This time we get a nice glimpse of the upcoming hero for Jewel to the East, Simon 'Sin' Singleton...and how he came to earn the nickname of Sin. His parents have had enough of Simon's carefree attitude about life and it forces Simon to earn his way if he wants to keep enjoying all the women in his life. When an opportunity comes his way to write advertisements for women, in essence poetry about lewd women, he thinks his luck is about to change! Ah, but then there is a lovely woman that he just has to have...and she needs a silk dress...and there goes his money in the blink of an eye. His soft heart for women is his biggest downfall as well as his greatest joy.
Guaranteed to make you giggle and smile, this is witty installment to the wonderful, detailed Georgian world that Victoria Vane has created. This glimpse of Simon as a younger lad and how he comes to be the man we will see later is well written and smart and will make you that more anxious for him to find his true love and settle down! I know I can not wait to see him fall :) If you are new to her writing, this works well as a stand alone but as this is just a prequel of what is to come, there is no romance or solid conclusion. I enjoyed seeing a bit more of the solid friendship between Ludovic and Ned and how all their antics together change their lives forever. Even though this is short, it is well written, well thought out and executed brilliantly. 4 stars

If you have not read Diana and Ludovic's story, do not start here as this will feel a bit out of place. Diana and Ludovic are newly married and expecting their first child within the month. Ludovic has been told to keep his hands off his wife (humor abounds here) but he does not tell Diana and Diana is worried he is up to his old, wild ways. She hopes to entice him back to the bedroom but he flees to London to attend to some unexpected business....business that Diana fears involves another woman. A confrontation ensures and the resulting passion is sure to make you blush.
I loved seeing a bit more into Diana and Ludovic's married life and this felt like an extra couple of chapters and I gobbled it up. I loved how it is smoking hot yet at the same time, very true to their natures and very tender and sweet. We get another glimpse of the characters who are coming up in the series and this was a great way to get a bit more back story on them. Fans of Victoria Vane will devour this story and have a happy grin on their face when they are done with it. I am a huge fan of Ms Vane and this is why. 4 1/2 stars

He knows his father had nothing to do with the South Sea scandal that resulted in the loss of so much money and believes he was used a cover for the real villain behind the loss. Now, with years of spy work under his belt, he is finally ready to confront the man he knows is the real culprit and is met with a bargain...pay up for the title. Having no money, Hadley sets about to find some and the wealthy Miss Mary Elizabeth Edwardes happens into his life. Drawn to her before he knows her true identity, he sees it as the answer to his dilemma but finds resistance in his step mother, the woman who has taken Mary under her wing and has her own plans for Mary. As the feelings grow between Hadley and Mary, Hadley must decide if he tells her the whole truth about his past and future plans or if he just tells her bits and pieces and hopes Mary does not find out the rest. . .
Victoria Vane has such a way with words that she just immerses you in the Georgian time period and makes you feel like you are right there. The attention to detail, both large and small, is wonderful and exactly what I have come to expect from her writing. I will admit, I had a hard time warming up to the scoundrel Hadley, but in the end I did feel like his feelings for Mary were genuine and will last. His journey to redemption is slow and just a bit wicked but that fit with his character. Mary also grew as the story unfolded from a country girl to a strong, smart woman. The way she deals with Hadley was well done and I am glad that she did not just bend to his every wish. The side characters, from Hadley's step mother to Mary's guardian, add a nice layer of wickedness and evilness but their ending seemed a little easy for me. Overall, another strong writing effort from the talents of Victoria Vane filled with rich, lush detail, wickedness, action, love and trust. 4 stars
Every devil has a beginning...and having read the previous DeVere titles by Victoria Vane there is no more charming of a devil than Ludovic, ViscountEvery devil has a beginning...and having read the previous DeVere titles by Victoria Vane there is no more charming of a devil than Ludovic, Viscount DeVere and in this short little tale we get a wonderful glimpse of what shaped Ludovic into the man he became. He is at school with his two friends, Ned and the newly introduced Simon, when his behavior gets them into trouble yet again. Thinking they will teach their teacher a lesson, Ludovic creates an idea that involves a lion...and is sure to make you laugh with the ridiculousness of it! Loved it. You get a nice sense of the bond these three friends have formed and I am very eager for Simon's own story now (Jewel of the East, Spring 2013). The story even delves into the scandalous history of Ludovic and his parents. His awful relationship with his father and his lack of a relationship with his mother who left him when he was a child. It really makes you appreciate and see how Ludovic came to his vices and way of life and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing this glimpse of the past.
You should note, as Ms Vane states, this is not a romance but there is some minor heated moments with the lion trainer. And even in this short tale, approximately 60 pages, you can see the attention to detail of the Georgian period that Ms Vane pours into her lovely writing. If you have never read anything by Victoria Vane, this is a great place to start as I guarantee you will be eager to see how Ludovic ends up with his happily ever after. And if you have read the previous stories, you will appreciate this glance into the mind of how the devil came to be...and even at this reckless age, you can see his compassion for others underneath the devil-may-care attitude. 4 stars

