Both had come from abusive situations and were struggling to overcome them. It's a plotline we've all seen before and yet Kate Laurens' novel stood out among the crowd.
I'm not really sure why this one stood out. I think it was the whole package. I really liked Serena and Alex's characters and thought that Kate did a great job crafting them. I also really enjoyed watching the two of them interact. They were pretty much attracted to each other from the get-go which can really bug me; however, in this case, it didn't feel all that unnatural and Kate did a great job of developing their relationship. They had great chemistry. Serena and Alex chose very different ways to deal with their problems. Some weren't necessarily the healthiest, but I loved watching them grow.
This novel is New Adult and is definitely not intended for young audiences. There are several sexual scenes, none are too graphic, but they aren't exactly innocent either. There are also some instances of strong language as well.
I thought that the manner in which Kate developed her story was masterfully done. I can't wait to read the other two in the series and plan on immediately buying them when they come out
I would recommend this to fans of romance, New Adult fans, and people who like reading about grittier or darker issues. Lovely story that was cute, poignant, and entertaining.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: After reading Beautiful Disaster, I finished the book with mixed feelings. It seems like people either hate or love that book. There was no in-between. I left uncertain about how I thought about Travis and Abby as characters. I thought the writing was beautiful, however.
So when I saw the chance to review Walking Disaster, I decided I would. Let me start out by saying this: Travis is not a great guy. He fights, he throws things, he's jealous, controlling, and at times a complete idiot. However, Travis is not abusive. Having said that, there's no way in heck I would ever want anybody I know dating him.
Okay now that I've addressed that Travis is not at all role-model for people, I hope people won't slam my review.
Like I said, I really enjoyed this novel. It was beautifully written. Granted, I was frustrated the whole time, but it was a great book.
I loved watching Travis and Abby's interactions and hearing Travis's side of the story made me like him more than I thought was possible. I'm not excusing his behavior, but knowing why he acted the way he did helped me feel more sympathetic toward him.
Travis might not be the ideal guy. In fact, he's far from it. But deep down, he has a good heart and isn't a bad guy. I know people are worried about the message this book is sending young girls (ie: you can change a guy, rough guys around the edges have good hearts) and feel like it will lead to abusive situations. However, not to bash any books here, but a lot of novels send terrible messages and present it as normal or good. (ie: Hunger Games, Twilight, etc.)
So yes this book might give girls the wrong idea; however, it also is a well-written novel that is intriguing and great novel. Travis is far from perfect but I really loved hearing his story.
This novel is not plot-driven; rather the reader gets to live inside Travis's mind and hear his thoughts about what's happening. If you haven't read Beautiful Disaster, you will be completely lost. Read Beautiful Disaster first. It was a more lyrical style but I really enjoyed it.
So why 4 stars? It wasn't my favorite novel ever, but it was well-written. I felt like the novel ran a little bit long at times and it just lacked that extra something to make it a 5 but it was still an enjoyable read.
In Summary: Walking Disaster and its companion novel Beautiful Disaster are controversial books and people's opinions about them vary. I, however, really enjoyed reading this novel. It was an entertaining book and I don't think it leads to girls wanting abusive relationships. This book isn't for everybody, but I'm glad I read it.
Warnings/Side-notes: It's a New Adult novel and is definitely made for more mature readers. Several sexual references and mentions of drinking and drugs. These references are not graphic, but they are also not meant for young readers.
The Wrap-up: A controversial book that isn't meant for everybody, but I enjoyed it. It's definitely a book that people love or hate. If it sounds like your cup of tea, then give it a shot. I'm glad I did.

An Overview of the Novel: Allai doesn't remember much about her past, but she does remember Drake, a demon, trying to kill her. But she also remembers him protecting her and promising never to harm her. The two images are impossible to reconcile.
But then she finds out that she is a Mage, a powerful magician. Suddenly her dad wants her dead and she realizes her entire life is a lie. She has no choice but to trust Drake with her safety, but can she really trust him?
My Overall Thoughts/Impressions:I'm not sure how to rate this book. I enjoyed the plot and the overall story idea. It was original and unlike so many of the books I've read before. It definitely caught my attention and held it for the entire novel.
I also really liked the characters Allai and Drake. I know some people didn't think they were well-developed but I did. I really liked watching them interact and enjoyed seeing them progress through out the novel.
So basically, I love the storyline and the plot and the characters. I did feel like the writing was a little rushed at spots and that it could have been edited better. I also felt like the novel should have been longer. I was just barely connecting with the story and the characters and was just barely getting into the story when it ended.
I would have liked to see more conflicts, more growth from the characters, and just more period.
I do feel like it was a great start to a great series though. And I'm definitely intrigued to see what happens to these fascinating characters.
So Why 3.5 out of 5 stars? Because like I mentioned earlier, it felt rushed at times and I would have liked things to be more developed. The plot and the characters were really intriguing. I give characters and plot a 4/5, the writing a 3.
In Summary: Olivia's debut novel is an intriguing look into a paranormal world that will sweep readers off their feet. The writing felt rushed at times and I wish there would have been more room for growth. However, I still really liked the novel.
Warnings/Side-notes: I don't feel like I need to warn anybody about anything in this book. It was really clean.
Wrap-up: I really liked this novel. It was original and intriguing. I'm glad I read this one and think that readers will enjoy it. It's flawed, but hey if you search hard enough every book is. This is a series I will definitely be keeping tuned into. I really want to know what happens next as well.

