There’s nothing worse than a cruel, cunning enemy with time to kill—and my murder to plan.
With wicked Fire elemental Mab Monroe long gone, you’d think I could finally catch a break. But someone’s always trying to take me down, either as Gin Blanco or my assassin alter-ago. Now along comes the Spider’s new arch-nemesis, the mysteriously named M. M. Monroe, who is gleefully working overtime to trap me in a sticky web of deceit.
The thing is, I’m not the only target. I can see through the tangled threads enough to know that every bit of bad luck my friends have been having lately is no accident—and that each unfortunate “coincidence” is just one more arrow drawing ever closer to hitting the real bulls-eye. Though new to Ashland, this M. M. Monroe is no stranger to irony, trying to get me, an assassin, framed for murder. Yet, as my enemy’s master plan is slowly revealed, I have a sinking feeling that it will take more than my powerful Ice and Stone magic to stop my whole life from going up in flames.
In Poison Promise-book #11 M.M. Monroe was confirmed to be the daughter of Mab and her giant bodyguard Elliot Slater, now she is proving to be more devious than her mother as well as just as ruthless where Gin Blanco and her friends are concerned.
From the first this book was such easy reading to get consumed into that the pages flew past too fast, the down and dirty machinations employed by both M.M. Monroe as well as Gin were brilliantly executed and the final showdown was epic in it’s intensity!
Not even a minute was spent wondering if Gin would win, she is just that type of character who always finds a way to survive no matter what the cost to herself and this time was no exception.
With every new book this series just amazes and delights me, Gin Blanco-like a Timex-takes a licking and keeps on ticking!

The stunning young adult debut from international bestseller Harlan Coben is now in paperback!
Mickey Bolitar's year can't get much worse. After witnessing his father's death and sending his mom to rehab, he's forced to live with his estranged uncle Myron and switch high schools. Fortunately, he's met a great girl, Ashley, and it seems like things might finally be improving. But then Ashley vanishes. Mickey follows Ashley's trail into a seedy underworld that reveals that Ashley isn't who she claimed to be. And neither was Mickey's father. Soon Mickey learns about a conspiracy so shocking that it leaves him questioning everything about the life he thought he knew.
First introduced to readers in Harlan Coben's novel "Live Wire” Mickey Bolitar is as quick-witted and clever as his uncle Myron, and eager to go to any length to save the people he cares about. Follow Mickey Bolitar on his next adventure in "Seconds Away,” coming out in Fall 2012!
There is an estrangement between Mickey and Myron that started when the Bolitar brothers had a falling out and has carried over after Mickey’s father died. With the best of intentions Myron moved Mickey and his mother into his home, enrolled her in drug rehab and Mickey into the local high school but the road is rocky for all of them.
From the beginning of the story you can see where Mickey and his Uncle Myron share similar characteristics, from their athleticism to their ability to attract trouble the Bolitar boys are indeed undeniably related.
They also share an ability to befriend those who are not socially adept, in Mickey’s case that means the goth Ema and the nerd Spoon.
This was totally in character for a member of the Bolitar family, even though Mickey is a teen he has the same disregard for personal safety as his uncle and also the same knack for getting into tight spots thanks to getting involved in situations he should have stayed out of.
Not sure what the future holds for young Mickey but this first book left a lot of unanswered questions for readers so even though this particular story arc was pretty complete there is still room for future adventures which look forward to reading.

James Claussen has played Santa for years, but now that he's a widower, he's lost interest—in everything. So his daughter, Brooke, kidnaps him from the mall (in his Santa suit!) and takes him to Icicle Falls. She's arranged a special Christmas at the lodge owned by long-widowed Olivia Wallace and her son, Eric. And yet…Brooke wants Dad to be happy, but she's not ready to see someone else's mommy kissing Santa Claus.
Single mom Missy Monroe brings her kids to the lodge, too. Lalla wants a grandma for Christmas, and her brother, Carlos, wants a dog. Missy can't provide either one. What she'd like is an attractive, dependable man. A man like John Truman… But John's girlfriend will be joining him in Icicle Falls, and he's going to propose.
Of course not everything goes as planned. But sometimes the best gifts are the ones you don't expect!
Never expected to become engrossed in and than spellbound so easily by this story, a story which brings together a group of strangers and transforms them into friends and family!
Not having read previous Life in Icicle Falls books this was a grand introduction to the series, even though it came 6 books in.
The ambience that permeates the town of Icicle Falls is described in a manner that takes the reader right into the heart of everything, from the smell of roasted nuts to the sound of carolers and the shimmering lights glinting off the fallen snow.
Not only do we feel the magic of Christmas but we also feel joy for each character who is in need as they each find that this holiday season wishes long held in their heart are finally coming true in ways they never expected or planned for.
Having lost family at Christmas it was a very easy thing to empathize with both James and Olivia as well as his children and hers, it was even nicer to see their past memories of happier times overcome the pain of loss that lingered and be replaced instead with new memories filled with the joy of making someone else happy.
Fun as well as seriously uplifting this book will help create anticipation for a holiday that deserves more than just fancy wrapping paper, shiny bows and stress. If you are are looking to find a story that invokes the true spirit of Christmas you have found one, this was a fun engrossing tale that left me feeling nostalgic and happy at the end.
We all could use a holiday hideaway like the Lodge on Holly Road!

