Me and my March pen pal decided on this book together, but we both really didn't get into it. I got to Chapter 5, and I just couldn't get into it. I kept skipping over to other books. I guess at that point I just need to stop and maybe read it at a later date. I will lend it to my friend Staci to read, and hopefully she gets more out of it than I did....more

Detective Shevaughn Robinson is back, now with a 3 year old daughter named Toni. She is investigating a suicide of Helene Elliott, but it seems like there is something just not right about it being a suicide. There is also another serial killer to deal with. Here is a quote from page 23:
"He left for his day at the library. Today is research day. When he got there, he went directly to the microfiche machine and began looking through the newspaper obituaries for married men who died between 1980 and 1983. Their widows would be due for a little romance by now. He stayed there for hours, searching for her. His meticulous search netted seven names that merited further investigation. If some husband died and it made the first five pages of the paper, well, that meant a definite bonus because the dead man was powerful and with power came money. Their widows made excellent prospects for his future plans."
There is just so much going on in this book and it just sucked me in and hooked me until the last page. There was romance, death, and very disturbed people. For some reason, every time I think of Shevaughn, I picture Queen Latifah. If this was made into a movie and I so see her playing Von. I just can't say enough about how much I enjoyed reading this book and really look forward to reading the next book which is Deuces Wild. I have that book pre-ordered and it's coming out this week!...more

I saw the author on Goodreads and he seemed like a very interesting person, so I had to read his book.
I am not going to tell you what this book is about because you can see this from the Goodreads summary. Here is a quote from page 38: "In the Sargasso Sea there is no wind. Many, many years ago, when ships travel by sail, they would sometimes get stuck here. For weeks and weeks they would sometimes drift, waiting for the wind to come. The sailors called this 'The Horse Latitudes'."
This was just a good all around book and I highly recommend it....more

They weZeke found out his wife was screwing around on him with another man from pictures that were mailed to him at his office. He was so pissed off. They were married for 34 years and she goes and does this to him. Also, he finds his son-in-law Sam screwing an intern. He decides that his wife Sapphire has to pay for what she has done, and his son-in-law has to pay for betrying his only daughter Jewell. He tells his son-in-law that he has to murder Sapphire. His son-in-law Sam is torn. He owes to much to Zeke. Zeke helped him get a job instead of turning him into the police and making him go to jail, but he doesn't want to cause the death of his mother-in-law.
I found Dwyane Joseph on Goodreads and thought his book sounded really good and I bought it from Amazon. I really loved this book. I could feel the rage that Zeke had toward his wife for what she did to him. How could she betray him and just lie about it like there was nothing wrong. I also felt his wife's loneliness and her emotions as she was being satisfied by this other man. She met him in Barnes & Noble and he told her that for a price he could satisfy her since she isn't getting it from her husband.
This book was a page turner. I was shocked by how the story ended and it really made my stomach churn. I was on the edge of my seat! If you haven't read any books by Dwayne, you really should. I can't wait to read another one of his books!...more

There are many things going on in this book. Many murders are happening in a North Carolina town, and they are all school employees. Agent Logan Hunter is sent to North Carolina for a different reason, but ends up working on the murder cases. She rents a room from an art teacher named Taryn Kosterman. There is also a drug operation that is found, and it is surprising who is running it.
This is a fast paced mystery that I read in one day!...more
