The characters were real and relatable. Robby and David's budding romance was the kind that modern rom-coms should take note of. I felt for David and his past experiences, but was completely on Robby's side when he needed to take a step back and protect himself.
The only thing that I didn't care for were the way the time skips were handled. I was fine with them being there, but in the eBook I was reading, they weren't always that clear.
And, can I say, how happy I was to find a M/M Romance that, while definitely having some good ole' sexy time, didn't rely on it for the entirety of the story.
Albert is now on my top list of M/M authors, and I've already requested the next book in this series!!
Thank you Kensington Books and Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review
Let’s be honest, this book is basically Twilight. Twilight with gay werewolves. Twilight without restrictions. Twilight if it was written as2.5 stars
Let’s be honest, this book is basically Twilight. Twilight with gay werewolves. Twilight without restrictions. Twilight if it was written as nothing but sex.
This book was porn with a few hints of an actual storyline thrown in. That’s not to say that this book wasn’t fun in the “it’s so bad it’s good” kind of way. I finished it in less than a day, so something had to have gone right.
Zeus help me, this book made me smile. There were moments that were sweet. Then moments that were so sweet I’m pretty sure I now have multiple cavities.
But even those sweet moments were ruined by the fact that this book took every abusive aspect of Edward Cullen and jacked it up to 11. I can get on board with an alpha.
I can get on board with a dom/sub relationship.
But I can’t get on board a relationship where the “alpha” treats his boyfriend like a fucktoy. Honestly that’s what I got from this. Colten kept going on and on about how, FINALLY, he gets to have sex with Parker.
Yet, Colten didn’t care if Parker wanted to use condoms, because he (Colten) had no intention of using them. Colten breaks gifts Parker has received from friends so that Parker will only wear things that Colten gets him. Colten completely disregards Parkers need for privacy and reflection (after Colten TURNS HIM INTO A WEREWOLF!!!):
“Parker pulled open the window and knelt down. "Colton," he whispered. "What are you doing here?"
"I couldn't sleep. I can't wait, Parker. I know you said you needed time to think..."
Parker sighed. "I know, I know. You couldn't wait. You just have to have things your way, don't you?"
"Yes," he said, completely unrepentant. "Let me in."”
I just can’t……. For all the times this book was good: the sex, the sweet moments, the somewhat funny moments, they were all ruined by this kind of characterization that just had me fuming!! ...more
A good quick read. Wish it would have been stretched out a bit more; that would have allowed some of the story/characterization to be a bit more fleshA good quick read. Wish it would have been stretched out a bit more; that would have allowed some of the story/characterization to be a bit more fleshed out. But for what it was I really enjoyed it. And it definitely made me want to start working at a library in Oregon!! ...more