Hard times have come to Shenandoah County. The mill is on the verge of collapse, unemployment is soaring, and people are leaving, unable to find work, sell their homes, or pay their mortgages. A mysterious developer arrives on the scene, eager to bring a major project with high-paying jobs to this quiet, rural Virginia community. It seems like a dream come true, but dreams can quickly turn into nightmares.
When one reads the description for the story set up it seems very straight forward and pretty simple reading, however once one gets engrossed in the book it proves to have an intensity that belies the simplistic plot.
Not having read anything written by author Ronald Paxton was not exposed to any of the people or places he had featured in previous works. Now having finished Haven have learned that the characters in the Howard family were actually introduced in the 2012 book Winter Songs.
John ”Cowboy” Howard is the patriarch and owner with his wife Sarah Jane of the Wild Pony Ranch, their daughter Emma Reynolds is the manager and ranch vet, her husband Chase and son John Howard live with Emma on the ranch as well in their own home not far from the main house.
The troubles in Shenandoah County Virginia have not spilled over to include those who live and work on Wild Pony, with careful management and a strong marketing campaign they have managed to become financially stable and in fact are the biggest contributors to the local business economy.
When promises are made by the developer wishing to create a high dollar resort in the county the only one who seems willing to ask the town council to dig deeper into his past business dealings is John Howard, this causes immediate reprisals that result in multiple scenes that will stretch the readers emotions to the limit as disbelief wars with outrage at the cruelties that are inflicted because one man dares to act responsibly.
The tension ratchets higher as the rest of the tale unfolds, when it is all said and done this was a mix of uncovering the real purpose of the development project and learning more about the townspeople as well as the inhabitants of Wild Pony Ranch.
My favorite scenes were the times spent with John Howard watching the sunrise off Lookback Mountain, it was peaceful, serenely beautiful and with the addition of the wild stallion’s appearances awe inspiring as well!
There are some hard truths about human nature faced in this book, there are also some wonderful tender moments that offset the sometimes brutal ones that occur.

Shields up, sugar—things in Plum Orchard are about to get real.
Marybell Lyman is notorious for two things:
Her look. The wicked hairstyle, multiple piercings and practiced sneer that say: "Stay back—I bite."
Her voice. The syrupy lilt that's her bread and butter at Call Girls, the prim little town's flourishing phone-sex company.
Hunky handyman Taggart Hawthorn is mesmerized by the contradiction: such sweet tones inside such a spiky shell! He wants to know more about mysterious Marybell, to hear more of her sexy talk—all for himself.
But Tag's attentions, delicious as they are, have Marybell panicked. She's been hiding a long time. She's finally got a home, a job and friends she adores. She won't have it all snatched away by another stupid mistake—like falling in love. So when Marybell's past comes calling, she and the Call Girls will prove no one handles scandals like a Southern girl!
By now having spent two earlier ventures into the world of the characters who inhabit Plum Orchard Georgia this third book is liking coming home to find out what is going on with old friends. One of those friends is still kind of a mystery, Marybell Lyman is in your face with her multi-colored spiked hair-the Goth makeup and clothing-her piercings and most of all stay-away attitude so when she catches Tag Hawthorn’s eye she has mixed feelings about acting on the mutual attraction due to the fact that of all people if Tag finds out the secret she has been hiding she is afraid the explosion to follow will be of epic proportions.
Some of us never have to worry about where we will lay our head, what we will eat for a next meal, whether someone is there when we need a shoulder to lean on or a hug to help ease our worries. Marybell Lyman however learned very early on that these things were not to be taken for granted. Once grown she found herself for the first time with a stable lifestyle, that is until it was all taken from her!
Now living in Plum Orchard she has made friends with her fellow co-workers and created a home for herself that makes her feel safe and secure, the problem is will she fight for what she wants or once again run at the first sign of trouble when it comes calling thanks to meddlesome Louella Parsons?
Tag Hawthorn was once the owner of his own construction company, until he was swindled out of it and he lost everything including the woman he thought loved him until she proved she loved his money more.
Having further lost his way by allowing himself to wallow in misery Tag gives in to the lure of too much alcohol, he almost loses the support and love of his brothers Gage and Jax until he is forced to face facts and get help. Now living in Plum Orchard Tag finds himself finally getting to the point he can face his past and move on, when he finds himself fascinated by Marybell he realizes that it is much more and works even harder to straighten out his life so they can have a future together if possible.
Two broken people who finally find the one who allows the pain from past betrayals to slip away, at least until one of their past secrets comes to light and has the power to tear them apart forever.
This is the conclusion to Plum Orchard series and it is honestly the most inspiring story of them all as it takes a long hard look at just how easy it is to find oneself at the mercy of others being forced to do things to survive that one would never do otherwise! The intensity of the emotions you will experience once again as these beloved characters face public animosity and the possible loss of one of their own means the tissues need to be kept handy, the laughter that some scenes invoke however will make the tears worth shedding!

