I haven't read a romantic fantasy book as good as this one for a long time. It has everything I love about this genre and even a bit more. I always like it when the fantasy is something special. I don't want to read about orks and elves any longer. I have so had enough of those. I appreciate it when the author creates something new and creative and not just a Tolkien copy. I love the invention of new races and divine creatures. I love it when the different cultures speak individual languages. Yes, I know it's totally crazy but I'm one of those people who actually owns a copy of the Elvish Dictionary.
But back to this book. The world we find ourselves in is kind of medieval with a touch of magic and more than enough divine intervention. The people in this world believe in the power of their deities, so they all try to stay on the good side of the one they chose to follow.
The story is all about Shannari. She is a princess but not the kind we normally think of when hearing that word. She had to defend herself more than once and got gravely hurt in the process - physically and even more so emotionally. She is a strong character with deep bonds to her people. She knows what her destiny is and she is not afraid to sacrifice herself on the way. She knows what the important and right thing to do is but all this knowledge doesn't make her feel better. She knows there is no way around it so she will hold her head up high and just live through it. The first time she meets Rhaekhar is in a battle and she sees him as a strong warrior and also as the barbarian he is. But OMG, I want my own barbarian now. Nope, I take that back I want my own PAIR of barbarians now. *wicked grin* But more about that later.
Rhaekhar is the Khul of the Nine Camps of the Sha'Kae al'Dan, so to speak their leader. He is the best in everything *wink* and has to stand up to all expectations in order to stay Khul. He's an alpha male from head to toe and he never gives up when his goal is in sight. And his goal is to have Shannari. Not as some low sex-slave as some of our dirty minds might think. No, he wants to marry her and spend the rest of his life at her side- forever. He knows from a vision that she is the one and he will fight for her hard with all he has and let me say that this would win my heart ASAP. He's a kind man although he rules with a strong hand. But he has a good heart and wants to make everything right.
And then we have Gregar *big sigh*- the Shadowed Blood. A Blood is a kind of personal bodyguard for the Khul and all 7 of them should never leave his back. And with never I mean like not even in the personal moments we sometimes have. *blush* Gregar is a special one- he has so much darkness, shadow inside that it sometimes broke my heart. He's a passionate man with a really wicked grin and oh so many other good characteristics but he really can be scary from time to time. I can't even say for sure why I loved him so much. Perhaps cuz I wanted to hug him and make it all better? I'm really not sure but Gregar is so my new book boy friend. We get the first glimpse at a wonderful love triangle but at the end we have to be patient for the next book to get a better look at my beloved Gregar.
The Rose of Shanhasson grabbed my heart from the first sentence to the last word and I wanted to scream for the next book when I closed this one. Okay, it's probably not for the faint of heart with all the blood and shadows in it but I felt honored with every drop. The emotional build up was heart wrenching from time to time and the sexual tension will boil your blood. The fantasy is fascinating and wonderfully developed, the storyline thrilling through the whole book. All in all a must read for all the fantasy lovers out there who love to read something hot and spicy. The Rose of Shanhasson so deserves the title na'lanna for me. (less)

I read it first and as you can see I bought the first one the same night. II really enjoy these Xmas themed books and they always help to get in the mood for the holidays! Both stories are connected to the first book but they can be read as standalone. I didn't even notice that they weren't. I only discovered the first book cuz of the mention inside this one.

