Even though I was looking forward to reading this once I started I realized I just wasn't in the mood for it, so that might have something to do with my rating. That being said, this wasn't exactly what I thought it would be; I felt nothing for the characters nor did I feel anything between them, in fact the romance didn't really seem to start till very near the end of the book, so if your looking for a hot and heavy YA romance this is definitely not it, this is much more of a sweet, slow and realistic buildup. I kinda feel like I would've liked this a lot more if I had read this at a different time, so take this review with a grain of salt I suppose....more

Jeremy and Claudia are two of the most selfish and childish people, well more Jeremy than Claudia but she really annoyed me at times as well. I just didn't care about all these bad things that kept happenning to them because I just felt (perhaps unfairly so) that they deserved some of it.
And just for the record, if I ever had a husband who did what Jeremy did there would never be an invitation to crash on my couch, not even for one night....more

(actually the library just happened to get this in the day before I left) Yes, I did in fact read this in one day because I could not put it down.
17 yr. old Lochan is a straight A student but suffers from social anxiety and panic attacks, his 16 yr. old sister Maya has friends but only sees them at school because of her hectic home life. Besides the normal school and homework, they have to cover for their alcoholic and neglectful mother by taking care of their three younger siblings. Housework, homework, shopping, cooking, getting money from their continuously absent mom, and always making sure at least one of them is there for their siblings are some of the things Lochan and Maya have to deal with, but they always have each other for support. They eventually realize their feelings for each other run much deeper than they ever thought.
The summary for this book leaves something to be desired (mine probably does to) and I never would have read it had it not been for all the 4 and 5 stars it's received, I was very curious how a book about incest between siblings could be that great, but it really was. It was heartbreaking, because part of me wanted Lochan and Maya to have what they wanted, just so they could both finally have happiness in their lives, but the other part of me knew they could never really be happy that way, and if they continued on the path that they were headed it could only end badly.
I think the really amazing thing Suzuma did, was make me care about these characters so much I no longer cared about their choice that was so fundamentally wrong, only about the consequences I knew they would eventually face because of it. The subject matter in this book may be hard to read about for some but Suzuma doesn't condone it, only tells a story with it....more
