Just as he learns of the brutal death of Josie, the prostitute turned informant, Mason is startled to receive a frantic phone call from his ex-wife, Robin, the mother of his teen son, Jake. Robin's eleven-year old stepdaughter, Henley, vanished on her way to school. When Mason arrives at the home Robin shares with her second husband, Lucas, and their combined family, the local and the FBI are already on the case. Special Agent Ava McClane has been brought in from the Portland Crimes Against Children Unit. Intense, intuitive, and involved, Ava knows there is no time to waste in finding Henley and bringing her home. Working together, using the family home as a base of operations, Mason and Ava find professional admiration beginning to mix with mutual attraction. Just as sparks begin to fly between them, the heat is on in both of their personal lives as Mason fights suspicion that he may be Josie's killer, and Ava must cope with her own sister's messed-up life and substance abuse issues. All the while, the clock keeps ticking, with time running out for the safe return of young Henley. Callahan and McLane have each other, along with their considerable skills, and the resources of the FBI and local law enforcement to help them in their desperate attempt to save a young girl's life and make all right once again with their world--will it be enough? Talented author Kendra Elliot expertly blends thrilling romantic suspense with fascinating forensics and leaves readers looking forward to the further adventures of Callahan & McClane.

For so long, software developer Taryn Young's world had revolved around her work. With a genius IQ, a high-security clearance, and a knack for creating software highly valued by the government, Taryn was a certified workaholic--until she met Shep. Francis "Shep" Shepherd, a diamond importer, came into Taryn's life and swept her off her feet. Over the course of three months, his tender concern and sensual attention broke through her workbound barriers and won her heart. The morning after their wedding, they are waiting at the airplane terminal, ready to board the flight to their honeymoon destination when a massive explosion rocks the facility. Taryn had left Shep just long enough to make use of the restroom, and they were separated when disaster struck. Later, in the hospital, Taryn is questioned by two FBI Special Agents, Grayson Hall, and his older, more cynical partner, Vince Bradshaw. Taryn's husband, Shep, is missing, and security tapes show him leaving the airport just before the explosion and being driven away in the same limo they arrived in. The FBI informs Taryn that "Francis Shepherd" doesn't exist, and his business is bogus. Hurt, confused, and not knowing whom she can trust, Taryn is as much as suspect in the bombing as is Shep. Agent Bradshaw is convinced of Taryn's guilt, but Grayson senses that Taryn is a victim, not a conspirator. As the FBI investigation deepens and widens, Taryn seeks answers of her own. When the personal stakes become even more dear, Taryn and Grayson must work together to bring out the truth. Can they trust and protect one another? Will each of them discover a newfound Faith as they learn about themselves and get to know each other? Will they not only survive, but find a new, unexpected happiness in the future? Carrying forward the spirit of the TV show, without the weird, way-out recipe ingredient combinations, the authors have come up with a handy, helpful, handsome volume of deliciously different dishes. While "The Chopped Cookbook: Use What You've Got to Cook Something Great" is smaller in size than a typical cookbook, it is loaded with fabulous color photos of food that definitely looks good enough to eat. "The Chopped Pantry" section starts things off right by telling you which pantry staples will help you to achieve your culinary objectives like "Crunch", "Brothiness", or "Richness". There are helpful hints and cooking tips all throughout the book, but there are no nutritional breakdowns for the recipes. While I found much to like in every chapter, the vegetable recipes really caught my eye along with the short, simple guide to buying the pick of the crop. Here are some of the recipes that I found especially appealing: "Tortellini with Cream Cheese Alfredo and Peas"; "Grilled Chicken with Peach Pickle BBQ Sauce"; "Cumin Pork Steak with Grilled Savoy Cabbage and Apples"; "Moroccan Carrot Salad"; "Cremini Carpaccio"; "Tomato-Cheddar Gratin"; "Roasted Shrimp Cocktail Salad"; "Warm Salted Caramel Banana Pudding"; and "Mocha Brownies with Coffee and Cinnamon".
