Plus I want to know what exactly is a Frindle.
My Review & thoughts Nicholas 'Nick' Allen has alot of ideas, most of them is to avoid getting homework from his teachers. Come to fifth grade where he finally meets his match, Mrs. Granger, who can't be budge from her intentions of giving them homework and assignments.
Sprouting an idea, Nick decided to test the waters on word play, unintentionally fuel by Mrs. Granger. He started calling pens 'Frindle'. He got his close friends to join him on this particular task. Mrs. Granger doesn't seem to like the idea, and decided to challenge him. The word however has a life of it's own. Much later, Frindle run all over the town,. Nick has no power to stop it in any other way. His experiment was a success but it brought him trouble.
This is a great story for anybody would would like humor and sort of a challenge. Nick definitely promotes great ideas to improve life and actually find ways to make it work. That would give out any encouragement for anybody that good ideas, if initiate properly, with good planning, and of course with long thoughts would end up as a success!
I would love to see this book add up as a reading requirement for any reading list for any schools. It is fun, I actually laugh out loud at some parts and of course, motivate anybody who read it.(less)

Short Review This is a quick read about a housewife, giving her night owl worker husband a wonderful naughty surprise. It has been awhile and Tara got lonely, being left alone as her husband developed a taste for being a workaholic. Tara worked out her nerves and get through with her plan to surprise Jared, left alone for 2 hours in his office. Jared welcomed the surprise wonderfully and of course.. they had his short break well spent.
Being just married for 4 years with this "plot" bugs me, I rather hope for them involved in this dilemma to have way longer than just 4 years. But that of course my complaint. Otherwise, this book is such a hot read. and I like it.(less)

I was on the roll, reading through this series, so I have no problem in picking it up soon after I've finished the 8th installment.
My Thoughts ♠♠♠♠♠ This has been quite a read for me. It is full with twists and surprises, and if I say out any of it here, it will spoil it for you avid Cirque Du Freak readers out there! But let's see, if I can do this one right without spilling any shall I?
We of course now knows, Hooky the Vampaneze is RV "my hands! My hands!" sorry that just part is just funny. We also know the Vampaneze have Vampets to do their errands for them. And of course, now Darren, Mr Crespley, Harkat and Vancha are most wanted by the human authorities. Now since that has been added to their troubles, we also know Steve Leopard is back (and yes!) runs an evil plan! with the Vampaneze! Ok what you don't know is, this book is full of pack thrillers and adventures that would push you to the end of your seat. I can't spill! I can't spill! I can't spill! You have to read it! Oh yead they found Debbie and the police chief is now on their side.
There's trouble in air. There's sorrow in the air! One of them... will died :(
Librarian Muse Honestly.. I still say they should include this series in a full set in any school or library, if they are getting one or 2 of these. Seriously! This will pull readers out! (less)

Much of the excitment of his trials the matter if the vampaneze isn't out if mind yet.
This is a very fast pace book. Darren brought us into his world and experience his trials with him, feeling his pain and joy as he experience his new life as a half vampire. Personally this has become one of my favorite series. I actually smiled when I saw a student checked out this book in my library. But all I could thnk of is, have they read the books prior to this one, since this isn't a stand alone book within the series, I seriously suggest. Reading it from the first one.(less)

Why exactly I picked out this book? The last book was hanging at the end, and my hands are just itchy to read the next one immediately, hence the immediate book after the last one. Darren Shan has the nick to leave you hanging on the last book so you will pick out the next one in the series.
My 2 ¢ Ok. I am not going to repeat the back story of Darren being turn into a half-vampire to save his best friend's life and had fabricated his death to the world of the living. Became a vampire's assistant to Mr. Crepsley and how he became best friends with a snake-boy, living in Cirque Du Freak.
Wait.. I just did that whole background thing, didn't I? *purses lips*
So.. new book, but related storyline to prior book in the series. Mr. Crepsley had to go to his hometown suddenly, and bring along Darren and Evra (the snake-boy, if you must know). This would give both of the boys the chance to have "just being boys" days while Mr. Crepsley sleeps during the day. Oh yeah.. Darren got himself a girlfriend in this book, and her name is Debbie Hemlock, who loves to know Darren is bit strange and Evra a bit special. Instead of screaming away, she and Darren became close through out the book. Evra, one night, saw a suspicious horrifying news in the news about dead bodies piling up, and drained of blood. He told Darren about it, and they went all Sherlock Holmes about it, suspecting Mr. Crepsley immediately. Darren just thing, this is a chance to kill Mr. Crepsley.
This is a very fast pace book. I just couldn't put it down period. I just have to read it in any chance I get, even if it's just 5 seconds to spare! The plots are full of suspense and some are just heart warming. Of course in the end, Darren left me hanging and I just have to immediately pick up the next book! ACK! Don't get me wrong though, that just means it's a good read!
Librarian Muse Word of advice. Get this book! But if you do, make sure, you get the prior books before this one because it would actually confuse your patrons, when they read it. It's either that, or you get that old... "Where's the book before this one?" conversation. The problem is, this book actually connects to each other, and there's no stand alone so far, since I've been reading this. (less)

