The marriage might be an inconvenience but the sparks that fly between these two reluctant lovers is enough to set the pages on fire.
Tucked in bed pretty Samantha Northrup is abruptly woken from her respite to find a hulking man bounding on her door in the dead of night demanding the Aylebourough vault. What is a poor girl to do in this instant. She stands her ground and will not release them to this stranger. Unbeknown to her, that it is the dashingly disinherited rake, Yale Carderock who is being so demanding. And when the chaste vicar’s daughter ask for his name the seductive stranger--unbeknown to Samantha- fob her off with another.
Yale Carderock has recently returned from being away in Ceylon for the past eleven years. After being disinherited Yale signs on to a ship, thinking to pay his father back for his harsh and cruel world. in the end Yale ends up making a name for himself in the shipping industry. heading home to show his father he is bot the wastrel he claimed his son was only to find out his father died three years before. Come to find out that his entire family perceived he had drowned during a storm on the high seas. Wanting to make a clean get away before his family realize he is home he gives the pretty Samantha a false name.
What Yale did not expect encounter was coming deathly ill, ending up in the sweet vicar’s daughter’s bed being taken cared of. then being manhandled into marrying the chaste beauty. Yale figures he can cut and run. Marry the chit, set her up in a nice home than take off back to his life in Ceylon. But what neither expected was the combustible passion that sparked on their wedding night and has ignited a long that neither no how to fill.
Readers I honestly believed I had read every book and every word that New York Times bestselling author Cathy Maxwell had written this far. I was so wrong. Once I received my copy of BECAUSE OF YOU I shoved everything aside. I put down the book I was reading. Placed my pen and pad of yellow legal note pad to the side and dived right in. I did not submerge until I was half way through and my stomach began to growl. you see reader, once you have a Cathy Maxwell book in your hands reality and worries of the day slip away. BECAUSE OF YOU take readers into the world of an inconvenient marriage that in the end ended up saving both Yale and Samantha from a life of loneliness and sadness.
The major element that kept my eyes glued to the page was Samantha Northrup herself. Samantha is classic Cathy Maxwell. Maxwell gives her heroines the spit and fight that all women fiction and non-fiction should have. Maxwell is the mistress of the understated giving her heroines the flesh and blood spirit to go along with a courageous heart. I have yet to read a Maxwell book where there heroine is meek, mild and seems clueless to make her life better. Then to add in an alpha male that is a bit gruff, use to getting his way--which don’t all alpha males get--but underneath maxwell makes sure to make her alpha males as true to life and breaths creative air into thir lungs by giving them genuine emotional struggles that readers will relate to.
A story is nothing with its characters and BECAUSE OF YOU pages almost overflowed from the small minded of the country village people of Sproule in Northumberland England. They were charming in their own dysfunctional way. but boy I was so excited to see Samantha head to London once she and Yale were on their way. Yale’s brother, Wayland Carderock, the Duke of Ayleborough was a kick. He was astute, priggish and domineering but you would expect nothing less. Wayland’s three adorable sons will have readers chuckling. On the whole the supporting cast lead a wonderfully beautiful love story through itd ups and downs and shifted some detours around for our brave protagonists.
Yale Carderock her hero in BECAUSE OF YOU is no different. And I thank Maxwell for seeing this dastardly devilish rake had a heart. He might not show it right away, or chose to run in the wrong direction, but that is fine because in the end the reader will have a grand time chasing his journey right along side him.
I am a romance and fiction alcholic. There isn’t anything that cannot be fixed in fiction. add in a bunch of romance and some historical elements and I will be there in a flash. Maxwell’s BECAUSE OF YOU has all the elements a reader looks for in a romance. She gives readers a well rounded story with high octane emotional drive with two terrifically fleshed out characters placing them in uncomfortable situations to watch the characters grow individual to come back around and grow as a couple. for instance, in BECAUSE OF YOU Yale is determined to do the right thing by marrying Samantha. He feels that by marrying her, setting her up in a nice home in London and settling her with his family that his good deed is done. But what what he missed in all this preparation was seeing who Samantha really was and what an asset to his life this beautiful women is to him. He all most walks away from it all but it only to a brief moment for him to come to his senses and realize that home is only where Samantha is. he no longer had to prove to himself and to the world that he was worth. All he needed was Samantha to show him that he was. ...more