Mac Draper finally has everything he's always wanted: An amazing career. A New York City apartment. He's this close to being free of his past forever. But a mind-blowing encounter with the sexy yet tough-as-nails Lily St. Clare has him delaying his plans to put Crystal Lake in his rearview mirror for good.
She's finally found a place to stay...
For Lily St. Clare the charming small town of Crystal Lake is her haven - a place she can hide from her famous, back-stabbing family. It's as close to happy as she's ever been. Until an unforgettable night with tall, dark and tortured Mac Draper gives her a glimpse of what true happiness feels like.
Lily can't help but melt a little under the sizzling heat of Mac's touch. But Mac's scars run deep, and Lily's afraid she may be falling for the one man who can never return her feelings.
The latest book in the Bad Boys of Crystal Lake series is the story that fans have been waiting for. Mackenzie (Mac) Draper is the bad boy of the group whose tale we have wanted to know the particulars of since the New Years night when he and Lily St. Clare hooked up for a night neither one has forgotten since.
Having grown up with an abusive alcoholic for a father and a mother who chose her husband’s welfare over that of her five children Mac left Crystal Lake to make a life for himself in New York. Now in his mid thirties he has become successful with all the trappings that he thought would fulfill him, however the echoes of the past that he cannot erase still torment him and keep him from committing to anyone.
Lily St. Clare has found her place within the small town of Crystal Lake, growing up in a family of wealth and privilege was never all it seemed on the outside and the peace she has found in her life now means putting her past firmly behind her for good.
This story centers on Mac and Lily as it unfolds we find out that the cycle of abuse has touched Mac’s nephew when his younger sister Becca brings him home with her for refuge with their mother.
The emotions that gripped me while reading went from one extreme to the other before finishing this book, it took a lot of deep breaths during certain scenes as reading about abuse of any kind is hard but that involving an innocent child really rouses my protective instincts to the forefront. Luckily for fans of the series no matter how dark the subject matter it is handled with respect and sensitivity without becoming too overwhelming and when things work out for the characters the relief they feel is shared.
This is a story of two people whose initial attraction to one another is off the charts and leads to both of them finding a friend as well as a lover to heat up the sheets. What I find especially compelling about all of the books in this series is the fact that no matter how much events in the past still shape decisions that the characters make they manage to find a way to resolve old insecurities and move forward. This is most true about Mac, his biggest worry that he would turn out like his father is what has hindered him from allowing himself to fall in love. Lily is the woman who finally manages to break down his walls and you will so enjoy the journey the two take to their final HEA! Just have the tissue box handy as you will need them.

Having suffered at the hands of his first wife, Noble Britton refuses to fall into the same trap again. He wants to marry a quiet woman who will not draw attention to herself. Half-American Gillian Leigh attracts Noble, but this accident-prone beauty wreaks havoc on his orderly life. Reissue.
There is a trend amongst authors right now that I am enjoying immensely, they are re-issuing/re-releasing some of their older works and allowing fans to discover them and this series is one of those as the first three all have re-issue dates prior to newest book in August 2014.
This particular books back cover synopsis does not manage to convey even half of just how much is going on inside it’s pages, the reading was fast-fun and purely enjoyable while also using quite a few of the more well known formulas of a historical romance.
The way in which this is most unique however is the amount of times you will laugh out loud at some of the more outrageous exploits that Gillian Leigh manages to always find herself embroiled in throughout the story.
Noble Britton, Lord Wessex, is purely a typical romance hero in many respects but he has a vulnerable side that will appeal to any woman who finds themselves drawn to the tall quiet type with a devastatingly wicked sensual side!
As someone who has previously enjoyed paranormal romance works by the author this was a refreshing change of pace with an outspoken out-of-the-box historical romance heroine that was truly a joy as she managed to capture the hearts of everyone including myself as the story unfolded.
If you are looking for a break from the normal rather too serious historical romances you have found the perfect book, filled with the silly humorous mishaps that seem to follow Gillian no matter where she goes you will fall as deeply in love with her as the "Black Earl" Lord Noble Wessex long before the tale is told! Either that or you may feel it to be too much of a fluffy piece and give up, either way you will not be unaffected.
I look forward to maybe one day reading more of this series as still have Charlotte, Harry and Leo’s stories to enjoy.