An Overview of the Novel: Clary was determined not to get involved with the Shadowhunters, but that plan doesn't really plan out. When people discover Jace is Valentine's son, they stop approving of him and declare him a traitor.
It's up to Clary to make sure Jace doesn't do anything rash. But that proves to be a little more than difficult. After all Jace is her brother, she can't love him. And yet she can't not love him.
Clary is determined to help her mother too. Her mother is still in a coma and shows no sign of waking up. Plus, Valentine is out there wrecking havoc. But where do Jace's loyalties really lie? To the Shadowhunters or to their father?
My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: I kept hearing that I needed to read this series from so many people that I finally decided to read the series. I read the first one in the series awhile ago and just barely got to this one.
I will admit to being pleasantly surprised. I actually really enjoyed this one. It did feel like a little bit of a bridge novel; however, it successfully avoided the sophomore slump.
I still really like Jace, but the idea of Clary and him still liking each other kind of creeped me out. That's partly why I didn't read this book, but I decided to read it anyway.
I'm glad I did. I really enjoyed the novel and am pleasantly surprised by the Jace and Clary angle.
I liked Simon a lot, but I just don't see him with Clary. I hope he does get a girl though.
Basically, I did enjoy this one and am curious to read the next in the series. I have all sorts of guesses as to what happens next.
So why 3.5 out of 5 stars? It was enjoyable, but it just lacked that extra something to really stand out in my mind. I did like it, however, and am excited to read the next one.
In Summary: An original, compelling tale that has me intrigued to find out what will happen next. Definitely recommend to fans of paranormal fantasy (but then again, you have probably all already read this).
The Wrap-up: Like I said, I can't wait to read the next one. I'm curious to see where this series goes. I really hope my suspicions are right and that I don't end up hating the series. :)

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: I have such mixed feelings about this book and this series as a whole. I really wanted to like this novel and yet going into this novel I really thought I might hate it. I hadn't really read anybody's reviews about it, but I just had really mixed feelings. That could partly because I love retellings about Persephone and this is one of the more drastically different than the original story.
I really wanted to like Cole and yet he kept being an idiot and doing things that made me want to hate him. And then there was Nikki. I really disliked her as a character and yet she intrigued me.
The story was well-written, the characters were well-developed, and the story was paced well. It kept me guessing and then there was that ending. The ending left me so frustrated. I'm excited to read the next one in the series and can't wait to see how Brodi finishes the series off. I will admit to feeling really anxious about how she will end the series, but I'm still excited.
That's why rating this novel is so hard. It just rubs me the wrong way. There's no reason I shouldn't like it. The novel is incredible it just bugs me. However, I'll look past that and give it 4 stars.

I just never liked Steve and Sophie together for one thing and after that it was just really hard to get into the book.
I know so many people who really liked this one. I did read the series out of order, so maybe if I hadn't I would have liked this one better. Some other readers have said that it would be hard to review this one without reading the first book in the series.
However, I actually felt like Nicky did a great job at filling in readers without info dumping. I never felt lost and I quickly caught the gist of Dan and Sophie's past relationship. So honestly, I'm not sure if I would have liked it better if I had read the first one or not.
The writing was actually quite good most of the time, but I just couldn't get drawn into the story.
However, like I said several other people really liked the novel. So maybe I'm just weird, but personally I wouldn't recommend it to most people. If you like romantic novels, then you might still enjoy this one. And who knows if you read it in order maybe you'll understand and like it better. (less)

