why did they have syringes and know about toxins?). Add to that, the ending was just a little too anti-climatic for me.
I hate to say it, but maybe Poison Study will be the only book that really grabs me from this author.(less)
Why did I read this? And am I glad I did? This series has been on my TBR list for years. I’ve had the first book in the series on my Kindle basically since I got it. Why did I wait so long to read this?! Was this book perfect? No. But it was a great start to a very promising series. The shifting of POVs between h/H worked perfectly to introduce us to this new world Nalini Singh has created. The beginning was little more repetitive that I personally like, however, that faded out as the book went on. I ended up staying up until 3am in order to finish this one.

This Book in Six Words bloody fights. complex love puzzle. laughter.
Why Did I Read This? Am I Glad I Did? I loved the first in the series and barely blinked between ending it and starting this one. This was just as good, if not better, than Something Secret This Way Comes. The fighting was just as bloody. The romance was even more confusing (as if that was possible). And there seems to be to no shortage of psycho evil vampires that want Secret dead.
Again, Sierra Dean shocks me with her evil genius. As if two love interests weren't enough to balance, let's just throw in a couple more. Even Secret thinks this is getting ridiculous if not a little slutty. But that's the brilliance of this book, it was NOT ridiculous or slutty (or at least not any more so than what I was fully comfortable with).
Did I guess who the bad guy was? Nope. Did I love seeing how it fell together? Absolutely. Did Sierra leave us with another ending that has us saying "what?!"? Of course. (less)
In Six Words dark histories, insane chemistry, slight cliffhanger
Why did I read this? And am I glad I did? Now that I use GoodReads to update my wishlist/TBR, I’m much more organized… except when it comes to keeping track of where I’m hearing about these great books. While I can’t tell you why I originally added this to my TBR (and pre-ordered it), I can tell you that Jenny’s 4.5/5 review had me moving it up my list. THEN she recommended that I go ahead and read it even though the rest of the series comes out later this year. That evil genius.
I really enjoyed the world-building. I loved the characters. I liked the action. And while I found a few parts to be predictable, it was more because it was a logical next step in the plot than a “how did I guess that!” moment.
Personally, I’d recommend waiting until December when both books two and three will be out. However, if you like a little anticipation between books, go ahead and pick this one up!(less)
In Six Words utterly unique with only minor annoyances
Why did I read this? And am I glad I did? To be honest, I have no idea why I decided to read this one. I’m not a fan of zombie books (well at least not compared to other paranormals). However, I enjoyed this more than I expected. I was captured from the opening lines (I was buried alive.) until the last page. I wasn’t sold on the multiple shifting of POVs until later in the book (which was the annoyance mentioned in the Six Words). Overall I’d recommend this book to fans of YA fantasy.
I’ll be picking up the next in the series and other books by the author.(less)