In one vicious night, Kirby Brown’s world is torn apart. Her best friend is dead, killed by a madman who is now after Kirby, and she has no idea why. When the police prove incapable of protecting Kirby, she has no choice but to trust a mysterious stranger. And while she finds herself inexplicably drawn to him, she fears the strange abilities he wields.
An investigator for the Damask Circle, Doyle Fitzgerald, has come to Melbourne, Australia, to hunt down a killer. What he doesn’t expect to find is a cadre of witches capable of controlling the elements, a sorceress determined to take that power for herself, and a broken woman who is more than she seems. Doyle is certain that the reason behind the bloodshed lies in Kirby’s past—a past she has no wish to remember. Because Doyle isn’t the only one with magic in his soul: Kirby’s special gifts have the strength to destroy the world.
Like Circle of Fire book 2 Circle Of Death focuses on one couple who are brought together during a murder investigation by Damask Circle members.
However this time found myself totally delighted with both main characters as they clicked for me immediately upon being introduced to them, this in turn made the story much more enjoyable as it unfolded.
The writing also seemed to be smoother as the plot pacing and the way in which different story threads were connected flowed better as did the development of both Kirby and Doyle as their story lines were exposed, the two manage to uncover clues to the killer they are seeking as well as a relationship that is more believable since they do not instantly act upon their attraction to each other but let it develop a little more naturally as they spend time together.
Just like lots of other romantic suspense this one takes place in a short period of time but manages to impart a lot of action, tense moments as well as some surprises that keep you wanting to find out what comes next which all ties together to create a reading experience that is very easy to follow.
While there is a lot going on in this book that gives us glimpses into both Doyle and Kirby’s past it adds to the reality of the story and as things build every new reveal brings us closer to why Kirby is one of the women targeted by the killer.
Like first book in the series this book can be read as a stand alone since it concludes without a cliffhanger ending of any kind, a fact that I am particularly fond of as so many series lead from one book to the next.

In order to find her father's killer, Helena of York is forced to play the most dangerous game of her life. The Saxon noblewoman, now an outlaw, must adopt a false identity and pose as a Norman in the courts and great halls of Richard I's England. Should she be unmasked, her life will be forfeit. But Helena is willing to pay any price for her revenge. Stephen, Count of Dinan, once Richard's greatest friend and most able knight, finds himself an outcast from the court for reasons shrouded in mystery. Now known as the 'Black Baron', he finds himself a friendless outcast in a glittering world he has come to despise. Two dangerous destinies. The only goal in Stephen's life is to restore his honor and once again serve his king. The only desire in Helena's life is to kill the man who destroyed her father and her future. Then the 'Black Baron's' suspicions draw him into Helena's web of deceit and, together, they find themselves entangled in a greater conspiracy that threatens the throne of England itself and two embattled hearts that have allowed themselves to be touched by love.
Having been approached by the author with this book series gladly accepted a chance to read both the first and second in exchange for an honest review because quite frankly am enamored of the Arthurian legends and the infamous Robin of Loxley or as he is better known “Robin Hood”. Not disappointed when finished book one Diana By The Moon but when finished book two Heart Of Vengeance was even more impressed with the attention to even small details and the many references to historical events that added depth to the story created for the characters.
The action was interspersed with suspenseful moments that kept one anticipating what was coming next and the serious tones of the book were also offset with humorous byplay between Helena and Stephen as well as the pairs deepening of affections towards one another, which was allowed to develop at a pace that was believable as well as charged with heat.
Captivating tale, hated to put book down when real life chores interfered with reading. Helena and Stephen are matched well and the quest the pair end up undertaking together is full of suspenseful twists and dangerous turns. This was not only a fulfilling romantic suspense tale but one that showed the characters at their worst and their best as they sought to untangle the mysterious identity of the person who was behind the events that cost Helena her father.
This tale was filled with instances which easily allowed the reader to grasp the political maneuverings of the time, the drawbacks to being female and provided just enough contrast between serious events as well as those of a lighter note to truly create an intriguing tale for those of us who love history mixed with romantic elements.
I look forward to reading more from Tracy Cooper Posey in the future as she has written in several different genres that I enjoy.

