I was so happy to go back to the Crimson City world that Liz created for us oh so many years back now. The familiar characters of The Vampire House of Dumont and the Mechs and the Weres and all the interplay made for a very easy reading experience once again. I hope at some point in the future due to fans interest Liz gets to revisit this particular series again but if not it was a good ending as it stands. I do not do spoilers so will not give particulars, if you have not read the series what are you waiting for? The books are as follows and can be read as stand alones in my opinion but you would miss out on lots of inside information into the characters from book to book if you do so: Crimson City #1 by Liz Maverick (out 2005 MMPB) A Taste of Crimson (Crimson City #2) by Marjorie M. Liu (out 2005 MMPB) Through a Crimson Veil (Crimson City, #3) by Patti O'Shea (out 2005 MMPB) A Darker Crimson (Crimson City #4) by Carolyn Jewel (out 2005 MMPB) Seduced by Crimson (Crimson City, #5) by Jade Lee (out 2006 MMPB) Crimson Rogue (Crimson City, #6) by Liz Maverick (out2006 MMPB) Shards of Crimson (Crimson City, #7) by Liz Maverick, Patti O'Shea, Carolyn Jewel, Jade Lee (out 2007 MMPB) Crimson&Steam #8 By Liz Maverick (out 2009 MMPB)(less)

I got the book in 2010 from Paperback Swap and had it sitting on my shelf until pulled it down to read to sort of put me in the mood for Valentine's Day... It did, oh boy did it ever! I loved the beginning where Claire and Ty meet, a crowded room on New Year's Eve and their eyes meet and POW a connection is made... When the two actually bump up against each other and Claire goes up on tiptoe and lays one on him at Midnight you can see the fireworks go off on the pages of the book! I normally do not read Harlequin romance books, it has been many years in fact since I have had as many on my bookshelves as I do now... This book though was just what I needed to get my heart pumping, my blood flowing and my imagination into steamy overdrive... What was the best part of the book was the fact that both main characters did not feel cliqued, they were each unique people who felt very much like a couple that I would be more than happy to be friends with.. They both had integrity and grit and passion for life and especially insatiable passion for each other! The sex scenes were very "naughty" and also very well paced, the main story of how the two worked out their differences to allow the budding relationship to work out in the end was very well though out and played out in a manner that felt natural to each characters personality... There were a few snafus that almost caused Claire and Ty to be over before they even started, luckily they were able to work through those and in doing so had some very soul searching moments that cemented the relationship... I am very happy to say that I enjoyed the book, enjoyed the scenes in the story line where Claire and Ty at last both came to the conclusion that their love was worth fighting for and the resulting HEA was well worth the wait! Now I can say that as a new fan am looking forward to reading the rest of the books on my shelf by Julie Kenner ... I have her trilogy of The Blood Lily Chronicles and the two books in her Beth Frasier series to read... I also have her first three books in her J.K. Beck The Shadow Keepers series which will have 3 more books to add to it in January-March release of 2012.. I am excited to read all of these and hope you will join me in making Ms. Kenner's books your next reading experience!(less)

The rest of the stories were not as memorable but still enjoyable offerings by the respective authors also included in the anthology.(less)

