(view spoiler)[My main complaint is that it seemed odd to have Andrew(Darcy) actually dating Lauren(Caroline) instead of merely serving as an escort to his best friend's sister throughout the debutante season. Although he never really seemed that fond of her, and was only dating her because their parents expected it, it seemed odd to me that he would have kept dating her the whole time he was secretly falling for Megan(Lizzie), even past the point where he was declaring his feelings for her. The only other thing that comes to mind, which was kind of bugging me but I couldn't figure out why until I read a few other reviews: this book is clearly marketed as YA, and felt like a YA book both in tone and voice, yet it featured some pretty mature facts scattered throughout, particularly (view spoiler)[all the sex that Hank and Megan were having, and then the quickly detailed history of Hank and Georgie's sexual relationship. (hide spoiler)] Obviously I don't think YA needs to be completely free of adult themes and sexual situations, but I would hope that they would be treated with a bit more care and thoughtfulness. That's all....more

In cases where I don't have time to fully write my review, I'll jot some notes done right away and then revisit it to fully write it out. Unfortunately, I didn't return to this one right away, and my notes a little confusing, so I will leave you with this rather amusing and only partially formed review.
Supernatural aspect - not exactly time travel
Idea of trying to figure out self identity, how you become a person. How you are influenced by others (Matt as alcoholic, for example). Trying to fit in vs feeling alienated
Idea of truth. What is a true story?
Great book for teens, but also for adults. What are you willing to risk your life for? Story of Abraham and Isaac, same as story of girl who fell in love with ghost (aka Natalie's story)
Why did Matt die in Nat's world and not Beau's?...more
A lovely book about love and how it shapes both our life and death. It's true that death is inevitable, but if you open yourself up to truly loving, despite the odds and the consequences, then you have no cause for regret, no matter the outcome.
It was a little hard at first to wrap my mind around the characters of Love and Death. How and why do they and the Game exist in our reality? As much as this was a story about Henry and Flora, it was also a story about Love and Death, and their relationship throughout the centuries with one another.
One of my favorite parts of this book was its setting - I love Seattle, my hometown, and hearing it described, both in atmosphere and in location, is always a joy. I was not shocked to read the author was born and raised here, as I could truly feel her love for this city....more
I love listening to Mindy read me books - it feels like I'm sitting in my car chatting with my best friend.
I enjoyed each essay, but I wish the bookI love listening to Mindy read me books - it feels like I'm sitting in my car chatting with my best friend.
I enjoyed each essay, but I wish the book itself was a little more tied together. The essay on confidence was great - work hard, know your shit, say your shit, have entitlement. I also agree, different connotation if a young girl asks why you have such confidence vs an old white dude asking.
I also love her essay on her soup snake BJ Novak and their shared stories. Also, her dating stories really related to the last book I listened to, Aziz Ansari's Modern Romance.