An Overview of the Novel: Becca has just finished a tough year. Her mother had died and of course when her friend Molly dropped out of law school it didn't help the cause.
She needs a break from Boston, so when Molly suggests she head to North Carolina for the summer, she jumps at the chance. But things don't go exactly as she planned. First, her car breaks down and then meets a cop named Gavin, who seemingly wants nothing to do with her.
But Gavin has wounds in his past too. An injury ruined his baseball career and the girl he loved left him. Just when he thinks he found love with Molly, she marries somebody else.
And now he finds himself falling for Molly's best friend and he just can't deal with that. He's had a northern girl break his heart before, then there was Molly, and now Becca is in line to break his heart.
Becca isn't looking for romance, but she's drawn to Gavin. They both have a past they need to deal with before they can fall in love with. The question is wehther they are willing to sacrifice for love and to give it a chance.
My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: I loved Gavin in the first novel and was saddened when Molly didn't choose him. However, I loved getting to know Gavin better in this book. I also loved being better introduced to Molly's friend Becca.
I loved Gavin, even when he was being a jerk. Becca and Gavin were two characters that I loved reading about. I enjoyed reading the first book in the series, but I loved reading this one.
Alyssa is a great writer and she has definitely made me excited to read the third one in the series. Alyssa makes her characters seem so realistic and they definitely are intriguing to read about.
Alyssa's writing in this novel was incredible. This was easily one of my favorites by her. Becca and Gavin are easily some of my favorite characters in the New Adult genre. I definitely recommend this book.
So why 4 out of 5 stars? It was beautifully written and I loved the characters. It could have had more depth, but it was still an intriguing novel that I really enjoyed. If you like New Adult novels then definitely check this one out.
In Summary: A beautifully written book that I really enjoyed. I definitely recommend that you all go out and buy this one. Alyssa is a great writer and you won't be disappointed by it.
Warnings/Side-notes: It's New Adult and as such is meant to be read by more mature readers. It's on the tamer side of New Adult.
The Wrap-up: I really loved this novel. The characters are beautifully developed and the plot was intriguing. Alyssa is always a great writer and this one was no difference. I loved this novel. I definitely recommend it.
Disclaimers: I received an electronic copy of this novel from the author in exchange for my honest opinion.
An Overview of the Novel: Amelia and Adam's dreams are beginning to come true. Tom Fenway is giving Amelia the means to actually make a business out of her product and even though she was anti-business to start.
But when people from the past start threatening the twins, Amelia and Adam realize they might just have got themselves in over their heads. As Amelia continues to work on the coding, forces continue to conspire against them.
They are in a tangled web so deep that it threatens to burst at any second. The only question is who will be left standing at the end of the day.
My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: I really enjoyed the first novel in the series so I went in with high expectations and I wasn't disappointed. I continued to love Amelia's character. I'm anything but a computer programmer, but I found it easy to connect with her character.
Adam continued to frustrate me, but I still really like him. And there are all the secondary character's whose lives have me completely floored. I'm just not sure what to think about them.
Several of them are weaving such tangled webs and I'm honestly just waiting until they explode. And then there are the characters who are sitting on the fence of being bad or good and I really just can't decide what to think of them.
Basically, Sadie is a master at crafting characters and a plot that transfixes me. Her writing is beautiful, her characters compelling, and her plot is so intriguing that readers won't want to put it down.
So Why 4 out of 5 stars? Although I really liked this story, it missed making it into my all-time favs. However, I did really enjoy this novel and am glad I read it.
In Summary: Sadie Hayes' second novel offers readers a glimpse into a world where betrayal, deceit, and innovation run rampant. Readers will fall in love with this world and will be waiting to see the thrilling conclusion.
The Wrap-up: I for one can't wait to see what happens next. Adam and Amelia's stories are gripping and I will definitely be keeping close tabs on this author. I'm not entirely sure what's going on with Sadie Hayes' story right now. However, I'll be curiously waiting to find out.
I definitely recommend this series and when I found out what's going on I'll post that here.

An Overview of the Novel: Cassie was instantly attracted to Jack Carter when she saw him and then he opened his mouth. She quickly realized he was a cocky jerk who was used to getting what he wanted. And she wasn't going to be the next girl he used and then dumped within a day. So when he makes his interest in her known she is quick to let him know that she is not interested.
Jack is intrigued by Cassie. He's not used to girls rebuffing him and he sets out to win Cassie. But when he does, he just might be in danger of falling for her.
But Cassie is guarded. Her father made a lot of promises he couldn't keep and Cassie isn't about to trust a guy who cheats or lies. Jack's about to find out if he can break down Cassie's barriers without breaking her rules. Because if he breaks Cassie's rules, he knows he's out the door.
My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: I had read a book by J. Sterling before and loved it. It was nothing like this book though. I enjoyed both styles of her writing.
I was actually drawn into the story rather quickly. It took a few pages but after that I was hooked. I found Cassie and Jack's characters to be really intriguing and the chemistry between them was undeniable. I kept wondering what would happen between these two characters.
To be honest, I was actually surprised I ended up liking Jack because he definitely had a lot of qualities I didn't like. I enjoyed how we were able to see the characters interact and I loved that I got to read from both character's perspectives.
J. Sterling is a great author and I will definitely be interested in reading more from her.
So Why 4 out of 5 stars? I really enjoyed the novel; however, it wasn't my favorite in this genre. However, it was very good and I would still recommend it to fans of this genre.
In Summary: J. Sterling's The Perfect Game is the perfect mix of romance and sports to catch my interest. She creates compelling characters and places them in an intriguing plot to make this novel an enjoyable read.
Warnings/Side-notes: It's new adult. It's tamer than several of the new adult books I've read; however, this one is still meant for mature teenagers/adults.
The Wrap-up: A book that I really enjoyed and one that I'm glad I read. I will definitely be curious to see what happens in the sequel. I feel like this one easily could have been a stand-alone novel, so I'm curious to see what she does with the sequel.
