Can you love a zombie? If you had asked me that before reading Warm Bodies I would've said, "Eww, that's gross!" But R is just so freakin' lovable.
R iCan you love a zombie? If you had asked me that before reading Warm Bodies I would've said, "Eww, that's gross!" But R is just so freakin' lovable.
R is a zombie, he doesn't remember his name or anything else about himself, he likes music and is very eloquent... for a zombie. He doesn't like causing pain but can't help his hunger for human flesh and brains. He lives in the airport with lots of other zombies, some of whom are far more decomposed than him. He sometimes goes out in raiding parties to eat and bring back food for the others, and it's during one of these raids that R finds Perry and eats his brain. R gets flashes of Perry's life including his girlfriend Julie. Feeling like he needs to protect her, he takes her home with him, along with some scraps of Perry's brain.
While keeping Julie safe with him, she and R slowly grow closer. After it becomes too dangerous at the airport they begin the treck back to the stadium (where all the living people live). During their time together R continues to get flashes of Perry's past (long after the last of Perry's brain has been consumed) even speaking to him in his mind. The more time R spends with Julie the more alive he starts to feel and soon they find out their relationship has consequences niether of them could have predicted.
This book was very enjoyable, I know YA paranormal romances are a big deal but I never thought there could be one involving a zombie, so this was a very nice surprise. I should say that even though this is a YA book the characters are a little older than I thought they'd be, Julie is 19 and while R doesn't exactly know his age Julie says he seems to be somewhere in his twenties. The character of Julie is also really great, she's fiesty and strong but also kind and forgiving. If you like paranormal romances but want to try something a little different than I suggest you give Warm Bodies a try, it's definitely worth it....more
Wow, is all I could really say after finishing this. I totally didn't see that ending coming and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. It tookWow, is all I could really say after finishing this. I totally didn't see that ending coming and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. It took me a while to get a hold of this, and I really enjoyed the first two, so I was excited to finally read this and it did not disappoint. I'm not sure if the author is planning anymore books for this series but he definitely should, because it's awesome and I need more! The second book is still my favorite, it really creeped me out, but this is still amazing and I loved every second of it. I absolutely recommend this if you liked the first two, and if you haven't read them yet...well then you're just crazy and need to read them as soon as you can!...more
