I have a soft spot for science fiction romance and I couldn’t wait to dive into this world. In Unaccepteable Risk we meet Plix a mysterious woman living a world rather different from ours. In her world humans are able to enhance not only their body but also their mind. There are ways to become stronger, faster or to turn yourself into a living and breathing surveillance system- the latter is what Plix had to do. Plix, our heroine, has a mission and she is singlemindedly trying to reach her goal. She is more than determined and so focused that she has to ignore the other things, or persons, that mean the world to her.
One of those is Edison. He’s her tuner and her secret crush. As a tuner he does the actual enhancements or, as in Plix’ case, repair them after they were damaged. He’s not only caring for the mechanical part of her- over the time they “worked” together she took a piece of his heart and everytime she leaves to put herself in danger yet again his heart is splintering a little more. He wants to keep her safe but he doesn’t know how to get her to listen to him. It’s hard to get through to her.
The tragic of this story is that you do know that they both want each other but the circumstances just don’t permit it. It’s a heartwrenching situation and their feeling felt so real to me I actually felt my heart breaking with theirs.
As you can see this novella really touched me. It’s not often I feel such a deep connection to characters and even less in such a short format. Ms Grey reminds me of Megan Hart and her work- great characterisation and an engaging and facinating world-building hold together by a compelling writing style.
I loved the pace of this book. You jump head first into the story and everything unfolds slowy before your eyes. You learn all the essentials as the story progresses. At first this confusd me a bit but after some pages I was so engrossed that I lost track of time.
As you can see I loved this book. This is one of these rare gems you find. I hoped to like this book but instead I adored it. Unacceptable Risk will draw you in and not let you go. I know I will hunt down Ms Grey‘s backlist and keep her future releases on must buy list.
I give Unacceptable Risk 4.5 out of 5 stars!...more

Ann Mayburn is known for her hot and highly erotic romances and when I heard that she planed to write one in a historical setting that also had cowboyAnn Mayburn is known for her hot and highly erotic romances and when I heard that she planed to write one in a historical setting that also had cowboys I just had to grab my chance. In Wild Lilly we meet not only sexy cowboys but also soiled doves aka dancehall girls, some very nice Indians and a bunch of bad guys- some not as bad as it seems.
The story is all about Lilly, a girl from a wealthy family who yearns for freedom and adventure. When her uncle dies and leaves his land in the west in her care she knows without a doubt that she has to grab her chance. Lilly is a daring and adventurous young woman. She’s a free spirit and is more liberated than it was usual at this time. But she also can be rather naive at times which I have to admit irked me to no end. At times I just wanted to grab her and shake her real hard. How could she not see what really happened?
On the other hand we have Paul- the rough and gruff cowboy who steals Lilly’s heart. He is a nice guy at heart and only wants to take care of his family but he can be a rather selfish asshole. He’s so focused on his life and goals that he sometimes doesn’t seem to realize what he is actually doing to others. He judges others for selfishness and in essence he wasn’t very much different. His deceiving of Lilly really made me angry. I know I shouldn’t care so much, but I HATE liers and he just didn’t stop. I was so angry at times that I really felt like throwing the ereader against the wall. This was a rather big problem for me.
I really loved the sidecast though. Estrella was such a vivid and believabkle character. She really had fire- I loved that. Also Sleeping Bear was great and I liked his character for too many reasons to list- and well he was hot. *wink* And Lilly’s grand-mère was a riot.
The plot was a bit too cluttered for my taste. So many things happened and while nearing the end my thoughts actually only consisted of “Not really.” With so many incidents, twists and surprises I felt overwhelmed. The story lost a bit of it’s credibility.
All in all Wild Lilly was a really fast paced and erotic historical romance with a vast variety of characters. It’s full of action, not only between the sheets. If you like your historicals hot this might be the read for you. I already cant wait to see what the next novel in this series will bring.
