TI closed this book for the last time and wondered, will I ever enjoy a book as much as I enjoyed this one? I'm sure I will, but it may take a while. This book spoke to so many parts of me and the things I enjoy about life, all with excellent writing and beautiful photography. I love all things British, I love nature, birds, and of course my old childhood chum, Winnie the Pooh.
Kathryn covers all things Pooh including a wonderful and detailed history of A.A. Milne and E.H Shepard. I never knew much about them, but I have a greater appreciation for their talents and I have a much great appreciation for the stories themselves. Kathryn also takes us on several walks to all corners of the forest and shows us the trees and critters that call this forest home. I highly recommend this book to nature lovers, fans of Winnie the Pooh, anglophiles, etc. There is a special place in all of us that would appreciate this book. Thank you Kathryn for inviting me along on this Expotition. You were a wonderful guide. ...more

Mike Dellosso is just about the best in the business at turning the relaxing hobby of reading into a heart-pounding adventure. Well written, thoughtful and imaginative with a great 'don't mess with me hero'. If I had to say one thing slightly negative it would be that the story felt repetitive with all the fighting and the running but by the time you get to the end of the story, you understand why it was written that way. I anticipated that being the case so I am very pleased. Now to wait for the next book!...more

So many I am a little tired of that genre, but Alice is my favorite author and she always knows how to bring a fresh approach genres that I feel have run their course. Under the Silk Hibiscus was simply fascinating. I knew very little of the Japanese internment camps that existed in this country during World War II and I loved the depth of research that was done to bring the reader into this sad part of our history. I also found that I cared very much for Nathan and his family and I loved that Alice took us from the internment camp into Nathan’s new life. She did a great job of bringing the story of Nathan’s family full circle and in a most pleasing way. I loved this story because it was a story that needed to be told and Alice Wisler is just the author to tell it. I highly recommend this one....more

Two neighbors who were meant to be together are finally brought together by a terrible storm. We may never have such a dramatic experience like this in our own lives, but it is amazing how God brings us through the storms in life and if we allow ourselves, we come out on the other end very blessed. That is what I took away from The Firefighter’s New Family. While I really enjoyed the story, as I always do, I enjoyed the comforting message that Gail has delivered in such a beautiful way.
One of the things that Gail’s books always allow me to do is to really think about God’s love for His children. Even when it looks like things will never be good again, God proves to us that it will be and sometimes even better.
I have been reading Gail’s books for a few years now and I have been noticing that each book seems to have more depth than the one before. The romance and love stories are always nice, simple stories, but the message is deep and that makes for a terrific combination. Ashley and Devon were such likeable characters, but I really felt like their children stole the show. They made for a nice family with a lot of warmth. I think Gail must love children because they are always so charming her in stories.
If you are looking for a nice, simple love story, The Firefighter’s New Family is the book you are looking for. If you want an excellent Christian message that will fill you with the comfort of God’s love, this book is also the book you are looking for. I love all of Gail’s books and I love to see that her books keep getting better and better. We still have one more book in this series and I can’t wait to read it. I can’t wait to see new love blossom and to see more of God’s love in action....more

He is one of my favorite authors, so I knew this would be a good book. Dan and Gary have come together to create a very readable and realistic story and touched me as I am sure it will touch others.
The Dance is a story about marriage, a troubled marriage. I’m sure there isn’t a married person out there who would not be able to relate to this story somehow. Every marriage has struggles and quite often these struggles can be resolved before it’s too late. This book hit close to home, as I’m sure it will with a lot of readers. I’m sure that is what the authors intended and they did a very good job with it.
I liked how The Dance was a fast read. Sometimes with emotional books, they can be a bit heavy and slow. I don’t care for that. I would rather get to the happy ending and find a little something to take away from a story. This book was good in that way. I think I am going to enjoy the rest of this series from this writing team. I can easily recommend this book to both men and women. Dan Walsh is very good at writing with heart, which appeals to women, but being a man, he is able to appeal to men as well....more

I like to read them, not all the time, but sometimes I just like to experience Regency England. I’ve never read any of Ruth Axtell’s books before, so Moonlight Masquerade was a good opportunity to introduce myself to a new author and get my Regency romance fix. I wasn’t terribly interested in the spy aspect of the story, but it was just part of the story, not the whole story. If it wasn’t there, the story would probably have been a little boring. The mix of romance and tension was just right and I found this book to be easy to read and enjoy.
I am noticing that there has been a proliferation of Regency novels lately because of this Downton Abbey show. I’m not hooked on the show yet, but I do like to visit the time period on occasion. I think Ruth Axtell has represented the Regency period very well in Moonlight Masquerade. I don’t like to read every Regency romance that comes along, but I am very pleased with this one and I am glad I took the time to read it. I would say that Regency fans will absolutely not want to miss this book and even if you are not a fan, it is a really good book anyway. ...more

Picture Perfect waIt seems like it has been forever since I have read one of Janice’s novels. I have missed her and I have missed the Galveston gang. Picture Perfect was very much in keeping with the feel of the Weddings by Bella series, so fans of that series will be delighted by this reunion and meeting some charming new characters. I knew from the first time I read “Go to the mattresses”, and laughed out loud, that this was going to be a funny book. And it was.
The timing of this book is ideal because readers will still remember the characters from the Weddings by Bella series, but new readers will enjoy meeting everyone for the first time. I really liked Hannah and Drew and their story. They added a lot to the overall experience and they fit in perfectly.
While Picture Perfect is very much what I would expect from Janice Thompson, it still does not feel like the same old story recycled with new characters. I felt this story and the romance was very original. I will never understand how Janice comes up with some of these funny situations or how she writes them so perfectly, but she does. I loved this book and had such a good time reading. I can’t wait to continue with this series and have so more laughs and see more couples fall in love....more

