To the point that I sort of harassed a lot of people to read it, and I'm glad they all loved it too.
I do see a lot of commentary about this having a 'Christian' vibe to it, and I wanted to say that I totally didn't feel this was Christian-Lit in the slightest. Rather, I thought it was a fun riff on the whole 'Chosen One' sort of scenario that we are all so familiar with in fantasy. Rae Carson's story is basically, "What if the Chosen One...sucks?"
ETA - listened to the audio. Just as good on the 2nd round!! (less)

Reminded why this is my least favorite in the series. Oh, Regin, I wanted better for you. Re-read conclusion. Gets a lot better at the end, but I wish there had been about 50 pages or so more of Regin and Declan flirting/falling in love. They were so serious and hated each other forever, and then suddenly they couldn't do without the other. Ah well. Any Cole read is a good read.
Original Review: I think closer to 4.5 stars for me.
This is a hard one to rate - I've been looking forward to Regin's story for so long that I think just about anything would have been a bit of a let-down for me because expectations were so high. And I really, really loved DEMON FROM THE DARK's hero and storyline, but not necessarily the heroine. In this one, I loved the heroine but didn't really love the hero and the storyline.
I do love some of the new supporting characters, but I did feel like there was too much Lothaire? Maybe I'm the only one that isn't crazy about him. I did like Thad, and I hope we see him in Kresley's YA series, and I enjoyed Natalya a ton too - when she came on the page I thought she was Lothaire's heroine for sure, but now maybe not so much. ;)
So I dunno. I guess at the end of the day, I struggled with the romance aspect? It's hard to put my finger on it. Like, "Gee, this book was so funny and I ripped through it and the hero/heroine smoldered and the story was fast paced and yet..." I finished it in one fell swoop last night and I'm still not sure why I'm stuck on the "and yet" part. Could it be because I'm not a huge fan of reincarnation plots? I'm not entirely sure. I'm going to pick through everyone else's reviews to see what they said. ;)
Still an awesome read that I totally gobbled up, and even one of Kresley's 'less' favorite books is still head and shoulders above most everything else.(less)

Kresley Cole is one of my favorite authors today. So far she has not hit a sour note for me. So it's no surprise to me that I loved this book, but it did surprise me how MUCH I loved it.
I should start by saying that the House of Witches aren't my favorite Loreans. I get a little miffed every time there's a non-valkyrie heroine. So my excitement for this book? Not nearly as much as it was for Regin's (which is coming in February). However, Kresley Cole proved me totally wrong - this book totally brought its A-Game and it's easily one of the best in the series.
Why is it one of the best? Three words for you: Malkom, Malkom, Malkom. Who would have thought that a vemon would be so sexy or so tortured? Kresley's never shied away from putting her characters in tough positions, and this book is no different. Malkom grew up a tortured slave boy to sadistic vampires and that was probably the high point of his existence. He's turned into a vampire (vemon = vampire demon) and then hunted by the other demons in his plane. He's never touched a woman, never had anyone look at him with affection or want or love. He's gone wild in the centuries that he's been hunted, covered in dirt and filth, hated by all...
And then pretty Carrow shows up and his heart starts beating. I WAS TOTALLY IN LOVE. From this point on, Malkom is the beast trying to get 'beauty' to give her heart to him, and it was A M A Z I N G. /fangirl
Soooo good. I closed it and immediately wanted to start reading it again. That's when you know it's an awesome read.(less)

Enjoyed it thoroughly, though I do think, upon retrospect, that it's one of the weaker books in the series. Still loved it a lot. Even KC's weakest is still better than most people's strongest.
Sigh. A great read - couldn't put it down. Lucia and Garreth (especially Garreth!) are one of my favorite couples in the series.

Murdoch and Danii are kind of cruel to each other, though I'm still in love with the ice-princess/untouchable heroine concept. Lot of fun.
Original Review: Kresley Cole - loved the ice fae stuff. Loved the untouchable heroine. Sexy and inventive. Not my favorite KC book, but still a solid winner and one I'll read again.
Gena Showalter - Hot and sexy and fun! The Alien Huntress series is a little overlooked, IMO, but great reads.(less)

Rydstrom was one of the more high-handed and arrogant males in this series, though. I think if Sabine (and Lanthe!) hadn't been quite so awesome, this book wouldn't have gone over nearly as well as it did. But, yanno, Sabine and Lanthe were awesome.

Or that they're mostly house-bound for most of the book? Not sure. I love how Kresley takes two extremely opposite characters and makes them exactly what the other needs, though.
Goes without saying - awesome read. It's also fun to see how many bits and pieces she hints at along the way of other stories that are being told or have not been told yet. Like at the Liv der Lanking/Liver Spanking, it's mentioned that a few people find their mates at that party. And Uilleam and Munro are there, which makes me wonderrrrrrrrrrrrrr....(less)

I think I like the concept of Sascha and Lucas more than I liked the book, but it was a fun read and the worldbuilding is awesome. I might have to re-read a few others in the series. :) I do remember reading this one back when it first came out and being blown away at how intense the romance was.(less)