This was a very touching and lovely story. Greta had a horrible past with an asshole husband and still struggles a bit with emotion and sexual interaction. She loves her motel and things her dad gave it to her for a reason. She knows it's not the best but it's her fathers work and her own now too. She just don't want to lose it. Mitch is some hot guy and he's really successful in everything he does. He's a former professional surfer and has the body to confirm that! He wants the motel but what he wants even more id Greta. Now he just has to convince her of that fact.
I loved the way the relationship between these two developed. Not only did they learn to trust each other they also involved her kids. That was heartbreakingly sweet to watch. Mitch puts so much time and effort into the kids and all out of his own volition. Great is a skeptic from the start and can't believe that Mitch does all this without a hidden agenda.
These two can also turn the pages on fire and I loved each word of those scenes. Very hawt! Wonderful love-story with a lovely family and the nicest and most thoughtful kids inside.
Sweet Charity by Lauren Dane
Gabriel is one of these guys you want to slap silly cuz he believes in some things that are just not true and he's too stubborn to change his mind. Reminded me a bit of Todd of Laid Bare but Gabe doesn't want to hurt Charity and thinks she deserves something better. Sometimes guys have some ideas, huh? Charity can't forget Gabe after her one-nightstand with him. It was nothing good- really not- but he seemed to be holding back and she knows that he still wants her. So why doesn't he do something about that? Time to take that problem in her own hand. She wants him and she will get him. Way to go Girl! I loved her character. She's strong and knows what she wants- a great heroine.
The sex in this book was scorching hot with a little BDSM put in for good measure. No need to turn the heater on while you read that. Believe me!
I enjoyed all the family ties in this book and how welcoming they were. This one really started my Xmas mood.
I recommended these books(Holiday Heat and Seduction) for everyone who likes to get warm inside before Xmas. (less)

This is book 10 in the Hunter series and I have to shamefully admit that I haven't read the first 9 books. I won this book in a twitter contest and realized too late what I got myself into again. But this book is written to be read as a standalone too.
Ana is one of strongest characters I every read about. She's not one of these kickass chicks ready to pull off your head in heartbeat but she's strong from within. She's not perfect and made one real mistake in her life that no-one in the paranormal world seems to be able to forget. She suffers from the judging looks she gets every day and decides to start a new life. I think that's not an easy decision to make especially because she has to leave her little brother behind. To pack all your belongings and start from scratch always sounds easier as it is. She goes far away and wants to live an ordinary life without paranormal incidents. But that doesn't work out the way she planned it. Sometimes Ana annoyed me a bit with not believing that something good could happen to her but it was totally reasonable. After a life full of aggression and rejection, to start trusting is not an easy task. She's a very emotional and empathic character not only because of her psychic gift.
Duke burned his fingers the first time he met Ana. She played him and that's a thing he can hardly forget not to think of forgiving. Or so he tries to tell himself. He's a hunter and one of the most stubborn men I ever met. When he finally realizes that he can't ignore his attraction to Ana he so rocked my world. Have I mentioned that I so adore purring shifters? I so do and this one is so good at it.
I enjoyed the building up before they got together and loved the way the relationship developed. The whole back and fourth gripped me so much I couldn't put the book down- very steamy scenes included.
The plot around the love story was good. It was mysterious and gripping although I have to say that it was not the thing that kept me reading this book. But in my opinion this didn't make the book less wonderful. It's great the way it is and I highly recommend it to everyone who loves a steamy paranormal romance with a nice plot. The release date is December 1st. That's next week. So go and get this one! (less)

He is a slave and feels like one. (Nearly) All his Spartan brothers support and value him but he don’t seem to accept this. His biggest dream is to be free and to fight with his brothers as a Spartan warrior- same rights and all. He wants to live his own live, to be fully independent and to be his own master. Not only is he bound to Ajax as a herlot he also has the ability/curse to turn into a mighty weapon. This sounds really great but the down point is his condition after he changes back- he turns into berserker with a quite intense sex-drive. No real good condition to meet a lovely girl like Emma.
Emma is Shays cousin and a Listener. She can hear the demons but not see them. She tried to bury her ability deep inside herself after a tragic incident in her past but when she frees River after his 4 months long imprisonment in weapon form there seems to be no way she can hide from her destination any longer. She is strong and is not afraid to go the path life shows her, together with River for their future. The love between Emma and River is so pure- they are really made for each other. The way their connection builds up through the story is perfectly developed.
The story is fast paced and so full of action I sometimes was afraid to breath cuz I didn’t want to miss something. The life of our Spartans gets more complicated in this book and each one of them has to face a decision in this book. The secondary characters play a big role in this book and I loved it. The story gets so much more depth because of this. It’s also a really good foundation for the next books. I can’t decide who’s story I want to read next- best option would be all at the same time. LOL! She made me really curious here.
Great book with a good cliffhanger in the end so now I’m counting the days till the next book is released.