He is Arthur's man. His duty is his life. She fears and mistrusts him. The only way they will survive is to work together.
Britain, 469 A.D.: Shortly after the Roman legions returned to Rome, leaving Britain open to Saxon attacks, Diana's abusive parents die during a Saxon raid on their villa farm, the same day her brother takes most of the male slaves and servants to join the rebel Celt, Arthur.
Diana, who no longer trusts anyone, must find a way for the women in her household to survive after the enemy has stolen everything. They struggle to eke out a living from the meager provisions remaining.
Alaric, proud Celtic warrior and trusted lieutenant to the upstart British leader, Arthur, has been sent by him to establish and maintain a line of signal beacons -- one of which must be built on a strategic hill on Diana's property.
His mission is critical to the security of Britain. Alaric must overcome his hatred of Romans if he is to fulfill Arthur's ambitions in the north. He forces Diana to agree in return for the protection of Alaric and his men. Diana is pulled into a deadly political net, when Roman British enemies, including the Bishop of Eboracum, take exception to her new Celtic allies.
A haunting tale of two lives touched by the coming of King Arthur, and two hearts and souls struggling to come together against odds as great as those against Britain itself. Only together will they survive, or else be sundered...forever.
Diana by the Moon is part of the Jewels of Tomorrow series
Reader Advisory: This book contains references to rape in war. Publisher’s Note: This book was previously published elsewhere.
In the times after the Roman legions withdrew from Britain the invasions of Saxon hordes caused the loss of life of many. Diana and the inhabitants of her families villa are some of the casualties of war. Even though she and other womenfolk survived the consequences of losing the menfolk whose labour provided for their families means privation and hardships heretofore unknown.
Diana herself lost her parents, older sister and brother-in-law during a Saxon raid and this thrusts a once shy retiring young woman into the role of head of house and responsible for the welfare of all those who were left alive by the raiders. Having taken on the task of providing for those in her care Diana has finally found the purpose for her life that she thought had passed her by, however by Roman law an unmarried female cannot possess nor manage property and this becomes a dilemma in her future.
Alaric is first and foremost a soldier, so when he finds himself having to negotiate a way which is acceptable to both Diana and himself that allows him to carry out his mission he is at first angered. However as time goes on and he becomes aware of the dire straits that Diana and her people face from lack of provisions to carry them through the winter his attitude changes and he enlists his men to add their labors to helping ease the burden as well as fortify the villas defenses.
Over time the daily interactions of Alaric and Diana draw them closer, their alliance becomes even more pressing when a mutual enemy tries to force Diana into an unlikely marriage. Their story is one of sacrifice, courage, loyalty and ultimately a love that erases boundaries of culture and upbringing providing hope for a better future for themselves and those who followed in their footsteps.
Like other well researched historical romances this one relies heavily on events that are common to the time period and add flavor as well as realism to the story constructed around it’s characters. My favorite legends are those of King Arthur so this was a great addition to showcase the man’s ability to inspire loyalty as well as his grand vision to unite the peoples of Britain.
A sweeping saga that combines bits of the legend of King Arthur and a love affair that heralds a new regime for the people of opposing cultures. Filled with suspense as well as darker subject matters this tale rings true and was a pleasure to read from start to finish!

Just how far are people willing to go to keep their secrets?
Protecting the citizens of Beartooth, Montana, is never an easy job. It's been one year, and Sheriff Dillon Lawson still feels guilty that he couldn't save his twin brother, Ethan. But the biggest test of his bravery comes when Tessa Winters arrives, claiming to be pregnant with Ethan's baby. At first, Dillon can't decide if this beautiful woman is a con artist or a victim. If Ethan didn't die in that car crash, then where is he—and why is he hiding?
Now, Dillon is prepared to do anything to uncover the truth—anything except admit his growing feelings for Tessa. But with violence threatening, Tessa and Dillon must trust in each other to save not only themselves but also Tessa's unborn child.
Being this is the fourth book in a series there is a lot that I missed, however the author did a good job of tying up the loose threads from the previous book with this one she also put in a lot of effort to make this story work as a stand alone.
There is no way to really get across how all the bits and pieces that are revealed in this book tie together without revealing too much. Suffice to say that since Dillon Lawson was a young man he had tried to help look out for and make things easier for his twin brother Ethan. The two were identical and growing up Dillon took great pride in that but for Ethan is was always a burden as he never felt comfortable as a twin, ultimately they grew apart with Dillon upholding the law and Ethan forever breaking it.
Tessa Winters comes along right as Dillon is distraught over the anniversary of his brother’s death a year earlier, outraged and pregnant she at first believes Dillon to be Ethan but after being presented with proof that Dillon was indeed the twin she never knew about Tessa has no choice but to accept that Ethan is long gone from her and her child’s life.
The truth of Ethan being missing rather than dead sets off a chain of events that take Dillon and Tessa on a search to find he and several of Ethan’s partners in crime which in turn sets off a chain of events that leads to even more startling secrets being revealed.
Weaving the prior mystery of what happened to Sheriff Frank Curry’s ex-wife and the current mystery of where Ethan is and why he faked his own death leads the reader through a labyrinth that will keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat more than once. As each thread of the story is unraveled and each mystery is solved Dillon finds himself caring more and more for Tessa and her unborn child, the question is will she return his feelings or will she once again turn to Ethan once they are reunited?
Like the other cowboy western romances read by author B J Daniels this was a great mixture of suspense, romance and family drama.