Why exactly I picked out this book? The movie made me curious. Plus it has been awhile since I read any vampire genre. I was sick of the genre for a while (can you blame me? there's glittering vampires now!) until I'd picked out the first book from this series. It revive my love for the genre itself, and I tend to read this like an addiction. Hey, just look at the cover, that pulled me in right away, plus this is one of the most checked out books we have at school.
My 2 ¢ Book cover. That reminds me of that one scene from the old Dracula movie pose. Except the fact it's green...and scaly.
Darren Shan is a half vampire and he is also the assistant to Mr. Crepsley, the ever so impatient and sometimes bossy vampire. Darren is going through angst in this book. Mr. Crepsley decided to bring Darren to Cirque Du Freak so he could have companions of around his age, so he could at least have a social life.
The plots and storyline in this book, like the first one, really is a fast page turner for me. I really couldn't put it down. What i see so clearly, is the fact the movie is really different from this book. Remember the monkey girl Darren likes in the movie, she's virtually absent from this book. I'm actually disappointed by it really, because that actually one of the reason, I sometimes prefer watching the movie first rather than read, cause I've enough experiences on being disappointed due to the major differences between the two medias.
Which one do I prefer? I like the book much better, but the movie has it's own attraction. I guess it depends on what individual wants though.
Librarian Muse Inclusion of this series in teens library is a good way to promote your library. for any young readers. Having a movie about this book helps in promoting the book itself for the young patrons. For the library which cater DVD's, I suggest in gettign the DVD as well. This would ignite discussions about the difference of the two different medias in their class. (less)

I have avoided this series for a while now, since I thought I have had read one way too many vampire series. Honestly, it took a while after the movie came out too, but I can't stand seeing it there.. telling me to pull it out.. read it especially when I have been rewatching the movie like crazy - out of boredom *yes*
My first reaction? Yes Sir! I was disappointed to see the movie was kinda off from the book itself. But I must say one thing. I love the book! Regardless this series kinda start off a bit um.. weird for me, but it has been quite an experience. What I must mention here is, I have read 6 books from this series before I actually started writing this first review of it. I can say one thing, the book itself is NOT a stand alone book from the series, it depended on each other, because after a couple of books, Darren stop explaining who is who, what is what, which is which. You would be lost at what's going on. So I suggest any readers interested in this series should start from the first book.
What you can expect is... friendship gone astray, betrayal; yes, of course a circus featuring "Cirque Du Freak", Snake boy, beard lady. and then some. It started like any other normal story.. a boy with his friends, then boy sneak out with best friend to a Cirque Du Freak. More sneaking around. Then stealing. then close to death experience, and then broke up a friendship... and of course death by a deadly spider!
But that's not the end.. that's the beginning of everything. Darren Shan, died so he could live (reluctantly) as the creature of the night as a Vampire's Assistant to Mr. Crepsley. Darren Shan thought he could live his life as a half-vampire like a normal kid. But when Darren fell out when his best friend was just heartbreaking to read. Especially when his best friend was said to have bad blood by Mr. Crepsley!
It is a fast read for me, and I ended up wanting to read the next book as soon as I finished this one. I found myself so wrapped up, there are points I actually gasped at the horror of what's happening, of course there are some scenes, that would caught me by surprise that left me in dismay. Humor isn't left out from this particular book. I found myself so pulled in into the story I can't help reading it where wherever, and whenever I could! Yes, I am that kind of book worm. I actually enjoy reading it!
░▒▓ Librarian Muse ▓▒░ This has been one of the most wanted series in the library I'm working at, so I guess it would be a good addition as any school library there it, who students are very keen into the Horror Genre. But I must warn you librarians out there, this is one series, you can't get without getting at least the prior books if you're set into getting one of this books in the middle of the series. (less)

This is a story of a family, who has to endure a life change as a comet crashed onto the moon, which, in horror, brought it closer to Earth. This is Miranda's diary of her day to day account, along with her family. Her hardship with them, her frustrations, the changes she, her family and the rest of the people she knew have to endure. The plots, scenes and the characters within this book is so absorbing, I ended up drowning in deep enough, that when I look up, I actually thought, "Oh good, Electricity back on for today." and I spent a while to get oriented back into the real world.
Why exactly I picked out this book? The big, humongous moon, on the cover kinda entice me. Then, the book description pulls me in and I thought, "Hey, why not." Post-apocalyptic.. ohh yeaahhhh
Librarian Muse Yes, I would love to have this one in my library. It would interest any sort of students, who loves science-fiction. I would certainly recommend it to be a "Readers Set" for Year 9 (Secondary 3) up(less)