Very understandable in my opinion. 2000 years of battling the bad and saving mankind but no real meaning of life for himself. He loves his Spartan brothers and he adores his “mission” but he misses something, or better said someone. The oracle prophecied him a soulmate but that was for over 2000 years and really: no-one can wait so long without getting a little impatient.
Shay just lost her mother and now has to face the problems left concerning family and their business. She lives in a world of demon hunters- every man in their bloodline has this calling and battles the creatures of the night. Only problem is she would like to do the same but the girls aren’t allowed to and what’s more important she shouldn’t be able to see the demons at all. The whole thing gets more confusing when she gets this letter stating that she’s adopted and has the ability to see demons cuz she doesn’t really belong to her family. Now she doesn’t know who to believe and what to do about all this. They both get together when Shay is attacked of a horde of demons and Jax tries to save her and realizes who he finally has found.
Deidre's writing is full of love and passion. Every time I read her I feel like I could live of her words alone. The characters are complex, sometimes quirky but always lovable, the world is wonderful and full of different facets. I love the way she throws us in the middle of the action and let us see the whole story through the eyes of many characters. In this book is so much story but I never felt overwhelmed. The end was a little predictable but perhaps I just guesses right.(less)

I read DSIY for the first time last summer after reading a fabulous review by Pearl. I started with the free prequel Letters (you can find that one here) and I was hooked from the start. What makes this book so special to me is all the emotion Joely put into this book. How did she do that? I think I have to explain that in detail.
Rae is a strong woman afraid to lose herself in a man, especially Conn. She lived through a really bad marriage and still fights the consequences this left behind. She didn't see Conn for 5 years but she always thought of him. She wrote him many letters, explaining how she feels and what happened in her life. She never send one of them and I can so understand why. It's hard to bare your soul to someone else and Rae doesn't want to be that vulnerable. I adored every single one of her letters. Reading them feels like grabbing Rae's diary and taking a long deep look into her soul. The letters are so raw and heartfelt that I sometimes felt like intruding into her personal space. But nosy me doesn't mind that. *wink*
Conn on the other hand has a goal the moment he lays his eyes on Rae again: making it work this time. He is such a wonderful character: caring, loving and dominant with capital D. Conn knows what he wants. But even more than that he knows what he doesn't want: to hurt Rae or to make her run again. He is determinant to do everything what needs to be done to make Rae understand what he, his attraction to her and his sexual preferences are about. He takes his time to make her see the difference between submission and losing herself is. He shows her what kind of power a submissive holds over her Dom. I think this books describes this relationship in such a loving way that you just can't close your eyes against it.
The relationship buildup was lovely and spiked with a joke here and there and even some pop quizzes to lighten the mood. I loved how they both acted around each other when the first insecurities where diminished. I could see the adoration in Rae's eyes and I could feel the temperature rising when Conn saw his love.
The scenes between the sheets came after a rather long really hawt wait but they totally made up for that. And OMG the poetry was gorgeous. I would have never thought that something like that could be that sizzling.
I also enjoyed reading about the wonderful side-characters. Ms. Belle the more or less crazy lady who talks to her dead husband and solves murder cases in her free time or the math professor with love for swordplay.
All in all Dear Sir, I'm Yours is one of the best books I read in 2009 and it's already on my all time favorites pile. The love story is sweet, thoughtful and heartbreaking in the right mix with witty conversations, laugh-out-loud moments and scorching hot one-on-one encounters. You could never understand what's the gist of BDSM is? Read this book and you will get at least a fundamental understanding of it. Highly recommended read! (less)