The stunning conclusion to the groundbreaking Scandinavian crime trilogy featuring a deadly game that blurs reality and fiction in a world obsessed with social media. It’s the middle of summer and Stockholm is preparing for the wedding of a beloved Swedish princess. Trying to move on with his life after the end of The Game, HP is still struggling to find his way when he receives an anonymous text message asking if he’d like back in. HP knows his participation has already put himself and his sister in danger and he’d like to ignore the text, but he also realizes he doesn’t know who to trust. HP tried to stay hidden and on the run, but he can’t escape the Game Master. Hoping to uncover the truth behind The Game and free himself from the Game Master’s control forever, HP decides to accept one more assignment.
Rebecca’s life has changed dramatically as a result of her brother’s involvement in The Game and she, too, is trying to move on and find the truth. And now she’s determined to uncover the connection between her late father’s past and her brother’s current predicament. But will Rebecca’s investigation into the past cost her the future? Taking action, HP hunts down a man he believes might be the Game Master himself. With a band of fellow former Game players, they infiltrate the Fortress in order to collect information that could be the Game’s undoing. But is he strong enough to take down The Game? And can he trust his fellow gamers?
A fast-paced, technological thriller that concludes the story that began in Game and Buzz, Bubble will have readers gasping for breath during the final showdown between HP and the Game Master.
In this final book of the trilogy Bubble: A Thrillerfocuses our attention once more on HP, the slacker whose inability to perform as a productive member of society has led him to his participation in the game that he now wishes he had never heard of!
As a main character HP is not one that inspires the reader to wholeheartedly cheer for the success of, he is a product of a culture in society whose lack of initiative and personal discipline leads one to actually be somewhat inclined to say that he has earned whatever punishment comes his way. However the fact is that the alternating story lines that are told from first his point of view and than that of his sister Rebecca do make for interesting contrasts in how two siblings could be so unlike each other in both their actions and reactions to events in the past that molded them into the person they have become.
This is a tale that outlines how easy it would be to formulate and execute conspiracies using the technology of todays world in a way that is both brilliant and corrupting.
The mastermind is finally revealed, the past and present have united and all is now explained, the game is over or is it really?
My advice would be to read the entire trilogy because none of the books are stand alone stories but rather they build upon one another from book to book.

A vampire hunter finds himself powerless to resist a bewitching stranger's dangerous magic in Michele Hauf's latest romance.
In all his years of battling the undead, Kaz has never seen bloodlust like this. And as a Knight of the Stake, it's up to him to find out who's responsible for the mayhem sweeping the streets of Paris and put a stop to it. Kaz's task becomes infinitely more complicated when a very attractive witch wants to help.
With her quirky charm and irresistibly kissable lips, Zo just feels right to Kaz, the way no mortal woman ever has before. But as a sworn enemy of the supernatural, can he really trust a witch? Especially one with dangerous secrets of her own?
My first thoughts on starting this was how easily and quickly the story drew me in. The beginning starts with 16 year-old Kaz fighting off his first vampire and soon segues into an action packed alley brawl with 4 more years later.
As action packed as the story began once Kaz connected with Zoe things seem to lose their momentum, which was funny because a lot happens between the two together and seperately throughout the book.
After giving it much thought the main reason for the pacing seeming to feel off was the fact that the clues to what was going on did not gel for either Kaz or Zoe until way late in the game, it just took too long for the dots to connect that the particular case Kaz was working on and Zoe’s magical secret project had something in common.
Have you ever watched a game show, maybe Wheel Of Fortune, and gotten the clues while the contestants just shook their heads. It is so frustrating because no matter what you cannot reach them with the answers, it felt the same way throughout the investigation into who, what, when, where and the why of the addictive substance which was wreaking havoc on the Vampire community of Paris and which caused the death of two of Kaz’s friends.
I felt like the story kept circling around revealing the puzzle pieces to Kaz and Zoe until everything came together about three quarters of the way and fell into place like dominoes. It made room for the pairs romance to grow but it also felt like there could have been less going on and things would have gotten solved sooner.
The book still was enjoyable, the relationship between Kaz and Zoe grew naturally, the secrets in their pasts were resolved allowing each of them to finally feel free of the conflicting emotions each had dealt with alone for years and the villain was brought to justice in an ironic twist of fate allowing the investigation to close.
Not a bad way to escape reality just not something that felt totally cohesive from start to finish as would read in fits and starts because for some reason just could not find the rhythm needed to keep me from putting book down.

