A quote from the book that summarizes the 'moral' (without giving away any of the story) is "We try to do a little better than the previous generations and find out in th end we've made the same mistakes without intending. There were a lot of similarities with my families history so it gave me insight into some of the issues and struggles at that time. I also enjoyed the insight into the mother-daughter relationships and how previous generations affect the way we parent (whether we know the stories or not). It does have a little bit of the sanitized Christian perspective that keeps me from reading Christian novels but it also shows the complexity in human characters. (less)