In The Limit of Desire we encounter one of my favorite romance themes- the past fling getting back together. Jessa and Ryder are fighting side by sideIn The Limit of Desire we encounter one of my favorite romance themes- the past fling getting back together. Jessa and Ryder are fighting side by side in the Limit War and on their last leave they spent some very enjoyable few days on a nice and hot little beach paradise planet. They agreed to keep it at that and when they resume their duty they are just fellow soldiers- or that’s what they planned it to be. But then Jessa is missing and Ryder can’t stand the thought of her falling into the hands of the Dusk warriors.
Jessa is the captain of her unit. She is a strong leader with a compassionate heart. I really liked this chick. She is strong and never gives up. She treasures her memories of the time she spent with Ryder but also tries to ignore as best as she can. She has to be focused on her job to keep all the people who depend on her safe. Ryder is a very endearing character. He’s in the war to help and not to step up the career ladder. He is funny and daring and always has some innuendo to share to put a little blush on Jessa’s face. I loved his teasing and joking side- he put a smile on my face rather often. He wants them to be more than just comrades but so far all his tries to get her back in his bed failed. When he hears that Jessa is missing his only goal is to get her back to safety. His determination is unwavering. Well what can I say about that besides just wow. Who wouldn’t fall for a man who will run right into the enemy zone just to save you? I have to say the chemistry between these two was sizzling hot. They just fit each other and I was dying to see them finally get together. Let’s say Rosso really kept us waiting for that to happen. I loved how the tension was kept up with back flashes to the time they spent together. The main portion of this novella shows Jessa and Ryder sabotaging the enemies’ weapons. It is a very plot driven read with a focus on military ranks, strategies and how a “relationship” plays into that. Even more so because Jessa is actually Ryder’s boss. Both of them have to learn how deal with that and well then there is also the rest of the team. I would have loved to see more of the romance in this book. We see them together and how they decide to give being a couple a chance but it always felt like the romance was a bit missing. The war and the fight is always very prominent and takes a huge part of you attention- it felt like it missed them really falling in love. In contrast to how the whole book the end was even a bit cheesy. A bit more balance between the war and the love story would have been perfect. The Limit of Desire is an action packed science fiction novel with a couple you just have to like. A bit more feeling and passion would have made this a perfect read for me.
I give The Limit of Desire 3 1/2 out of 5 stars....more

He didn't have an easy start with us as the reader. In the previous novels he didn't often agree with our leading characters and as we sided with the heroes he got a bit of an opposing role. And now here he is in all his glory and well, he definitely won my heart over.
I have to shamefully admit that I didn't read the novella that precedes Real Men Will and I really regret this. I will have to remedy it ASAP. The novella in The Guy Next Door tells the story of how Beth and Eric met for the first time and from what I learned in Real Men Will I need to read that. But I still I could follow the storyline without having any problems at all.
There is more to Eric and his behavior than the author tried to make us believe in the previous installments. He has a reason for being so stubborn and set in his way. He doesn't want to be the spoilsport all the time but his consciense forces him to act the way he does. His thoughts and worries aren't what I expected. The backstory really puts his character into a different light. I loved how strong he was at some times but at others he was as vulnerable as we all can be from time to time. His fights with Jamie nearly broke my heart now that I knew why both sides acted the way they did. I just wanted to grab them and bang their stubborn heads together.
Beth is as much a deceiving character as Eric. Everyone believes that the owner of the local sex store must be an experienced and openminded lover. Well, I don't want to say that she isn't but she isn't what everyone wants her to be. She is just an ordinary woman with her own fears and worries. She is a strong and successful businesswoman but deep inside she sometimes still feels like the unsure and angsty teen again. This made her very like able for me. She was unsure with other dates but with Eric she was someone else. He made her feel like she could just be herself. I loved that the most - to see her bloom and find a way to be who she is. That is the way it should be in a relationship- you shouldn't be afraid to say what you want- ever.
The plot itself didn't grab me as much as the previous ones, though. The whole connection between Beth and the Kendalls felt a bit staged. I loved to see the other Donovans again though- always makes me smile to see those all in love and happy.