WThis final, delicious novella picks right up after The Virgin Huntress with Lady Diana confronting her former lover, the devil himself, Lord DeVere. With her goddaughter missing she knows that DeVere, her goddaughter godfather, surely had something to do with it and she walks into his den of pleasure and all the buried feelings between them, fire right back up. However as DeVere broke Diana's heart, she has no interest in letting him back into her life or her bed...no matter how she yearns to. Diana wants more from him and DeVere has a checkered past that he refuses to let continue on with him and refuses to marry and have an heir, so they seem to come to an impasse... until a wager gives Diana the idea to show DeVere some sensual tricks she has recently learned. Hoping to finally bring him to his knees, will he turn the tables on her and leave her shattered again or can this couple find long awaited happiness together?
Victoria Vane has written and delivered a delightful series and The Devil's Match is the perfect conclusion to this group (she did announce there is more to come next year!). There has been build up in the previous stories for what will happen between Diana and DeVere and I am so happy it ended so wonderfully! I wasn't sure about Diana in the beginning of the series but as she was revealed I really grew to like her and want her to have the happy ending she so deserved after a loveless marriage. As for the DeVere, underneath his rakish, devil may care attitude, is a strong heart that loves very deeply within a protective nature. He didn't have the best childhood and he wants to stay away from repeating the same mistakes. But when he realizes the truth of his heart, his promise to his brother holds his steadfast and almost costs him everything. I so loved seeing more real depth to DeVere and made his love for Diana all the more real for me. The added return of all the previous characters from the previous stories add a wonderful balance. If you have not read this series yet--what are you waiting for? It is filled with sizzling passion, heartbreak, humor and triumph and is a must read for all romance fans. A Devil's Match has all that written within the scrumptious Georgian setting and with Ms Vane's trademark eye for detail that make her stories come alive. I devoured this latest installment and am so excited she announced she is writing more in this series! 4 1/2 stars

It brings her spoiledness to the for front and she is even more anxious to get to London and debut and be a young woman in society. So when her Aunt Diana volunteers to take Vesta in her fathers place, Vesta is relieved. After all, her godfather, Viscount DeVere, will be available to help her in any matter, should that need arise. Upon riding early one morning, Vesta spots the man of her dreams and falls head over heels. When it becomes know that this is her godfathers brother, she is ecstatic....only to become jealous of the attention he is paying her aunt! Calling upon her godfather to help pull off a lavish undertaking to secure the heart of the dashing Captain Hewett DeVere, Hew does not stand a chance against Vesta.
The novella was pure fun! Vesta was spoiled and childish at times but when she set her heart on something, she did whatever it took to secure it--even if it meant taking a drastic measure that will leave you going 'she didn't!' And Hew turned out to be a delicious man with a surprise that made me love him all the more. Falling for Vesta was not in his plans but when he does, he falls hard and gives her his whole heart in the most beautiful way! Sigh. As two polar opposites, Hew with his strength and steadfastness and Vesta with her petulant and impulsive nature, these two were sure to combust together and they certainly did! Victoria Vane once again drew me into the Georgian time period with wonderful details to dialect, mannerism and surroundings. Being a novella, I always want more and in this case I did as well. I would have loved seeing Vesta and Hew butt heads longer but it still worked well with the length. This novella made me laugh, sigh and spend a couple delicious hours away from reality to end with a smile on my face! Highly recommended for fans of enjoyable, sexy, emotional, fell good stories! I can not wait for more in this series! 4 1/2 stars

