This ultra short story (about ex-marine F.B.'s first date with super market hunk Matt), is a smutfest from beginning to end. Light, very hot and funny too. Here's an extract that best describes the book:
“Hey,” F.B. drawled.
His accent always got thicker in direct proportion to his level of horniness and at that moment his cock was getting ready to bust the fly of his camos wide open, making F.B. sound like Texas personified.
A 4,5 on the smut scale, a solid three stars in general. ...more

I was expecting something romantic and sweet. I had read the words 'Cinderella story' and 'like the movie An Officer and a Gentleman' in some reviews. So, safe to say: I was in for a shock. This is no Cinderella story. Unless Cindy's middle name is 'Slut' and her favorite pastime is to suck cock. Which still wouldn't have been bad, had this been erotica (PWP and lots of smut). I wouldn't have expected much more. This story, however, did attempt at some fluff and romance, with the way our hero Chance talks about cooking ("with the secret ingredient of love") and the way Chance and his love interest Brody declare their undying feelings... But just when I thought things would get nice and sweet, something really dingy would happen! I think this passage would best describe the book:
(here Chance is being made a pass at by a character named Tommy Clay, inviting him to his room)
Chance smiled and stared at him with puppy-dog eyes. Tommy's bulge looked very good, indeed. A few months earlier he probably would have gone back to the dressing room and buried his face between Tommy's legs. But all he said was, "I'd like that very much, Mr. Clay. But I really have to get organized here, and I'm really nervous." He looked down again at Tommy's crotch and wet his lips. It was growing. He would have let Tommy nail him a few months earlier, too. But he couldn't stop thinking about Brody's pitiful, unshaven face, sitting outside in the car. He couldn't stop smelling Brody's unwashed sweatpants. Sometimes, when he swallowed back, he could still taste Brody's balls.

Since the series is classified as erotic horror, I guess it more than fulfilled its premise. I’m loving the sex and I’m very much invested in the characters. But especially with this story I would have liked to see more. More of Michael’s family, more of his and Wild Bill’s life together, more of why they thought a four vamp/person commune in the middle of nowhere would be a positive change to their lives (because I wasn’t seeing that logic), more of their thoughts on their future... Maybe I want too much from an erotica novelette. But that’s a good thing, right? Hence the 4 stars. ...more

Good thing Wild Bill has followed him to Sioux Falls!
An entertaining, dark and sexy read. I gave it 3,5 stars because there were some bits which were unclear. Whether it was because of the vague descriptions of what was happening or because of the dialogues (Michael and Bill talk a bit, but say very little) or maybe just because I was tired, I don't know. Still: a good addition to a fun series. ...more

I love how JCP makes two seemingly very different men fit so well together. And I love how she gives us bits and pieces on the characters with each story. And I love even more how she manages to give her characters a twist. Because although Wild Bill is the big bad vampire, Michael is the one to watch out for… ...more

Everything was sterile, monitored, and scrubbed of personality. Vanilla.
Then the new neighbors moved in directly across the street, and I realized they were not vanilla pudding kind of people... i>
And so begins the story of Malcolm Small, an eighteen year old social outcast and his neighbor Wes, who slowly but surely becomes the sprinkle on his vanilla. We are taken on the journey of Mal’s sexual awakening (and boy: does he awaken) and are treated to a cute story with some very hot moments. I was slightly disappointed in the lack of nuances. Everything seemed black and white: the Bad Uninterested Snobbish Parents, the Closeted Bully, the Perfection that is Wes, etcetera. Still: I felt for Mal and fell for both him and Wes. A sweet story: 3,5 stars. ...more

But with his country's fate at stake, Kael resolves to give in to the torture he think he awaits. Only Warlord Taren turns out to be much more different than Kael had expected...
Concubine was an okay story with quite engaging characters. But unfortunately I've found that these kind of stories are not my style. I don't have a problem with BDSM or the slave theme in general (some parts were really hot), but I did have a problem with the fact that, despite all the love and respect between them, the men never were on equal ground. Kael remained a concubine (inside and outside of bed). Also: the story got a little silly towards the ending. With one of the last scenes to top it of: Taren talking war strategies with his second in command, while fucking Kael with a glass dildo. Talk about multi tasking... ...more

I had prepared myself for a brutal story. Violent, heart wrenching, filled with (non consensual) sex, BDSM and a long, hard road to anything remotely resembling a happy end. Nope, not so much. I never thought I would say this about a book from a series called The Slave Breakers, but: this was a cute story. And with 'cute' I mean light and sweet. And even a little fluffy.
So to me Bran's Story wasn't a real intense experience. But it was a very decent read with a simple, though nice story and good writing. 3,5 stars ...more

The cats have viral cycles which can’t be influenced and the transformation is accompanied by pain and loss of the conscious human mind. Being infected with the cat virus is nothing romantic or fancy: it’s scary, hurts like hell, eats away a great deal of your body weight and –depending on the type of strain you have- costs you your longevity.
Roan McKichan is a virus child: which means he is born with the cat virus and is used to being an outcast his whole life. On top of having the lion strain, Roan is a foster child, Scottish, gay and a redhead! Safe to say: he doesn’t have it easy. Except there is Paris Lehane; Roan’s superhunkydory boyfriend, formerly supermanwhore, now super manipulator.
The love between Roan and Paris is palpable. We get to feel their feelings of love, trust, insecurity and fear. The romance is very subtle but there is no sex (except for some kissing), the sex scenes are pretty much faded to gray.
That’s because Infected is mainly an urban fantasy series. The focus is very much on the story. The suspense plot is detailed, innovative and engaging. And while Roan is trying to solve his mystery cases, we try to solve Roan and Paris. Throughout the story we learn bits which we can piece together and I ended up falling in love with both Roan and Paris, while – mind you- they are imperfect in so many ways. Same goes for the secondaries, Gordo, Murphy, Matt, who are very lovable despite (or maybe because) their quirky ways. Roan’s cynicism gave the story a humorous tone, but –together with the impending doom of one of the beloved characters- it also added to the bitter sweet feel in general.
I can’t wait for the next book to come out in December. I do hope we get to see more of Roan and Paris’ antics in the bedroom (I don’t want to sound dirty but I want to see their love consummated goddamnit!).
A great read for urban fantasy-lovers! 4 stars. ...more