Jamison Matthews has lusted after Ryder Montgomery since she was a preteen. But now that Ryder and her brother's band, Shaken Dirty, has made it huge, she's just one of many pining for the brooding lead singer. Too bad Ryder still sees her as a little sister. Not that it matters. Her brother would never allow it, and the last thing Jamison wants is to be another notch on a rock star's bed post. Even if it's Ryder's.
Ryder doesn't deserve happiness. After his fame destroyed his last girlfriend, he swore he'd never fall in love again. So when Jamison, the girl he's been in danger of loving for years, joins the band on the road, he'll do anything to deny the sparks between them--even after one hot night together. But Jamison is determined to show Ryder that he's worthy of love--her love--and that she's all grown up and ready to play.
[On a personal note growing up in the time of MTV and VH1 watching rock music videos it was so easy to "feed" my fantasies with the long haired, tattooed, pierced and physically ripped male specimens who filled my television screen daily and my dreams nightly.
My own personal real life crush however was on the young man who lived down the street from us. His long brown hair/tight jeans/tighter tees, sexy guitar playing, rock music singing self was only a few years older than me but in our small South Texas town his (in my naive eyes) "worldly experience" was very appealing to a girl who lived a very sheltered life thanks to a very overprotective father.
Despite misgivings that same "Rock God" and I have been married close to 32 years, he still wears tight jeans and plays and sings rock and roll music and I still have a "crush" on him for it all these years later! Good thing he does not mind my "crush" on book characters like Ryder, right?]
Rock bands and their "bad boy members" have long been some of my favorite lead male characters in a contemporary romance. Ryder Montgomery personifies such a character, right down to the tight jeans and tees that hug every delicious inch of the "rock god" front man for the mythical band "Shaken Dirty"!
Jamison Matthews for all intents and purposes is pretty much treated like the kid sister of the bands members, Ryder in particular seems to want to never remove her from that status and after 10 long years of being in love with her big brothers best friend she is determined to at long last prove she is a grown woman who knows her own heart's desire!
My favorite scenes between Jamison and Ryder brought me to tears as the emotions portrayed were so raw and so real that you just want so badly for the two to work out as they totally belong together.
With what happened in his past Ryder feels like he can never take a chance on hurting Jamison and he constantly pushes her away time and time again. Here is his explanation: The chemistry between him and Jamison might suddenly be off the charts, but that didn’t mean there could be something between them. Because there couldn’t be. He wouldn’t allow there to be.
Later on in the story there are a couple of scenes where Jamison feels lacking and unsure that what Ryder feels for her is more than just base lust, you will melt like I did:
She felt beautiful when he looked at her like that, when he touched her and held her and stroked her like she was the only woman in the world. She knew it was a lie, knew he’d probably be with another woman before the week ended, but she couldn’t bring herself to care. Not when he was looking at her like she was his whole world.
He stopped kissing her abruptly, tilted his head up until those gorgeous onyx eyes of his blazed into her own. “Jamison?” he asked, his voice still husky with desire. “Are you okay?” And just that easily, she relaxed. Hearing him say her name, knowing she was more to him than some nameless, faceless body soothed her as nothing else could have.
He smiled then and her heart stuttered a little in her chest. Because it wasn’t the smile he gave the hoards of screaming fans, wasn’t the smile he gave the other guys or his friends or even the women he slept with. She’d seen all those smiles a hundred—a thousand—times through the years. No, this was his Jamison smile. The one he kept just for her, and the fact that he was giving it to her now helped settle her like nothing else could.
Time on the road together brings Jamison closer to the entire band, each member having at some point in her life helping her through a few milestones of girlhood thus cementing their place as friends she could count on when needed. Jamison had missed that since the band's career started to take off and their touring took them on the road for long stretches of time.
Taken out of context of the intimate moments between Jamison and Ryder these snippets of scenes in no way completely convey the intensity that comes through as you read the story but they do give a glimpse of just how passionately sincere the characters emotions are, particularly this heartfelt confession Ryder makes to Jamison when he realizes just how much she has come to mean to him despite his best intentions:
"I never knew I could feel about anyone the way I feel about you. It’s so huge, so monumental, that it terrifies me. Because you see me. You see all the way inside of me to places nobody else even knows exist. And I can’t understand, can’t imagine, what someone like you could possibly see in someone like me.”
The author touched upon the band members relationships briefly, more so their individual backgrounds with Jamison which explained why they were all so protective of her, and I look forward to the further exploration of each character in future works about the group as they release. As a longtime fan of rock'n'roll and the "bad boys and girls" behind the music this contemporary friends to lovers romance hit every emotion and it has the potential for a series to rival that of one that I have loved since the beginning of Sinners On Tour written by author Olivia Cunning, without being quite as raunchy but still holding it's own and looking forward to the rest of the band members tales in future!

The 1980’s: it’s the time of Dungeons & Dragons, banana clips, and Atari. Jonathan Schwartz is growing up in a family like no other. His sisters, Nadia, the dark genius, and Olivia, the gorgeous tease and temptress, manipulate Jon and his friends for their own entertainment. And his Holocaust survivor grandparents? Their coping techniques are beyond embarrassing. A disastrous visit to Jon’s class by his grandmother unhinges his famous father, setting off a chain of events that threatens to send the dysfunctional Schwartz clan up in flames once and for all. Fun & Games is a heartbreaking and hilarious story of faith, family secrets, betrayal, and loss—but it’s also a tale of friendship, love, and side-splitting shenanigans.
Never let it be said that a title does not capture the essence of a book, there is quite a bit of "fun" in this story and a whole lot of "games" but in both cases the meaning of the words are different than their actual use by the author.
We start out with Jon and his 9th grade friends, Cory, Jake and Milo at the Schwartz home having a normal get together for their group. Dungeons and Dragons may be the game of choice but the boys real motivation this particular night seems to be centered upon a chart that they have created called "The Purity Test", a list of 100 questions that determined ones "Purity Rating".
The further we get into the story however it's simple beginnings start to delve into darker areas that provide a tone far different than simple "Fun & Games".
The day to day accounting of the characters lives takes us through harrowing familial drama, devastating personal loss of loved ones, the teens hijinks during their 4 years of High School followed by the pitfalls the boys are faced with when they go away to college all the while allowing the reader ample time to adjust to the changes occurring as Jon and his friends learn that growing up is not exactly what they imagined it would be.
The trauma at the end is offset by a final revelation that finally allows Jon to start to come to terms with the past and look forward to a brighter future. This story will make you sad in places, make you smile and laugh in others and probably at inappropriate places too, it will tug at your heartstrings as you empathize with the characters when remembering similar times in your own life and most of all it will remind us that no matter what you think there is always someone whose family is just a little wackier than your own!
Growing up in the 80's never played D&D but do remember some of my peers doing so, luckily also did not have quite such a kooky family nor were my eclectic friends as zany as Jon's but this book did bring back goofy memories just like some of the ones portrayed in the story.

