I am always so excited when a new book comes out so that I can spend some quality time with Eve and Roarke.
What I liked about this book was the main mystery / crime. It was brutal, but as much as it was brutal it was very much a crime that involved the mind as well and how much one person can twist another. The layers of the crime just seemed to keep coming with this one, just when you thought you knew it all, a tidbit was revealed and it just got more horrible.
I also loved how all the secondary cast of characters showed up. I love it when Mira can say something to make Eve squirm. Loved the bit with them about the wedding dress, she can only say it is a yellow thing, but 10 seconds later can describe Mira's wardrobe down to the accessory, and she doesn't get why that is weird.
I love the sniping back and forth between Eve and Summerset. Loved it when both of them acknowledged that they both enjoy it too, and how Eve admitted that Summerset got a better quip in than her.
And always great fun is a scene where Trina is there to put the goop on Eve and she complains.
I also found myself really drawn to Charity, who doesn't love a feisty 90 year old who is getting ready to renew her vows. She was just a hoot!!...more

I found I didn't really care for the main couple, so that aspect of the story until the end and the developments there bored me.
What I found that I really liked was all of the changes that seem to be taking place in their world. It seems more and more everyone is coming together against the Psy. I also like to see all the groups working together and sharing their knowledge. The Psy counselors seem to be moving against each other. I find this whole political maneuvering very fascinating....more

She is finally at a place in her life where she is happy with Quinn and they have come to a good understanding. She also is happy with her pack of 4 with Rhoan and Linader. So of course things have to get shaken up. Her first shake up surprisingly comes from Rhoan and Linader, really causing her to think about her life and what is going on, and what she really wants.
Riley's second and more serious shake up comes in the course of her investigation in her newest case for the Directorite, Kye is back. It is too bad that the person she has always been looking for, her soulmate, is such a despicible person with no morals. He of course ends up popping into every aspect of her case, causing her to have to deal with the soulmate bond. She ends up doing things she really can't fight against and isn't really happy with herself.
All along the investigation people are warning her about Kye, and just the bad guys in general and that she really has to not hesitate when it really counts. Unfortunately in the end the bond does make her hesitate, with great cost. She has to face what she did and didn't do and it takes an unexpected source to pull her back.
All in all this book was a great read, I can't wait for the next one!!...more

I love it when the brother's fight among themselves, and now that Lore is an official part of the family he is in on this as well. I am waiting for Sin to be included as she could kick their asses!!
Lore is in a difficult position this time around, kill a guy that is family or his sister dies, so even though he doesn't want to he is left with no choice. But of course being the macho man that he is he can't tell Sin or his brothers what will happen if he fails. The dynamics between all members of the family become more and more interesting as the story goes on and they are manipulated by old enemies and new faces that pop up, the main one being Idess.
Both Lore and Idess are haunted by their choices in the past that left them betraying their siblings. They find out that often the good thing to do isn't always the right one. As the 2 factions come closer and closer to battle more and more is brought to light about their past. In the end each of them does the right thing at a great cost to them.
This book ends in a hard place as it is difficult to say what happens without spoiling things and I can't wait for the next one as there are big questions that are left hanging....more

I had to restrain myself to not speed read my way through this one, but to sit back and slowly savor the book. I even showed the ultimate restraint and not stay up all night to finish the book.
There was so much going on in this book it is hard to review it without revealing spoilers. When the last book ended we knew Xhex had been kidnapped and Lash had been revealed to have special family ties.
So many heartbreaking things happen in this book that often I felt my eyes getting teary. But there were also some happy moments, some old hurts healed, new hurts made, and new discoveries made.
At times when reading I wondered what some of the off stories had to do with what was going on, but with each new nugget of info revealed in them you realized just how much they had to do with what was going on and to set things up for the next few books.
I can't wait for the next book and new adventures!!...more