I did read, enjoyed the return to Sea Haven and even mostly liked Stefan and Judith but cannot find it in my heart if this series continues to finish it as the stories are just becoming redundant in many ways.(less)
A LOVER'S PROMISE Connor Grant left his first love in the Highlands, vowing to return after serving in the king's army. Seven years later, he is still fighting for the crown, and his victories are legendary-both in the battlefield and in the bedroom. Yet he's never forgotten his bonnie lass. And he certainly never expected to see her amidst the splendor of the British royal court: beautiful, breathtaking, and tempting him past the point of no return. A LADY'S DESTINY The night he left, Mairi MacGregor banished Connor from her life forever. Now her heart belongs only to Scotland. As part of a secret alliance, she journeys to London in search of information . . . only to find herself face to face with the one man she swore she'd never trust again. Though Mairi's body still craves Connor's touch, she can't forgive his betrayal. But a traitor lurks in their midst and to protect her beloved Highlands, Mairi must make a leap of faith and join forces with Connor-even if it means losing her heart to him again.
Tamed by a Highlander just like the rest of the books written by author Paula Quinn is a passionate tale. A story about two people who at times you want to beat over the head so they would just get it together and let the past be just that, the past. For those who enjoy conflicted love stories filled with the ultimate in political maneuverings and set during a period of history that is both romantic and intriguing, to say the least, this is going to be one to put on the keeper shelf.
Mairi is a 22 year old headstrong highland woman who never forgot or forgave her first love Connor Grant when he picked his duty to England and the service of his King over her love 7 years before. Reunited again all these years later the two are at odds with each other but at the same time cannot ignore the attraction that never died.
Reading this book was a history lesson, a lesson that love and lust are intertwined, a lesson that no matter how well you think you know someone there are still things about them to be learned and most of all this is a story of forgiveness and fulfilling a destiny that will not be denied!
Readers of Historical Romance who enjoy political intrigue and following the twists and turns that occur when two strong willed people try to understand each other after years of feeling like they no longer have anything in common will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next.
Welcome to Mythos Academy home of many young men and women who on any campus would blend right in just by looking at them, that is far from the truth...moreWelcome to Mythos Academy home of many young men and women who on any campus would blend right in just by looking at them, that is far from the truth because they are descended from a long line of warriors gifted by the gods and goddesses of legend and mythology. Gwen Frost is nothing like her peers, she is just a 17 year old girl who is still reeling over the loss of her beloved Mother so when a Professor from the Academy comes to her home and tells her Grandmother it is time for Gwen to enroll it is a huge adjustment from public High School.
The Frost women have power, some have healing abilities, some like Gwen have the power to "see" through touching an object or person, some like her Grandmother are psychic and can see into a person's immediate future. Gwen cannot understand how those powers qualify her as belonging in the same league as the female Valkyrie students or the male Spartans, after all as far as she knows her magical ability is not strength based but more of an intellectual process.
Touch of Frost was a wonderfully fun and happily engaging first book in the Mythos Academy series. As the first Young Adult novel penned by author Jennifer Estep it had a solidly constructed world as well as strong well fleshed out characters. Though the reader figures out what is going on before Gwen does we approach from a different angle than she did as we are not embroiled in the action as it takes place. I enjoyed immensely the fact that the author was able to incorporate references to several of her other series in the story, it was a fun journey learning about the students and the teachers backgrounds along with Gwen as well as her own as the tale progressed. There was an immense satisfaction watching Gwen as she went from odd-man-out to having some friends and a sense of pride in herself that was lacking in the beginning.
There is a lot of time spent in this book with Gwen thinking things through, it gives us a good insight into why things happen and how as well as a first person perspective on what kind of person Gwen is. This young woman is another somewhat strong willed female character but she also has a softer vulnerable side that carries over into her ability to want to help others even when she does not really like them. Of course she also makes a bit of money by using her gift to find "lost" objects for her fellow students so her wanting to help is not always done without a price, when it really counts though she comes through and proves her heart is in the right place.
I felt that by the time the last page had turned that not only did Jennifer Estep once again prove why she is an auto-buy author for myself and other fans of her adult series but that when the next book Kiss of Frost releases at the end of November 2011 I am not the only person who has pre-ordered a copy to read!
[I have to say thank you to Melissa at Were Vamps Romance whose giveaway allowed me to have a chance to read this book and also thank you to the author Jennifer Estep who contributed to the giveaway and sent me a brand new autographed to me copy. This in no way altered my opinion of this highly anticipated book, my review are my honest thoughts and in no way swayed by the fact the book was a free copy.]

When Delicate Freakn' Flower first came to my attention first thought was that I had to get a copy to read for myself! However being that not only have I bought too many real books as well as digital ones in the past few months kept putting off getting it. Then came the blog blitz giveaways hosted by The Bookish Snob Promotions and the giveaway by Tishia at Paranormal Opinion Blog on the 16th came to my attention and so I took a chance and luckily won a copy of my own! (many thanks to Tishia and Eve!)
This was a book that was greatly anticipated and it did not disappoint in the least when I sat down and devoured it on Saturday after the author sent me my copy on July 27th.
Naomi is a wolf shifter whose family consists of hulking brothers and a father who engaged in daily slugfests since she was a little girl, needless to say nothing fragile survived their constant shenanigans. Growing up in the chaos was something that she hated and when grown and living on her own she vowed never to get involved and mate with a shifter herself. Fate has other plans and in an ironic twist Naomi finds herself at of all things a Lacrosse match with her friend Francine and much to her consternation she also finds not one but two shifter mates playing for the home team!
Ethan is a Kodiak bear shifter, a man of few words but strong passions and just about as far from sedate and bland as he can possibly get. Javier is a hot cat shifter. all smooth lines and sexy moves guaranteed to make any woman want a taste. Together they make an awesome sight and soon Naomi finds herself unable to think about anything but the two.
This was the best look at a relationship of three characters that walked a tightrope between what their nature demanded and what was dictated by the demands of one determined young woman. Not only did Naomi get more than she bargained for so did Ethan and Javier, but in the best manner possible!
If you are looking for an erotic paranormal romance that steps outside the box you need look no further, not only did author Eve Langlais imbue this book with heated scenes between Naomi and the guys but also took the time to present us with an in depth look into Naomi's family as well. May I just say that if I had 5 brothers and a father as rowdy as hers my sanity would have fled before I ever grew up! The fact that Naomi was determined to not have her own life lived in turmoil was funny because she herself had a tendency to "act first and think later". This was a wonderful romance, a great look at how much family means and how they all pull together in a crisis and also a story that kept the reader turning the pages and following along to see just how long Naomi would outlast two determined males in their quest for her commitment to them for the long haul.
For anyone looking for a full length erotic paranormal romance I can highly recommend you read a copy of Delicate Freakn' Flower for yourself, and I dare you to pick between Ethan and Javier as that will be the hardest decision you ever had to make!(less)