Not that becoI lived my first twenty-nine years as an unbeliever. A person can make a lot of mistakes and do a lot of stupid things during that time. Not that becoming a Christian makes a person perfect, not even close, but it does change a person’s perspective on a variety of things and that’s putting it mildly. I like to read novels about people who are every bit as imperfect as me. I can already hear it, there will be people who find certain things about this book offensive, but those very offensive things are exactly the things that the author has used to make the biggest impact. This book was not a light, fluffy read, but it was also not too heavy. There was a good balance of heart and drama. There are things that were difficult to digest, but the overall message of the profound love and forgiveness of Jesus is the whole point of the story and Carrie delivered it very well.
A lot of Alice’s story is told in flashbacks. At first I found this distracting, but the more I read this book and the more I thought about my own life, I found it appropriate. Since getting saved myself, I have spent a lot of time reflecting on things in the past that led me to Jesus. Much of that reflection has taken place from a church pew. As I thought about this, the flashbacks and the way this story was told, became much more meaningful. I wouldn’t want to read a book like this all the time because it does deal with some difficult topics, but I did like the way Carrie inserted some humor at just right moments.
I highly recommend One Sunday if you are looking for a novel that portrays the powerful love and forgiveness of Jesus....more

There was a lWhen the Heart Heals is the best book I have read so far this year! I have always enjoyed Ann Shorey’s books, but this one was terrific. There was a lot to this story, but it all fit well together. There was romance, some suspense, historical details all in the charming setting I fell in love with in the first book in this series. I like books that could fit in more than one genre. It keeps me interested. There is certainly more romance than anything else in this book, but the other elements to the story make it feel more real and interesting.
I think I have said this before of Ann Shorey, but she is one of my favorite authors. I always know that I will thoroughly enjoy any book by her. From the first time I read one of her books, I knew I didn’t want to miss any. When the Heart Heals is the second book in the Sisters at Heart series and it has been a wonderful series. This book is better than the first book in the series, so I look forward to reading the third book. I am fascinated by the Civil War, especially those early years afterward as this great country heals from the pain and I feel that Ann did a great job researching that time in our history. Any reader can tell that this author is careful in the way she puts her stories together and that means a lot to this reader who reads a lot of novels. ...more

I used to suffer from fibromyalgia and I had fifty pounds to lose until one day I made drastic changes to my diet. I lost the fifty pounds and the fibromyalgia. I have read countless books and I’ve done tons of research on healthy diet and lifestyle.
I was looking forward to reading Do This & Live Healthy because this author is new to me and because he approaches health from a natural and preventative standpoint. It is that time of year when so many of us are making resolutions and so many of those resolutions are to lose weight and get healthy. It can be rather confusing and intimidating if a person lived the way I did, not having a clue about real health. Dr. Verhulst’s book is a good primer for the health novice. He lays out the information in an organized and readable way, and he gives the biblical perspective to health. I found the book to be a little too basic for my personal use, but for anyone who wants a good place to start, this book is terrific. I didn’t find anything in this book that I took exception to and there is nothing in this book that isn’t practical and useful. Dr. Verhulst did a good job delivering a meaningful message that I think anyone can understand and use.
If you are looking to improve your health and you are confused by all the books and information out there, Do This & Live Healthy will be a friendly place for you to start. Best wishes for the New Year! ...more

I am so glad Waiting for Spring my next in my line-up. I never like to miss any of Amanda Cabot’s books. She is one of those authors that I know will never let me down. I always know that she will create an enjoyable and meaningful story and she certainly did with her newest books.
It is rather amazing that there can be quite a bit of tension with a murder and other lives in danger, but still be a relaxed and enjoyable read. Amanda keeps things subtle enough so nothing about the story is overpowering. She knows her readers want some suspense and some mystery, but she also hasn’t forgotten us romantics out there. Waiting for Spring is just a nice, interesting and balanced story. Amanda keeps surprising me by creating such enjoyable stories that never feel recycled or rushed.
I read this book faster than most books I have read lately, but at the same time I did not want it to end. I’m glad we still have one more book in this series, but I’m sure even after that, Amanda has something wonderful in the works for us. Sometimes the second book in a series can fall flat, but not this one. I highly recommend it, but treat yourself to Summer of Promise while you’re at it. ...more

Now, it may be that Gail’s books get better and better each time, but this book really hit home with me in more than one way. I felt a personal connection to this book that I don’t normally feel when I read a story, even a really good story. I don’t want to give much of the story away, but Neely is a character I can personally relate to on several levels and that makes for a much for meaningful reading experience for me.
I think that is one of the things I love so much about Gail’s books. She always seems to write very real characters and all readers will be able to see a little of themselves each time they read one of her books. I always find that to be true, but especially true with Her Valentine Hero. We all have things in our past that we have a hard time forgiving ourselves, which is a shame because God forgives us no matter what. Neely learns that very important lesson in this story. She also learns that she needs to give up control and trust God to take care of the people she cares about.
Even though the reader gets to learn some very important lessons, this book never felt like it was beating me over the head with the Christian message. It was worked perfectly into the flow of the story and the progress that Neely made was natural.
Her Valentine Hero is first book in a new series by Gail Gaymer Martin, so it’s the perfect time to pick up a copy and snuggle up with this warm and romantic story. I am really looking forward to seeing what happens in the next book....more
