You start off with Marie leaving her abusive, cheating husband. When she returns to get her things, a woman she had previously deemed "THE WHORE" (Emphasis hers) helps her escape. They bond briefly. I have to tell you I wasn't expecting that at all. I expected her to show up, but for both the women to realize the guy is shit and then help each other? I couldn't believe it.
There are examples like this throughout the book. Marie comments on the hierarchy of women in the MC world. You have the old ladies at the top and then the sweet butts at the bottom. I'm interested in learning more about the women in this world and especially if the women in this book are an example. I'm tired of the bitch eat bitch world. Hooray comradely. ...more

One of my favorite/least subjects played a part: religion. Again I really wished this novella was like at least 120 pages. The characters have distinct personalities, but the story is over way too quickly for my liking. I like a good, short read, but I also like to feel like the story was fulfilling. I will say that I like the series and I'll definitely be checking out more of the author's work. ...more

They've mostly been of the MFM category (Did you know that there is a difference between MFM and MMF? THIS BISH DIDN'T). I bought this book on the strength of the author's name alone. But see she makes me want to read more of the MMF genre like gah I need more. But will it be as good as hers? IDK! Guess I'll have to find out with lots and LOTS of research.
Soo I had just read one of her novellas in the Secret Library series and I wanted MOAR so I decided to pick this up. And it doesn't waste any time getting into the good stuff.
But I have to say besides the hotness I really like how the character of Tyler was done esp. near the end of the book. I thought that was the best. Ms. Stein is really good at writing layered characters. (And really hot porn, but you knew that right?) ...more

I think this was really noticeable with Sheltered. I hadn't even finished that book before I had already started searching for romance novel with tattooed heroes. I like tattoos and piercings, but there was something about the way Van was described that I just couldn't get enough of.
And then with this. I've seen so many recs for books like Colter's Woman, but I wasn't sure if I'd like something like that. But with this book? I really loved it and it's made me interested in reading more books along the same line. I feel like with the size of this book and Ms. Stein's awesome ability at character driven stories have really opened to eyes to things I wouldn't have tried before. And really that is awesome. ...more

Over the last few years, I really opened up. Not just to others, but to myself as well. A few years I wouldn't have been able to read this book without feeling shamed. But today I can say that I really enjoyed this book.
I liked that Flynn, the traditional alpha male, or so it seemed didn't really have a problem (view spoiler)[ being in a relationship. I liked that he told Laurel that he wasn't afraid of anything and that included relationships. I mean what kinda of alpha male does that? Aren't all of them commitment phobes? (hide spoiler)]
I liked the author's voice. The characters were really well developed and I could really visualize or rather hear them in my head since I don't normally visualize character so much as hear them speaking.
Five stars. I loved this book. ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>...more

Oh my god, this story was so hot! Like the premise sounded interesting from the get go. A male professor teaching a class on the romance novel? Uh okay? And then he's staid so there's that extra layer. This story was really hot and that ending really had me wanting more. I wonder if her upcoming novel The Professor is based on this story because if so sign me up!
A little birdy told me not to put all my business on social media so I won't. But the premise of this story was fairly interesting to this girl. Again very hot but the ending though? I wasn't really feel it, you know? I wanted them to meet up! I'm a romantic okay!
Lessons *** 1/2
The beginning of this story creeped me out. I wasn't quite sure what was going on. It wasn't until the end that I realized it was roleplay. That said despite the beginning, the story was really hot. But the beginning kinda made me feel weird, but it kinda didn't you know?
Yes **** 1/2
Now it was clear in this story that it was roleplay and I was much more comfortable. And omg that end. So dirty. And I love that the next story title has dirty in it!
Dirty Disgusting You ****1/2
It's surprising I have no qualms about adultery stories since I was cheated on but alas. So I enjoyed this story. I also liked that the heroine was uptight. I love uptight heroines! The end was sweet as well. I didn't rate this five stars because while I liked it, I didn't LOVE it.
Her Father Disapproves *****
For the ending. Glorious
For You ***
This story was nice. It was kind of sultry, but not really hot. All I can say is that is was nice. Nice is usually good, but I don't look for nice when I'm reading erotica.
Just Be Good **** 1/2
I said it before, Ms. Stein's writing has a way of making me reconsider my fetishes. I've never really had a thing for cops, but reading this story makes me want to see out cop erotica. Is there such a thing? Yes, there is such a thing. I saw two separate cop erotica anthologies on amazon. Must get.
Phoned In ****
Thinking back this one kind of reminded me of Spying. Both of the lovers are separated. I think I rated this one higher because of the endings respectively. The only thing I would have liked better about this story if it was about cyber sex instead of phone sex. Phone sex seems a little old school.
/Yes **** 1/2
This was the companion story to Yes/ I had been looking forward to reading it to see what happened. I think what I like best about this story is the message it sends: It's okay to open yourself up to someone emotionally as well as physically.
Sometime Soon ****
Rednecks aren't so bad. Not all of them are bigots. I know a couple (Remember I live in the Deep South) and generally they're good people. But with that in mind I don't usually lust after them. But see this is Stein writing this story and you know what I've said about her ability in this area. I really liked the ending of this story and I would love it if she came up with a full book based on this story.
Different on the Inside *** 1/2
I love repressed heroines, in all genres, but especially in erotica.
All Ways ****
I think what I liked about this story is that it took something very realistic like a veteran coming home from war and made it work in erotica. I think this story could have went wrong, but I really enjoyed it!
Toby Hood Tastes Candy **** 1/2
I loved this one because Ms. Stein took her regular theme of a repressed heroine and made it the hero! I love that. You know I don't see the hero repressed as much in either general romance or erotica so it was a real pleasure to see. And this story made me think of Little Red Riding Hood.
The Things That Make Me Given In *** 1/2
I loved the ending lines of this story, but it was kind of confusing. But again I love the message of it.
So I've review all of the stories in this collection. I have to get it to Ms. Stein, she knows how to write short fiction. I've read a full novel, two novella, and this book of short stories by her and I don't really see a difference. Sometimes I feel cheated with short stories, but she is really good at capturing a lot in a little space. I'm giving this book four and half stars!...more

[Insert my usual spiel about finding a book that I wanted to finish in a day. Truthfully it hasn't been THAT long. The last one was Control by Charlotte Stein]
This book reminds me of Mary Balogh's The Mistress which in turn reminds me of Jane Eyre. But moving on. Christian is that tortured hero that I apparently like a little too much since I've read 13 of the top tortured hero romances according to Listopia. He was a perk.
But it's the heroine Ava that really interested me. She's so...understanding? Idk. Like she talks to herself and I enjoyed that says the girl that talks to herself. OUTLOUD LIKE THE HEROINE She's very honest with her feelings. She's a genuinely nice person, but not in the way that other constantly comment on, but it is clear from the text that this is not the case.
I'll be truthful and say I bought this because I was looking for erotic historical. I came for the erotica, but I stayed for the story. I can't wait to read the rest of this series. ...more

I really liked Evie. I bought this book because of the title and the premise. My home life wasn't quite like Evie's, but I definitely felt sheltered.
Van was adorable. I have to admit I wasn't expecting that. Don't judge a book by its cover huh?...more

I think what I liked most about this is that the guy has started to crave her blood and hers only! Yay! But I don't like that he's a jerk. I used to love the jerky heroes but as I age I have less patience for them. It doesn't stop me from reading but it annoys me like you wouldn't believe.
Definitely going to continue with this series. ...more