Daniel Zurenski feels like a total loser, but he's about to encounter a crazy array of characters who are going to change his life forever. It starts with Fred Zimmerman (and his unique pet) who scrubs pots at The Spaghetti Barn restaurant and accidentally sets off a disastrous chain of events. There's the volatile restaurant manager Paolo and his greasy head chef nephew Tony. Then there's a fanatical sports reporter named Bruce Jagerski who dreams of winning a marathon if only he didn't have such a bizarre running style. All come together during marathon race weekend in this hilarious tale which will keep you guessing right to the finish line.
Daniel Zurenski's tale about how he met his wife is a convulated comedy of errors that are so cleverly concocted and so seamlessly blended together when you finish this very short story you will feel compelled to read it again to double check for yourself how certain scenes played out.
I thoroughly enjoyed the way the author took random events and then wove them into the story in a way that they ended up creating a thread that changed Daniel's whole life in a very short period of time. Short though it is this story will warm your heart as well as give you a few shocks when least expected.
For sure you will cheer Daniel on in his efforts to grant his mothers last wish, you will also laugh yourself silly before you finish the story and smile along with Daniel after he tells how he met his daughters mother!
I will say that my favorite part was the mayhem caused by Fred and poor Rambo, you have to read it for yourself to find out why.
Human/vampire relations are in turmoil in a stunning new series by New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author Susan Krinard
Tensions between human and vampire factions are escalating. Peace hangs in the balance. And like two ill-fated stars, Alexia Fox and Damon are destined to collide. She's a seductive human operative on a mission to infiltrate an illegal vampire colony. He's a vampire and represents everything she loathes-and all that she desires. Their attraction is scorching, immediate...and could explode like the fragile truce they've both been fighting independently to preserve. Now the world's last hope hinges on their ability to work together. As enemies they are doomed, but as allies they just might save the world.
What I did not like or what gave me the most pause as I read the book were a couple or things:
1. The two main characters internalize more than they show by word or deed, even their actions are not consistent with how they seem to feel at times and it can be a bit confusing if not downright misleading.
2. The at times overwhelming amount of information that could have been minimalized by the characters just taking action rather than "thinking" things to death.
3. The fact that the main characters are involved almost from the beginning while at the same time they fight their mutual feelings for each other, even though they become physically intimate, and they show no real trust in one another until almost the end of the book which makes it hard to see them as a couple.
What I did like and what kept me enjoying reading the story:
1. The world building done by the author was concise and well developed.
2. The different factions of Vampires are explained in just enough detail to set them apart from each other and keep track of who is who easier.
3. Alexia Fox, the dhampire Aegis agent, is a strong leading female character whose mission puts her at war with herself emotionally even though she tries not to let it hamper her ability to complete her job.
4. Damon is very believable as a Vampire who has the ability to walk in daylight with full immunity to the sun, his race the Darketans are not quite unique to vampire lore but rarely explored and my favorite type of vampire hybrid.
While I felt a bit of confusion trying to keep up with the different characters and their allegiances at times on the whole this was a nice easy read that the author has detailed very believably and her characters are developed in a manner that allows the reader more time to focus on the the action in the scenes rather than spending a lot of time worrying about who is doing what or why they are behaving the way they are.
There is a lot of political maneuvering that takes place in the story, at times it overshadows the main plot point and at times it also dictates the characters actions but in the end it all boils down to whether or not enmity can be set aside for the good of both human and vampire alike. By the time you finish this book you will have a new appreciation for just how hard such a resolution is to achieve. Kudos for the way in which the author dealt with the many problems as they arise throughout the story.

A John Pritkin short. This story is set prior to the beginning of the Cassie Palmer series. It nonetheless contains spoilers for all five books. This is a little story about a house. It was written in answer to a question that came in for the Facebook Q&A asking: "How old is Pritkin's house in Stratford? In the book he stated that he had owned it for over 100 years, but I wondered when the house was actually built and if someone had owned it before him." I started to answer it in the Q&A, but thought it deserved better. So here it is, and hope you enjoy.
What an utterly delightful tale to clue fans of John Pritkin in on how he came about acquiring his home, a place that could have been tailor made for the man if one believes in fate coming true!
Short and sweet this is as others say a side of Pritkin that we do not engage with often, so happy that the author included this little tale in with the series as a prequel free read....more
