It seems that none of his fellow officers have come to visit him and the State Police investigator is sounding as if the injured officer was actually wounded in a drug deal. With his wife also under suspicion Ali steps in with a fellow classmate to help out and find out what is really going on. Several more murders happen before the case is solved. I have always liked Jance’s writing and this was no exception.(less)

Set in the Pittsburgh area it features an FBI agent leading a taskforce hunting down child predators. After many successful cases she has two that put her in dire straits before getting clear and closing the cases. At the same time she gets caught up in the case of a missing girl that is the primary focus of the book. More danger and a particularly nasty and smart villain again puts her in harms way and her long hours are causing problems with her own daughter to complicate her life. I think this one was worth the read.(less)

Seeing her later at the baggage claim he gets a cold shoulder disappointed but still intrigued he continues home. When a wealthy business man is murdered in an apparent robbery in a hotel elevator, Derek is retained by the businessman’s brother to represent is family and protect them from perceived police harassment. When Derek meets the son, he decides to return the retainer because the son is a spoiled 30 year old who is totally absorbed in movies and is arrogant and self important and rubs Derek the wrong way. It the turns out that the murdered man’s girl friend is the woman that Derek met on the plane and would have added complications to representing the family. Long explanation here and so let me just say that in finding the killer the plot takes many twists and suspects come, go and come back again before all is resolved. It was a good read all in all.(less)

When the scheme and the men are uncovered the Presidents Chief of Staff and the Sec. of State combine to blackmail the schemers into turning over all the monies to them. Using a Dept. of State Security operative to carry out the blackmail turns out to be a bad choice, because he figures out what they are doing and works to bring their malfeasance to light. Not a bad tale, the writing is spare with one or two misused words that got by the proofing. Fine for a freebee.

Dan Rawlings is the town administrator in a small California agricultural town where his ancestors have lived for generations. He is writing a book, (fiction based on is family history) and soon to be published. He lost his wife in a skiing accident and is still coming to terms with that. But what really matters in his life now is the behind the scenes of a multimillionaire who has plans to separate California from the US and create a new nation. By rigging polls and elections he has pushed through a secessionist agenda which with the help of some renegade militias and murders of those who stand in his way is becoming a reality. Dan is opposed but events pull him into the middle of the state politics and at the same time working with the national Government to quell the rebellion. Well written and detailed this one kept me from other tasks as I read it to the end. Needless to say there is much more going on, but I hope this will whet your appitite.(less)

She is curious and does some investigating on her own and comes up with some clues that she passes on the police investigating the murders. Her ideas are not take too seriously however and she goes on about her daily life. One of the clues she had uncovered was a picture of a Chinese man who she thinks might be responsible and when she gets a chance to travel to China with a friend she shows the picture around and soon becomes embroiled with the police there and eventually the target for murder herself. Mystery and some “Commentary” on conditions in China and the political climate fill part of the book before returning to Brigitta’s rendezvous with her destiny. It’s a different book from Henning’s Kurt Wallender stories, but still with a dark theme running through it with Brigitta’s personal turmoil. (less)

Good quick moving yarn that kept me going till I finished in one night.

When the event is over it is found that the co-worker and hostage taker was killed by radiation poisoning and this sets off massive multi-agencey investigation into the source of the radiation, suspected terrorist connections, a plot to bomb Washington and Gideon's involvement, first as a investigator and then as a suspect himself. It ends up with a bit of a twist and Gideon gets a second opinion that confims his pending death from a congenital brain/blood vessel problem. It will be intersting to see how they can keep Gideon's story going.(less)

The owner of a brain research institute is being threatened with a lawsuit over the deaths of two of his research volunteers. He hires the ex-agent to find out whether the deaths were accidents caused by the research or murders. The investigation uncovers more victims and brings the ex-agent under more scrutiny by the FBI. Pretty good yarn, kept me reading with several red herrings before the final resolution.(less)