This book isn't the type of novel you should rush through. Regardless, the fact it is wrong in some places, like the part where Arthur Golden mentioned about the "mizuage", the book pulled you in like a few other books could do. Plus it took me a while to actually pick up this book and I must admit I did watch the movie first, then read it, cause I don't want to be disappointed with the movie. The book itself is way better than the movie.
The book centers on a first view perspective of a geisha named, Nitta Saiyuri, who was born with the name Chiyo. Originally daughter of a fisherman from small fishing village of Yoroido, Chiyo and her sister, Satsu; was sold off to Kyoto, one to an Okiya and another off to a brothel. Chiyo's early life in Gion was pretty much mostly hellish due to Hatsumomo (初桃), because she saw Chiyo's potential of being a successful geisha. There she befriends another of a girl around her age nicknamed Pumpkin (おカボ). In the okiya she also met Mrs. Nitta, or "Mother", and Granny, the mistresses of the okiya, then there's also Auntie.
One day, she met a man that would change her point of life, the Chairman, and another geisha named Mameha (豆葉), who in fact is Hatsumomo's rival in Gion, who would trained Chiyo into a very popular geisha. Chiyo became Saiyuri and search for the man who leads her into becoming a geisha. Then time really came and they met, but Saiyuri doesn't seem to get the opportunity to get his attention quite the way she wanted.(less)

However, after seeing the dark and gothic building complete with a bat tower, they renamed it “Chillsville Elementary”. Meeting their new classmates and the school staff, they realize things in their new school are way out of the ordinary. With names as Frank N. Stein, Eve Bloodworthy, Bobby Odor and Ms Wolf, it surely brings out the spookiness even more. They have a pet spider as a school pet and their teacher Ms Wolf has red marks on her arms looks like vampire bites, who also frequently sneaking up food to the forbidden attic tower. Even more intriguing, the lights which keep going on and off in the tower when night falls when nobody was supposed to be there.
This is quite a quick read for anybody enjoys none time consuming books. I would recommend this to any teens or children who wouldn’t have the nerve to pick up to pick up a book because they do not enjoy reading. The book has the element of mystery and humor in it as well as a real page turner even for me. The plot would pull any readers in the instance. The adventure is fast page and the end would surely surprise you. (less)

Mr Poe, their financial caretaker until Violet finally come to an age to the Baudelaire's fortune, have arranged them to attend Prufrock Preparatory School to further their studies.
The thought of being able to attend Prufrock Preparatory School would normally be ecstatic for the kids but upon their arrival, their miseries seems to be endless. They have an annoying Vice Principal Nero who are pretty irked off kids and insisted on every student to obey ridiculous rules that result with more ridiculous consequences if anybody would break it. Mandotary attendance to his 6 hour nightly recital was another thorn in their lives as he wasn't that good either. Instead of living in a comfortable living quarters, they are assigned to an uncomfortable shack with crabs and mosses, where Nero would call the Orphan Shack.
But in the midst of attending such an austere facility, they have a spark of hope when they meet Duncan & Isadora Quagmire, another set of orphans in the school, they new kind friends.
Of course that part of relieve isn't that comfortable enough, when they have to attend classes that teaches them nonsense syllabus and Count Olaf is in the corner, in the disguise of being a gym teacher called Genghis, and this time acted in such a way that would really take them off guard.
I love reading this installment since the author has finally cut out with chase of reintroducing the readers to the background of the Baudelaire Orphans, which of course gives new readers no good reason to skip the earlier installment o the series.(less)

The second when she arrived, things feel "normal" again for Kaoru and when they arrived back to his apartment they had the shock of his life. He was robbed! Well actually, no. Turned out Miyabi-san moved all of his things to their new home.
Miyabi-san would be patroning their (well Kaoru's especially) every move and she eye his every mistakes for the chance to him lectures. There's a couple of new characters in this volume who join in living with them, Tina (an American girl with a perverted sense of humor) and Taeko (Kaoru's geeky friend who cleans the house on hire by Miyabi-san - after she got herself fired from the other job)
Kaoru and Aoi gets to know each other more and the attraction between them are obvious - other than the obvious illustration of adult humor portray. but of course living with company means, people barging into the room when they were just getting into the moment.
This volume is full with beautiful artwork drawings equip with great adult humor dialog and adult scenes. Great plot and awesome read. I've really enjoyed this one.(less)

She was on her way to her old hometown to start a new life but somehow got stuck in the cold. A familiar face in the name of Michael Wulf, one of the known available rich bachelor in the country, came to rescue her from the harsh snow.
Shortly after, Isabella gave birth to her daughter, Emily, and that unexpectedly change Michael's routine as they were stuck together in his mansion in an amount of time due to the sudden storm that have gotten worse. Due to their, especially his, past; they tried to live with each other and bear each other's company. Overtime, their herats tugged for each other but Michael fought it off, trying to push her away for Isablella and Emily's own good.
This is good quickie for me. The characters interacted with each other well, emotionally tugging. The plots actually pulled you in. I've enjoyed reading this one and I'm not into reading romances either.(less)