Lady Diana has resigned herself to her loveless, unhappy marriage with her gamble happy husband but even she is unaware how deep the debt has gotten aLady Diana has resigned herself to her loveless, unhappy marriage with her gamble happy husband but even she is unaware how deep the debt has gotten and is shocked to learn they are about to be ruined. It becomes worse when she becomes aware who has bought up the vowels--the man that makes her blood race in the most inappropriate ways, the devilish Viscount Ludovic DeVere. Upon their first meeting the attraction just zings but Diana is a proper lady and refuses to break her marriage vows. But with DeVere sending her smoldering glances and whisper soft touches, it does not take long for her defenses to crumble. But they truly break down when one last shocking act of betrayal from husband sets her free. Just as this passionate couple find a moment of bliss together, life throws a most damaging curveball that forces Diana and DeVere to part on bad terms with no hopes for a reconciliation in the future. . .
Oh, my! If you have read the previous novellas (A Wild Night's Bride and The Virgin Huntress) you have just sensed the tension boiling between Diana and DeVere and I loved how this novella goes back a few years and shows the whole history and what happened to have such apparent loathing, especially on Diana's part. All Diana longed for was happiness and she got the short end of the stick with her husband and his unappreciated actions in the bedroom. Diana has never known true desire and DeVere awakens that in her and she thinks she can finally be happy--even if it means being on the outskirts of the ton. But Diana is unaware of the turmoil that DeVere also faces in his personal life and he does what he thinks is best to protect her, even if it costs him the first true peace he has felt. DeVere is wickedly charming, dashing and sexy and certainly knows how to make Diana appreciate the finer acts in the bedroom and is the perfect man to awaken all her senses. Even though I didn't like seeing him with his mistress, it added to his nature he portrays and it also made me appreciate him a bit more for his sacrifice for Diana's happiness. With this delicious yet sad background story having been told now, I am so eager to see how Victoria Vane delivers a happily-ever-after for this couple! Once again, the Georgian writing and attention to detail is fabulous and the humor and heat is high but I enjoyed the added bit on angst this story brought. This novella is guaranteed to make your toes curl and your heart sigh with romance and sadness and I am eager to see how this fabulous series finish's out! 4 1/2 stars

Phoebe Scott dreams of being an actress and when one night she is finally given some lines, she is pleased. She knows it can be the start but wishes it was something different than the tart Kitty Willis. She acts the part perfectly and attracts the attention of some men and somehow finds herself attending a bawdy party in hopes of securing a protector. While there she is drawn to Ned and is stunned to find herself drawn into an outrageous bet that involves her, Viscount Ludovic DeVere, the prince and the King of England's bed. This all to the chagrin of Sir Edward Chambers who is most attracted to her as well, especially after three years of celibacy following his wife's death. Ned is determined to protect her and hijinks ensure! What follows is a delightfully fun romp that will have you laughing and then cranking up the fan at a few places!
I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a well written novella that features two 'common' people that have sparks to spare! The writing was excellent and made me feel like I was immersed in the Georgian time period. It is fun, sexy and has heart to it. We get a few glimpses into the upcoming books in this series and I am so eager to read them! A very delightful, smoldering, delicious 4 1/2 stars