Megan is a strong character who always struggles to be as she wants to be. She doesn’t take everything thrown her way with just a smile. She fights for being human and for staying this way. She wants to be good and hates the idea of becoming a bad person or worse a demon. Strange enough that her boyfriend is one. But I can’t blame her because Greyson Dante is just hot. Which girl wouldn’t love a man who can ignite the fire between the two of you? No objections from me in this department. But perhaps you have noticed before I’m a real sucker for demons. Back to the book: Greyson is as distanced as ever but not only of his own- Megan herself isn’t very forthcoming with information about her life either. They both have to find a way to turn to each other instead of getting consumed by doubt. The story is very emotionally intense and at some point it bordering on back breaking. The book is full of action- the trouble comes from all sides and never seems to stop. The dialogs are full of wit and great adjusted to the characters. I love that there’s always a funny reference to find in Ms. Kane’s books and her three demon bodyguards alone are a reason to read this series. The end was a bit short. I prefer a little soothing of my mind in the end. ;-) I loved reading this book but I think it’s not for the faint of heart: It’s full of blood, fights and to my delight zombies and other gruesome creatures- there are one or two '*ick* moments. I like that about this book but I think it’s not typical book in the paranormal romance genre. I would sort it as an urban fantasy with a romance in it but not as the leading theme. The focus of this book is more on Megan as a person and her struggle with what she is and what she wants to be. I cant wait to read what happens next…(less)

I devoured all her previous book in the Night Huntress series. She is on my autobuy list and this book didn't change that.
First Drop of Crimson is the first book in Ms. Frost's spinoff series, the Nighthuntress World. We will meet secondary characters of the Cat & Bones books again in this series and I'm so curious about that. One of the things that make Ms. Frost's books so special to me are her wonderful characters and I can't wait to learn more about them.
This book is story of Spade and Denise. Okay I have to admit one thing first: Denise wasn't one of favorite characters through the whole series and that didn't change while reading this book. I know that she lived through hell not only because of Randy's death but she never reached my heart as the other characters did.
Denise is still convinced to leave the supernatural world behind. She wants to live a normal life without horrible deaths and gruesome monsters. She hates that the vampires think about humans only as replaceable property. She only sees the bad sides of this society and to be honest I can totally understand that but with the time she should learn to see the good in the vampires around her too. She always complains about being degraded for being human but after all she does the same with the vampires- a hard case of hypocrisy in my eyes. She met good vampires, Bones and Cat for example but she still see them all as the bad guys. After she gets in trouble with this demon she has to depend on Spade for the survival of her family and her own. She gets attracted to Spade and I can't blame her for that, I would be putty in his hands for sure, but she still can't stop her own prejudices. That annoyed me through the whole book. Don't get me wrong Denise is a nice character with good morals and quite an attitude but she doesn't reach my expectations.
Spade is a real prick at the start. At the beginning of the book I thought: "That can be fun. I don't like heroine and the hero. Just great!" But Spade only needed a few pages to sneak into my heart. He had a horrible incident with a human he cared for and her death in his past. After this event he swore to himself that he will never get emotionally attached to one again. When he realizes that there is no way around being in love with Denise he tries to do everything in his power to save her and win her heart. The latter includes for him to turn her into a vampire and as you can imagine that is a thing Denise won't be so fond of.
The chemistry between these two is sizzling. They need a bit time to get going but OMG the wait is worth it. It's nothing like chapter 32 but damn near.
"If this is dying, Denise thought, I highly recommend it."
I so agreed with that!
As in all of Ms. Frosts book we have witty comments and snarky remarks in this books too. They made me laugh out loud more than ones.
Quote: Denise to Spade:
"Don't you 'Denise' me," she snapped. "I don't care how old, powerful, or strong you are. If you ever do something like that again, I'll stab you in the heart. Son of a bitch, I can't believe you throw me out of a plane."
As you can see the book is full of action and the story sucked me in from the start. I couldn't put this book down and was so frustrated as I had too.
One tiny thing I noticed: The name of the bad guy is Raum- in German that means room. Really confusing for me but probably not for the rest of you. LOL
I recommend this book to everyone who read the Nighthuntress books. I really think it would be better to read the other books before starting this one cuz it relates to many events of the previous books. First Drop of Crimson is a great addition to this world and I can't wait to get the next spinoff.