Real Men Will delivers a heartwarming ending for a wonderful contemporary series. We learn to look beneath what people seem to be- to question their real motives and how deceiving it can be to not know all the facts. The Donovan Brother's Brewery series is a wonderful ride that will make you smile, laugh and cry. Highly recommended read!...more

Her new series is again set in this world but it takes places before any of her previous series so this is actually a good way to take the chance and jump into her world. In Spell Bound we meet Shea currently on the run with her little brother. An old enemy, Dario Paganelli, is chasing them and they are in dire need of help. The siblings are totally lost in this battle even more so because they don't know why all this is happening. I have to admit that I never really warmed up to Shea. She is a strong heroine but for me she was at times too angsty and self condescending. She blamed herself for so many things and no matter what she didn't seem to want to stop doing it.
Gabriel is a Grigorio deep to the bone. He was raised to be one and it is truly his calling, I really liked him. He is a strong and stubborn man but he also has a soft side who isn't too manly to tell his mother he loves her. *sigh* He has many facets and well he just plain fascinated me- to see his soft and hard edges and the way all those made him the man he is. Just great.
I also really loved the sideplot between Quinn and Serina. So much tension and heartbreak to find in this story. I so hope these two will get their own book. They deserve a shot at love and happiness.
Sadly the mainplot didn't really keep my attention. I can't really point out why. Perhaps it didn't happen enough at times and other times the action just seemed to tumble over each other. The balance felt off. And well I admit it the romance took too long for my taste to really start. The build up was rather slow and my interest started to diminish on the way. Also I missed Julian's humor a bit. There were glimpses of it but not enough to lighten the overall mood of the book.
It seems my expectations were too high this time. It's not like this is a bad book it really isn't but it just didn't grab me as much as her previous novels did. Nonetheless Spell Bound is the start to a new promising series and well I'm already hungering to see who we will meet in the next book (chants Quinn and Serena). If you like your paranormal romances on the serious side this is just the book for you....more

It touches topics which are, at least for me, hard to swallow but it also offers an erotic tale of love and finding your mate. We also have politcal intrigues, prejudices and social systems that will make you shake your head till it nearly falls off. But let me start at the beginning.
Devnar is the prince of his world and a warrior at heart. When he finds himself as a slave intended to become the concubine of the queen on a foreign planet his first instinct is to fight with all his might. But when he is assigned to the petite breaker Melania everything slowly starts to change. .So here we have a captured man who is forced to become a sex slave of a woman he never met. His "breaking" is full of forced pleasure and mind games with the only goal of bringing him to accept his purpose. I didn't really like this theme. It made me uncomfortable to see him forced to feel pleasure in such a way. It is disturbing to think about something like that happening. The whole procedure was a mix of pain as a penalty for unwanted behavior and a constant onslaught of sexual stimulation. Well, I admit that my feelings were mixed while reading about it. Some scenarios where sexy as hell but I always had this doubt about the rightness in my mind. This is a very touchy topic and it is nothing for the light of heart.
Melanie is more than just being a breaker. Her life didn't treat her fair but her goal is to make the wrongness that happened to some of her subjects better in her own way. She doesn't have much of a choice either- breaking Devnar is her only chance of ever get a concubine for herself. Her appearance is seen as ugly and unacceptable flawed on her world so when Devnar shows real appreciation for her body she can't believe her eyes. It doesn't hurt that he has his own kind of appeal (see yummy cover *sigh*).
As I already mentioned the relationship between these two starts in a rather unusual and controversial way. They stand on opposing sides and both have an own agenda. When the forced pleasure morphs into something natural and real the emotions start to change too. The mix of primal attraction and mutual compassion is breathtaking and well the sex scenes are unbelievable hot. Mayburn knows how to set the pages on fire. We a vast variety of encounters without drifting off into unnecessary repetitions.
The plot itself is strongly woven around the science fiction setting. The different cultural and social systems are introduced on the go and I never felt overwhelmed by the information. I loved that we learn all these tidbits about Melania through Devnar's eyes. The setting itself is disturbing in so many ways but it shows us how wrong society can go even when it started with the best intentions.
The Breaker's Concubine is a very sexy and erotic read with some controversial plot points. It has a great setting that wraps seamlessly around the plot about intrigues and inhuman politics. This book will take you to your limits and before you even noticed it pushed you over. I dare you to give it a chance.
I give The Breaker's Concubine 3 1/2 out of 5 stars....more

I wasn't sure what to expect or if I would even like to read about it. It did work for me and that rather good. *wink*
We meet Sabrina in the middle of the woods waiting for her blind-date with an alpha couple. She knows their names and which pride they belong to but nothing more than that. On the one hand she is excited and hopes to finally find her mates but on the other she's already prepared for dissapointment. Sabrina was fun- she is a beta but still she felt very strong to me. She took a chance with the blind date.
Madeline is a blond sex bomb or that is what her looks want to make us believe. She is after all a strong alpha leading a pack of shifters. She is desperate to find a girl that both, herself and her mate Nick would like. After a bad incident in their past Nick is reluctant to let another woman near Madeline even though they both need the release a beta could give them.
I loved the how this story just felt so smooth. The conversations between these two girls were awesome- they made the story so much more vibrant. The teasing and joking was fun to read about and well it was so hot to see them explore their sexuality. Surprisingly I liked that the girls met alone first and the first sexual encounter only happened between them. It was new and different to me but well very very hot.
The plot itself was a bit predictable but I think this story lives more through the character interaction. Amber Moon was a surprising fast read that will leave you hot and happy at the end. Shifters alone in the woods- what is not to love....more

It surprised me- in a very goodI was prepared to be thrown into a story like non I read by Burkhart before and that is exactly what Golden did to me. It surprised me- in a very good way. The setting and feel of this one are something special. An enthralling oriental world of intrigues and deception all wrapped around a foreign romance that enthralled me and didn't let me go till I read the last word.
We meet the golden eyed Jin- a young woman at the court of the Emperor. Her goal is too woo the Emperor into her bed because she is sure that it is her destiny to give him the release of his darker urges. She believes only she can give him what he truly wants. Her "love" for the Emperor seems foreign and perhaps even a bit missguided at first. For me, it felt more like an obsession based on things she thought to knew about him- a bit like "pop star" worshiping. When the story progresses we see where her love comes from and how it seems to grow with every interaction between our pair. Jin is a strong woman, not only because of her preference of bearing the pain her Emperor has to give her. She has a cunning mind and a set plan to reach her goals. But she is not stubborn- she knows how to improvise. She is really smart and not as submissive as you would think her to be.
The Emperor stays a mystery through the whole book. we get little glimpse of his character here and there but he always stays the figure she create in her imagination. His motives stay hidden till the end of the story. This actually increased the mystery and allure of his character.
Surprisingly the sex scenes in Golden worked for me. Usually I prefer the emotional ones where you know what both characters want. I always thought that the emotional aspect makes the sex really sexy for me but it seems this is also true for a one sided story. For the most time I thought that the Emperor didn't really care for Jin and still oh my the scenes between the sheets were hot. Well I should say that those are really dark and not shy of BDSM action. I loved it!
The plot itself was enthralling- the workings and intrigues of the court drew me in and I sat on the edge of seat begging for the good outcome. I loved how Burkhart penned all the different factions and their goals without leaving me confused or out of the loop. For those who know me I usually don't care much for historicals because the court aspect and the low regard towards woman puts me off. Well it worked in this one.
All in all Golden is more than I hoped for. It was a really fast read but still delivers everything that makes a story worthwhile- a unique setting and plot, a romance that will pick your curiosity and just the right amount of sexy times to give it the needed spice. A highly recommended read- take a chance and try something new....more
